What is a “Miracle”? المعجزة <ul><li>Comes to challenge people in a matter they have mastered </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Musa’s (PBUH) miracles challenged Magic. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Issa’s (PBUH) miracles challenged Medicine. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Muhammad’s (PBUH) miracle challenged the Language Arts of the Arabs. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Khaled bin Uqba or Al-Walid bin Al-Mugira “..these are not the words of a human..” </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Islam of Umar </li></ul></ul></ul>

[3] But what could tell you but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)? [4] Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might benefit him? [5] As to one who regards himself as self-sufficient, [6] To him you attend; [7] Though it is no blame on you if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). [8] But as to him who came to you striving earnestly, [9] And with fear (in his heart), [10] Of him you were unmindful. العنكبوت 29 : 48 التحريم 66 : 1 عبس 80 : 1-10

Why do you hold to be forbidden that which Allah has made lawful to you? You seek to please your wives but Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. التحريم 66 : 1

You look for the temporal goods of this world; but Allah looks to the Hereafter: and Allah is Exalted in might, Wise. الأنفال 8 : 67

[14] &quot;If then they (your false gods) answer not your (call), know you that this Revelation is sent down (replete) with the knowledge of Allah, and that there is no god but He! Will you even then submit (to Islam)?&quot; هود 11 : 13-14

The Miracle of The Quran <ul><li>Challenging in Madina </li></ul>And if you are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Sura like thereunto; and call your witnesses or helpers (if there are any) besides Allah, if your (doubts) are true. البقرة 2 : 23
  14. 14. <ul><li>Alif-Lâm-Râ . (This is) a Book, the Verses whereof are perfected (in every sphere of knowledge), and then explained in detail from One (Allâh) Who is All-Wise Well-Acquainted (with all things). </li></ul>هود 11 : 1

(40 words vs. 12 for English) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Poetic Language: An art mastered by Arabs before Islam. They hung poems on Ka’aba. </li></ul></ul>

Do you prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the Hereafter.

The Miracle of The Quran <ul><li>Each word and letter has a purpose. </li></ul>O my son! establish regular prayer, enjoin what is just, and forbid what is wrong; and bear with patient constancy whatever afflicts you; for this is firmness (of purpose) in (the conduct of) affairs. لقمان 31 : 17 الشورى 42 : 43 But indeed if any show patience and forgive, that would truly be an exercise of courageous will and resolution in the conduct of affairs.

Cancel not your charity by reminders of your generosity or by injury, like those who spend their substance to be seen of men, but believe neither in Allah nor in the Last Day. They are in Parable like a hard barren rock, on which is a little soil ; on it falls heavy rain, which leaves it (just) a bare stone. They will be able to do nothing with what they have earned. And Allah guides not those who reject Faith. البقرة 2 : 264

Parables of the Quran And the likeness of those who spend their substance, seeking to please Allah and to strengthen their souls, is as a garden, high (elevated ground) and fertile ; heavy rain falls on it but makes it yield a double increase of harvest, and if it receives not heavy rain, light moisture suffices it. Allah sees well whatever you do . البقرة 2 : 265

Parables of the Quran 175- Relate to them the story of the man to whom We sent Our Signs, but he passed them by: so Satan followed him up, and he went astray. 176- If it had been Our Will, We should have elevated him with Our Signs; but he inclined to the earth, and followed his own vain desires. His similitude is that of a dog: if you attack him, he pants, or if you leave him alone, he (still) pants. That is the similitude of those who reject Our Signs; so relate the story; perchance they may reflect. . . العنكبوت 29 : 176

Parables of the Quran There are among men some who serve Allah, as it were, on the verge : if good befalls them, they are, therewith, well content; but if a trial comes to them, they turn on their faces; they lose both this world and the Hereafter: that is loss for all to see! . الحج 22 : 11
