HOT & DRY DESERT

Locations of Hot & Dry Deserts
   Cover about one fifth of the Earth’s land
    surface
   Most are near the Tropic of Cancer or the
    Tropic of Capricorn
   Such as the Kalahari Desert in South Africa,
    Sahara Desert in North Africa, the Arabian
    Desert in the Arabian Peninsula, and the Great
    Sandy Desert in Australia.
Climate
   Temperatures range from 20°C to 25°C
   The extreme maximum temperature ranges
    from 43.5°C to 49°C
   They usually have very little rainfall and
    concentrated rainfall in short periods between
    long rainless periods (average = 15cm per
    year)
   Warm throughout the fall and spring seasons
   Hot during the summer
   Winters usually have very little if any rainfall
