  16. 16. Times of Gideon…• Difficult times for the Israelites• Life was hard & stressful• For SEVEN YEARS - Living in fear …• There was no peace ….• “…they cried out to the Lord…”
  17. 17. Jehovah-ShalomQuestion : WHO WANTS PEACE IN YOUR LIFE NOW ?Everyone wants PEACE … But what is PEACE ?Definition of Peace (Free Dictionary) : • The absence of war or hostilities. hostilities. • Freedom from quarrels & disagreements; • Inner contentment, serenityWhat is PEACE to you ?WHAT will give you PEACE ?
  18. 18. Jehovah-ShalomReading Judges 6:11-13We find Gideon threshing wheat in a winepress …Why ?• He was hiding,• He was afraid,• He’s not at peace…Then …
  19. 19. V13 "But sir," Gideon replied, "IF the Lord is with us, WHY has all this happened to us? WHERE are all his wonders that our fathers told us about when they said, Did not theLord bring us up out "The Lord is withof Egypt? BUT NOW you, mighty the Lord has abandoned us and warrior."put us into the hand of Midian." Midian."
  20. 20. JEHOVAH-SHALOM From Gideon’s understanding  “If the Lord is with us …”  “Why …”  “Where …” Gideon’s conclusion :  God it is all your fault. Gideon got the WRONG DIAGNOSIS
  21. 21. It was because of  Willful DISOBEDIENCE …  and SIN … … that caused their suffering Gideon saw only the ‘externals’ but did not see the ‘internals’ Q: Are we at times also guilty of making the Wrong Diagnosis ?1. WRONG DIAGNOSIS do we ’also If things go wrong, – MAN S blame God ? VIEWPOINT
  22. 22. Gideon did not getany reply to hisquestions ….Reading v14-15, 15 "But Lord Lord, how can I save Israel? My clan is the V14 Go in the weakest in strength you have Manasseh, and and save Israel out of I am the least in Midians hand. Am I my family." not sending you?"
  23. 23. V16 The LORDanswered …. "I WILL BE WITH YOU, AND YOU WILL strike down all the Midianites together."
  24. 24. Who me ?? Jehovah Shalom Meaning of Smallest in Manasseh… ‘Gideon’ Least in my family … - a hacker,How did Gideon see himself ? a destroyer a nobody, weak, insignificantHow did God see Gideon ? v12 : mighty warrior, mighty man of valorGideon had the WRONG PERSPECTIVEBecause of Man’s Limitations.
  25. 25. 1 Cor 1:27-29 God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. Many of us can identify with Gideon …. - weak, insignificant nobodies …But Whose PERSPECTIVE is more important ? - Your’s or God’s ?
  26. 26. 17 Gideon replied, "If now I have found favor in youreyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me.18 Please do not go away until I come back and bringmy offering and set it before you.“ And the Lord said,"I will wait until you return."19 Gideon went in, prepared ayoung goat, and from an ephahof flour he made bread withoutyeast. Putting the meat in abasket and its broth in a pot, hebrought them out and offeredthem to him under the oak.Reading Judges 6:17-19
  27. 27. Judg 6:20-21The angel of God said to him, "Take the meatand the unleavened bread, place them on thisrock, and pour out the broth." And Gideon didso. With the tip of the staff that was in hishand, the angel of the Lord touched the meatand the unleavenedbread.Fire flared from therock, consuming themeat and the bread. And the angel of theLord disappeared.
  28. 28. Judg 6:22 NLT When Gideon Judg 6:23 "Peace! realized that it Do not be afraid.was the angel of You are not going the Lord, to die." he cried out,"Oh, Sovereign Lord, Imdoomed! I have seen the angelof the Lord face to face!"
  29. 29. Jehovah-ShalomGideon thought he was doomed … that he will die …WHY ? Ref Ex 33:20 "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live”Gideon had the WRONG PROGNOSIS bec. of Man’s Understanding.Defn of Prognosis: probable outcome or ‘course’ of a disease; the patients chance of recovery’…Are we at times also guilty of doing so ?
  30. 30. Jehovah Shalom Judg 6:24 So Gideonbuilt an altar to the Lord there and called it TheLord is Peace.
  31. 31. How Many Of You Are StillWondering Where Is ThisPerfect Peaceful Place On Planet Earth ?

  36. 36. Jehovah-ShalomThe Question that was asked earlier …WHAT will give you PEACE ?  Health  Wealth  Food  Shelter  Family  Possessions …If so, then we would expect the rich, thefamous people to be very PEACEFUL … but are they ?
  37. 37. Jehovah-ShalomIt is said … To get the RIGHT ANSWER, we must ask the RIGHT QUESTIONThe Question: “WHAT will give you PEACE?” is the WRONG QUESTION.The RIGHT QUESTION in searching forPEACE is… “WHO will give you PEACE ?”Answer : Rom 5:1“… we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, …”
  38. 38. Jehovah Shalomi. God can do extraordinary things with ordinary peopleii. It’s OK to be real with God and express to Him our doubts at timesiii. Our peace is not found in what we have on this earth, it is found in who we are in Christ!iv. Biblical peace is not the eradication of problems, but assurance of Gods presence even in problems!
