This document provides an overview of the batik technique, including that it involves applying wax in a pattern on fabric before dyeing, which resists the dye and allows different colors to show through in the pattern. It explains that batik originated in Java and involves multiple steps of waxing, dyeing, and removing wax to create complex patterns using several colors. It notes that batik is recognized as an important cultural heritage by the UNESCO, with October 2nd designated as Batik's Day.

To make a batik, selected areas of the cloth are blocked out by brushing or drawing hot wax over them, and the cloth is then dyed. The parts covered in wax resist the dye and remain the original colour. This process of waxing and dyeing can be repeated to create more elaborate and colourful designs. After the final dyeing the wax is removed and the cloth is ready for wearing or showing.
type of dyeing which is used in Batik is called a wax resist. This technique in fabric is an ancient art form. This type of art has been discovered to trace all the way back to Egypt in the 4th century BC. Then is was used to wrap mummies, linen was soaked in wax, and scratched using a sharp tool.
