2. 2017 was a year of change for our organization. It was
amazing, challenging, and set THELMA on the right
path for growth.
One of the biggest changes
in 2017 was a change in
leadership. We said
goodbye in July to
long-time executive
director Kevin Miller.
Miller was instrumental in
the expansion and
rebranding of our
organization. I accepted the
position as the next
executive director officially in November with
strategic goals in mind for fundraising, arts education,
and community focus.
There were many accomplishments to celebrate in 2017
including 11 Thursdays of Summer. We saw a 51% in-
crease in attendance during those free concerts and had
to ask the City of Fond du Lac to permit us to close the
street every week. We have already received approval
for street closures for this upcoming summer and we’ve
got great plans to provide even more fun!
We added Studio 51, an arts class geared toward kids
and families that focuses on a different art form every
week. Painting, clay sculpting, music, acting, African
drumming have all been a part of the curriculum. And
thanks to a grant from the Oberreich Foundation, we
will be able to continue this program into 2018!
We also celebrated 20 years of the Fond du Lac
Children’s Chorale, THELMA’s resident ensemble, with a
street concert in 2017! That was truly a special moment
witnessing Chorale alumni join in the performance.
I am truly privileged to be part of THELMA and honored
to be its executive director. I have high hopes for our
future, especially when I look at our staff, our
volunteers, our members, our board and committees,
our donors, and the amazing community we serve.
This is going to fun!
Dear Friends,
Sometimes you just know. Having been involved at
some level or the other with our arts center since 2005
I can confidently say that the lessons we have learned
through the years have positioned THELMA’s future to
be brighter than ever before. The arrows all point north.
Staff is experienced and stable; finances
although always challenging,
are promising and program-
ming is creative and stimulat-
ing. Most important, attend-
ance at THELMA events has
soared.
Throughout 2018 the board
of directors will be updating
THELMA’s strategic plan that
has been in place since late
2015. That plan has served us well. Substantial progress
has been made in these five targeted areas:
a. Make full use of THELMA facilities.
b. Make THELMA financially viable.
c. Keep THELMA’s membership robust and
diversified.
d. Gain the community’s acceptance and
increase participation in THELMA
activities.
e. Maintain appropriate staffing, both paid and
volunteer.
Elsewhere in this report you will see data that reflects
progress. There is, of course, work to be done. We
know for sure that Fond du Lac is a more attractive
place to live and work because of THELMA’s presence.
Quality of life is a huge driver in measuring a
community’s appeal. A thriving THELMA is indisputably
a major plus in making Fond du Lac pop out of the pack
in a competitive economy. We are grateful for your
continued giving of your time, your talent and your
treasure as we look forward to an exciting and fulfilling
2018.
Warm Regards,
From the

*Administrative
Breakdown
Historically the financial message has been about organizational infancy,
operations and sustainability. The financial gains and results were measured in
single digits. THELMA’s financial message for 2017 is a proud statement about
accomplishments.
Emphasis on the strategic goal of visibility created increased attendance for every
major programing or fund raising event, which resulted in a 22% increase in
overall operational revenues, exclusive of donations. THELMA responded to these
operational needs by increasing costs primarily in labor and facilities. In summary,
an operational break even and an overall profit.
With stability in operations, we raised our 2018 expectations and the financial conversation focuses
on increased growth and capital improvements. On behalf of THELMA thank you to all our donors,
sponsors, members, and the community for all the gracious monetary and in-kind donations. Be
proud and smile forever at what was accomplished in 2017.

“As a part of the Healthcare Field we
pride ourselves on offering
continuing education to our staff
throughout the year. We have found
that where we choose to hold
these classes has much to do with
how our employees retain this
information.
Being able to access THELMA and
using their beautiful facilities gives us
the relaxed atmosphere we’ve looked
for. Taking the team off campus allows
us all to focus on the topics of the day
without interruptions.
Whether a group of 15 or over 100,
the team at THELMA is there to
make sure our needs have
been met. And while on site, the
team is always engaged and attentive.
So helpful. Like they are an
extension of us!
Thank you for this past year. We look
forward to our events this year!“

11. “Our experience with having our wedding reception
at THELMA was fabulous. The entire staff was
incredibly responsive, supportive and excited to help
us throughout the whole process. They listened to us
and were a great resource in sharing their expertise!
Their relationships with other local vendors made it
all much easier.
We would highly recommend the THELMA team for
any event you are planning where you want
memories to last a lifetime; where everyone comes
to the event eager with anticipation and leaves
wishing it wouldn’t end.
We were so impressed with the planning experience
that we ended up booking space at THELMA for our
rehearsal dinner and gift opening as well! THELMA
will always be a special place for us because of
the great memories we made there during our
wedding weekend.”

17. The Face of Volunteers
Terry Schmid has been THELMA’s volunteer IT guy
since 2014. He finds time to help us with the small
fixes and the large ones too! He is knowledgeable
and responsive - even when it interrupts his day.
In the photo to the right, Terry was responding to
Jacqui’s call - the night before the 2016 Annual
Report needed to go the printer - her computer
went dark. Terry left his granddaughter’s game to
come help. He fixed it and the report made it to
the printer! We are so thankful for all Terry has
done for us! Thank you Terry!
