CELL OBSERVATION LAB ACTIVITY
Materials:
Glass
Slides
Cover slips
Droppers
Onion Skin
Various prepared slides (blood, cork)
Methylene blue dye
Procedure.
A. Obtain a clean slide. If the slide needs to be cleaned, rinse your slide with water and wipe dry. Place a drop
of iodine in the middle of the clean slide.
B. Peel a thin layer of onion skin.
C. Place the onion peel in the drop of iodine and then add a cover slip. Make sure the onion peel is flat.
D. Examine the onion under your microscope. Using a pencil, draw your observations below.
E. Label the Cell wall, Nucleus, Cytoplasm. If you’re lucky, you can find the Nucleolus.
F Repeat the procedure since part D with other prepared slides.
G. Do not forget take notes in your science notebook.
