My Cultivate Garden Essay
Once upon a time a famous philosopher, by the name of, Soren Kierkegaard said “Life
can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.” This means we have no idea
what we are doing throughout our lives and that we are only guessing when we think of our

future. But as much as this saying makes sense, I think that it is best to go into life with a plan
and an attitude to overcome any challenges that come in your way of reaching your ideas and
dreams of the future. This is a story of my plans to achieve the ideas and dreams for my future. It
is what I want to do in my life and what I think I can succeed in life while doing.
Chapter 1
My Future Career
Everybody needs a job. It’s how you
pay for your food, clothes, and nearly
anything that you want to do. But the trick is
finding a job that you would enjoy doing,
after all what is the point of having a job if
you don’t want to even do it? The answer is
that there is no point in getting a job you
don’t enjoy. Now ever since I was a kid, I
enjoyed building things that could be made
in the future, for example a flying car, a
floating train, etc. This got me thinking, how
I could get these things that I like into my
future career and workplace. Well there is a
job that does exactly that it is called being a
Design Engineer. They literally design,
build, and test new products. It can be
anything as simple as a new iPhone or a new
car, to something as crazy as a flying car or
a floating train.
To become a Design Engineer you
must earn a Bachelor's degree in any major
branch of engineering, such as mechanical,
electrical, civil, or computer engineering.
This is because there is no specific “Design
Engineer Degree” offered at universities. I
plan to major in Mechanical Engineering so
if my plan to become a Design Engineer
fails I can become a Mechanical engineer,
which has a rapidly increasing amount of
jobs opening in the field every year.
(“Career Profiler”)
My main plan is to attend UC Davis
as it is one of the best Engineering Colleges
in the Country. But going to College is not
the only thing you need to land a job on your
feet. If you have, on average, about 4 years
of previous work experience then it helps
you a lot in getting a Design Engineering
Job straight away. Companies also look for
key skills, the main are creativity, listening
skills, and problem solving skills. (“How to
Become a Design Engineer”) Another

attractive characteristic that companies look
for are the ability to use industry-specific
software and familiarity with related tools as
the ones you are working with. Now this
may seem as a lot of things that you need to
become a Design Engineer but every
journey starts with the first step.
My plan is to start with acing my
high school courses and continue taking
honors and AP classes throughout High
School. I even have made specific steps to
achieve these goals. For example, I plan to
get a good grade in my Math class so I can
get recommended for Algebra 2 Honors,
then I can also take Chemistry Honors.
During those four years of High School I
plan to have a job at Raley's as a bagger to
pay for my car and save up to help pay for
college tuition.
After all this, I plan to attend UC
Davis and major in Mechanical Engineering.
Once I do that I plan to get a small job as a
Design Engineer and eventually move up in
the world and work at Intel. In conclusion,
this may seem like a lot of work that I have
to do to reach my dreams, but I know that if
I work hard, anything is possible.
Chapter 2
My Geographic Home
One of the pros of having a job is
that you can buy a house. A home is
important to me for many reasons. One
reason why a home is important is because a

home is a place for family, it also provides
shelter. It’s hard to even imagine life
without a home. Home is a place of safety,
and a place where you can share your
feelings with your family. A home is where
you experience growing up and make all
your memories. A home protects you from
the rain, and keeps you warm on a cold day.
Without a home there is no place to go after
a long day. There is no place to feel safe and
secure.
As L. Frank Baum said in The
Wizard of Oz, “If I ever go looking for my
heart’s desire again, I won’t look farther
than my own back yard. Because if it isn’t
there, I never really lost it to begin with."
This quote means that we all need a home, a
home is a very important part of everyone’s
lives, and that our home should be
everything that our heart desires. Even
children dream of great, gigantic houses that
stretch as far as the eye can see. Even one of
my own childhood dreams was to have a
giant mansion near the beach.
Now my dream is to live in Malibu,
California. The area just calls to me. All the
houses there are quite large and Malibu is
right next to the ocean. Another great option
is to live in San Jose, California. It also has
lots of beaches and there are many jobs there
that fit my future job description. I picked
these two locations for those exact reasons,
beaches and job opportunities. Nobody
wants to live in a place where they don't
enjoy it. As I said before, a home is a place
to escape bad weather, a place for love, a
place to escape the world, and most
importantly, a place for family.
Chapter 3
My Future Family
I believe that family is a very
important part of everybody's lives. Since
family is so important, it is also crucial to
make plans so that you will have the best
family life possible. Now to do this you
would have to make plans for many separate
things. First of all I would need to meet
somebody that I can live with. Somebody
that shares many ideas with me and is
around the same age as me. I also need to
consider at what age I would get married.
For example, I do not plan on getting
Cultivate Garden Essay
Word Count 2,595

married at 18, nor at 50. I also need an idea
on how many kids I would like to have. In a
perfect world i would have two or three kids
that get along with each other very well with
each other. I want to have my family get
along with each other.
To find someone that I can live with
or someone I can get along with I need to
find someone that I share ideas or values
with. My plan is to find someone with
similar interests as me. An easy way to do
this is to meet someone while doing
something that you like to do. This way you
already know that they share a common
interest, as they are doing the same thing as
you. Another plan is not to get married all of
a sudden. I want to date this person for a
while so I really know the person that I am
committing the rest of my life to.
After getting married I would like to
travel with my family. Of course this takes
money so I do not plan to have kids before I
am out of college. But I do not want to have
kids too late either.
I think the best time to have kids is
probably when you are about 28, and as I
mentioned before, I do not want too many
kids either. I also plan to spend a lot of time
with my immediate family. I would like to
do extra-curricular activities with my kids,
especially sports. So as you can see, family
is a very important part of everyone's lives,
and by making plans for my future family, I
can make sure my family will be the best it
possibly can be.
Chapter 4
Travel
To make my life interesting, I plan to
travel to many new and exciting places. I
have always enjoyed travelling, whether it
was with my family, or my classmates on a
school trip. In order to travel I will have to
make many decisions about where to travel,
know how much it will cost to travel there
and how much money I will need to stay
there.
Cultivate Garden Essay
Word Count 2,595
Jesse Balter
9
To make these decisions in the
future, there are plenty of steps I can take
now. For example, I can make a list of
places I have previously visited and would
like to visit again, or list places I want to
visit in the future. My list already includes
Hawaii, New York City, England, Venice,
Southern California, and the Caribbean.
There are many reasons I want to travel to
these places. For example, Hawaii. I have
already been there and it was a great trip.
There are many beautiful waterfalls, ponds,
and lakes. There are also many mountains,
and I also have a uncle who lives there.
To learn about more places I can
read in travel books about different places
around the world. Research on the internet
can also help me a lot when picking a place
to travel to, or to stay. I will also talk to my
friends about where they went and see if that
place would be a good place that I would
like to visit. I also could subscribe to a travel
magazine to learn as much as I can about
places to visit.
To find out the cost of my travel
plans and how to book a flight, I can search
many websites to see which options are
cheaper and more reliable. I could also talk
to nearby travel agents and find out the cost
of the trip.
To make sure I have enough money
for travelling I plan to open a separate
saving account that I can save up money to
take a trip. This way I can easily save up and
not have to worry about where my money is.
I could even start now and put gift money
and allowance from my referee job into a
savings account. Also when I travel I will
make sure not to spend over the amount of
money that I have put aside for the specific
trip.
So all in all, making these decisions
about where I want to travel, know the cost
of the trip, and having the money that I
would need is an important first step to
travelling as an adult.
Chapter 5
My Health
Another very important part of
someone's life is their own person health and
the health of their family. Maintaining my
own health is a very high priority, and I will
do many things to keep healthy. Just some
of these things are eating right, exercising,
and to get regular medical attention.
Eating right is probably one of the
most important things you should do to keep
healthy. And there are so many ways to eat
Cultivate Garden Essay
Word Count 2,595
Jesse Balter

healthy. For example, simply knowing what
is in the food you eat is the first step. Having
someone home cook a meal at least once a
day is a great way to stay healthy. You see,
in my family we always have a healthy
breakfast, usually cereal (but my mother
doesn't allow unhealthy cereals such as
lucky charms, fruity loops, etc.). Then at
lunch I have a packed lunch full of healthy
things and it always includes a homemade
sandwich of some sort. My mom
even makes homemade bread
and jelly to make peanut butter
and jelly sandwiches. And then
finally, my entire family sits down together
to have a homemade, healthy dinner. I
expect this healthy lifestyle to continue on in
my future and for my children to grow up
used to eating healthy so they eat healthy in
their futures too.
Exercise is another important factor
in keeping yourself healthy. As of now I
play soccer and practice 3 times a week,
plus a separate training. I then exercise by
myself on two of the remaining days that I
don't have soccer training on. On the last
day of the week I have a rest/stretch day
when I stretch and rest my muscles from a
hard weeks work. I plan to continue to keep
myself in good shape throughout the rest of
my life. I can do this by doing activities such
as hiking or running as an adult. And as I
said before I could also join a adult soccer
league. I enjoy having an active lifestyle,
and I plan to keep that lifestyle throughout
the remaining years of my life.
Finally, getting regular medical care
is another great way to keep yourself healthy
and avoid diseases. Just a simple check-up
once or twice a year is a great way to keep
your body as healthy as it possibly can be.
And of course, I will pay attention to my
body and if I notice anything different I will
go to the doctor as soon as I can possibly
and get it checked out. I will also follow the
medical advice given to me by my doctors.
To sum it up, I want to be a healthy
person for the rest of my life. I will do this
by eating healthy, exercising regularly, and
seeing my doctor at least once a year.
Thank you for reading this
exasperatingly long novella about my life
now, and what I want my life to be in the
future, and how I can achieve my dreams
and get my dream life to actually come true.

Another great option is to live in San Jose, California. It also has lots of beaches and there are many jobs there that fit my future job description. I picked these two locations for those exact reasons, beaches and job opportunities. Nobody wants to live in a place where they don't enjoy it. As I said before, a home is a place to escape bad weather, a place for love, a place to escape the world, and most importantly, a place for family. Chapter 3 My Future Family I believe that family is a very important part of everybody's lives. Since family is so important, it is also crucial to make plans so that you will have the best family life possible. Now to do this you would have to make plans for many separate things. First of all I would need to meet somebody that I can live with. Somebody that shares many ideas with me and is around the same age as me. I also need to consider at what age I would get married. For example, I do not plan on getting

In a perfect world i would have two or three kids that get along with each other very well with each other. I want to have my family get along with each other. To find someone that I can live with or someone I can get along with I need to find someone that I share ideas or values with. My plan is to find someone with similar interests as me. An easy way to do this is to meet someone while doing something that you like to do. This way you already know that they share a common interest, as they are doing the same thing as you. Another plan is not to get married all of a sudden. I want to date this person for a while so I really know the person that I am committing the rest of my life to. After getting married I would like to travel with my family. Of course this takes money so I do not plan to have kids before I am out of college. But I do not want to have kids too late either. I think the best time to have kids is probably when you are about 28, and as I mentioned before, I do not want too many kids either. I also plan to spend a lot of time with my immediate family. I would like to do extra-curricular activities with my kids, especially sports. So as you can see, family is a very important part of everyone's lives, and by making plans for my future family, I can make sure my family will be the best it possibly can be. Chapter 4 Travel To make my life interesting, I plan to travel to many new and exciting places. I have always enjoyed travelling, whether it was with my family, or my classmates on a school trip. In order to travel I will have to make many decisions about where to travel, know how much it will cost to travel there and how much money I will need to stay there.
  • 9. Cultivate Garden Essay Word Count 2,595 Jesse Balter 9 To make these decisions in the future, there are plenty of steps I can take now. For example, I can make a list of places I have previously visited and would like to visit again, or list places I want to visit in the future. My list already includes Hawaii, New York City, England, Venice, Southern California, and the Caribbean. There are many reasons I want to travel to these places. For example, Hawaii. I have already been there and it was a great trip. There are many beautiful waterfalls, ponds, and lakes. There are also many mountains, and I also have a uncle who lives there. To learn about more places I can read in travel books about different places around the world. Research on the internet can also help me a lot when picking a place to travel to, or to stay. I will also talk to my friends about where they went and see if that place would be a good place that I would like to visit. I also could subscribe to a travel magazine to learn as much as I can about places to visit. To find out the cost of my travel plans and how to book a flight, I can search many websites to see which options are cheaper and more reliable. I could also talk to nearby travel agents and find out the cost of the trip. To make sure I have enough money for travelling I plan to open a separate saving account that I can save up money to take a trip. This way I can easily save up and not have to worry about where my money is. I could even start now and put gift money and allowance from my referee job into a savings account. Also when I travel I will make sure not to spend over the amount of money that I have put aside for the specific trip. So all in all, making these decisions about where I want to travel, know the cost of the trip, and having the money that I would need is an important first step to travelling as an adult. Chapter 5 My Health Another very important part of someone's life is their own person health and the health of their family. Maintaining my own health is a very high priority, and I will do many things to keep healthy. Just some of these things are eating right, exercising, and to get regular medical attention. Eating right is probably one of the most important things you should do to keep healthy. And there are so many ways to eat

Having someone home cook a meal at least once a day is a great way to stay healthy. You see, in my family we always have a healthy breakfast, usually cereal (but my mother doesn't allow unhealthy cereals such as lucky charms, fruity loops, etc.). Then at lunch I have a packed lunch full of healthy things and it always includes a homemade sandwich of some sort. My mom even makes homemade bread and jelly to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And then finally, my entire family sits down together to have a homemade, healthy dinner. I expect this healthy lifestyle to continue on in my future and for my children to grow up used to eating healthy so they eat healthy in their futures too. Exercise is another important factor in keeping yourself healthy. As of now I play soccer and practice 3 times a week, plus a separate training. I then exercise by myself on two of the remaining days that I don't have soccer training on. On the last day of the week I have a rest/stretch day when I stretch and rest my muscles from a hard weeks work. I plan to continue to keep myself in good shape throughout the rest of my life. I can do this by doing activities such as hiking or running as an adult. And as I said before I could also join a adult soccer league. I enjoy having an active lifestyle, and I plan to keep that lifestyle throughout the remaining years of my life. Finally, getting regular medical care is another great way to keep yourself healthy and avoid diseases. Just a simple check-up once or twice a year is a great way to keep your body as healthy as it possibly can be. And of course, I will pay attention to my body and if I notice anything different I will go to the doctor as soon as I can possibly and get it checked out. I will also follow the medical advice given to me by my doctors. To sum it up, I want to be a healthy person for the rest of my life. I will do this by eating healthy, exercising regularly, and seeing my doctor at least once a year. Thank you for reading this exasperatingly long novella about my life now, and what I want my life to be in the future, and how I can achieve my dreams and get my dream life to actually come true.
