They said: "How can he exercise authority over us when we are better fitted than he to exercise authority, and he is not even gifted, with wealth in abundance?" He said: "Allah hath chosen him above you, and hath gifted him abundantly with knowledge and bodily prowess: Allah granteth His authority to whom He pleaseth. Allah is All-Embracing, and He knoweth all things."
  3. 3. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  Al-Baqarah> Verse  269 He granteth wisdom to whom He pleaseth; and he to whom wisdom is granted receiveth indeed a benefit overflowing; but none will grasp the Message but men of understanding.
  4. 4. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  Al-i-'Imran> Verse  7 He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book; in it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the Book: others are not of well-established meaning. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is not of well-established meaning. Seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its true meanings except Allah. 6. 6. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  Yusuf> Verse  68 And when they entered in the manner their father had enjoined, it did not profit them in the least against (the Plan of) Allah: it was but a necessity of Jacob's soul, which he discharged. 8. 8. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  Al-Hajj> Verse  54 And that those on whom knowledge has been bestowed may learn that the (Qur-an) is the Truth from thy Lord, and that they may believe therein, and their hearts may be made humbly (open) to it: for verily Allah is the Guide of those who believe, to the Straight Way.
  9. 9. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  An-Naml> Verse  15 We gave (in the past) knowledge to David and Solomon: and they both said: "Praise be to Allah, Who has favoured us above many of His servants who believe!"
  10. 10. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  An-Naml> Verse  40 Said one who had knowledge of the Book: "I will bring it to thee within the twinkling of any eye!" Then when (Solomon) saw it placed firmly before him, he said: "This is by the grace of my Lord! to test me whether I am grateful or ungrateful! And if any is grateful, truly his gratitude is (a gain) for his own soul; but if any is ungrateful, truly my Lord is Free of All Needs, Supreme in Honour!"...
  11. 11. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  An-Naml> Verse  52 Now such were their houses, - in utter ruin - because they practised wrong-doing. Verily in this is a Sign for people of knowledge.
  12. 12. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  Al-Qasas> Verse  14 When he reached full age, and was firmly established (in life), We bestowed on him wisdom and knowledge: For thus do We reward those who do good.
  13. 13. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  Al-Qasas> Verse  80 But those who had been granted (true) knowledge said: "Alas for you! The reward of Allah (in the Hereafter) is best for those who believe and work righteousness: but this none shall attain, save those who steadfastly persevere (in good)."
  14. 14. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  Al-'Ankabut> Verse  41 The parable of those who take protectors other than Allah is that of the Spider, who builds (to itself) a house; but truly the flimsiest of houses is the Spider's house; if they but knew.
  15. 15. The Holy Qur'an > Surah  Al-'Ankabut> Verse  43 And such are the Parables We set forth for mankind, but only those understand them who have knowledge.
