This document provides instructions for creating a "tornado in a jar" science experiment using water, blue food dye, vinegar, and dish soap in a glass jar. The students hypothesized that spinning the jar would create a miniature tornado inside. However, their conclusion was that the experiment failed because adding dish soap prevented the tornado from forming. They determined the dish soap should be omitted for the experiment to work properly.

1. Tornado in a jar!!!

2. Materials!
Glass jar with lid (any kind of jar),water, Dawn dish soap,
vinegar, and blue food dye

3. How to make it!!!!
1. Fill your jar about ¾ full
with water and add in 3-5
drops of blue food dye.

4. 2. Add a teaspoon of dish soap and a
teaspoon vinegar to your blue water

5. 3. Tighten your lid (VERY TIGHT)
4. Turn the bottle upside-down and
hold it by the neck.

6. Quickly spin the bottle in a circular motion for a FEW
SECONDS. Stop and look inside and see a mini tornado
forming in the water. You might need to try it a few
times before you get it working properly.

7. Our hypothesis
Our hypothesis is that we thought it was
going to work and basically thought it
was going to be a success.

8. Our conclusion
Our conclusion is that it was a complete fail!!!!
It didn’t work because of the dish soap so don’t
add dish soap!!!
