"The Cubet" is a project developed in the studio "Oberlichtsaal Gallery" with the colloboration of Jannette Sesselmann, Olaf Kammler, Iremnur Tokac, Mu Chen, Kan Feng, Shuyan Chen.

3. The origins of Bauhaus can be trace
back to the 19th century. It had begun
to be developed as a response to the
devastating consequences of Industrial
Revolution as initiating a shift in the
manufactured products and product
design, later it would be enhanced to
the way of art and design education.
Bauhaus has a huge impact on modern
art, design and architecture as developing
a merge of machine production and arts
and crafts. Celebrating the hundred years
of Bauhaus, we would like to emphasize
the close relations between design and
industry, which Bauhaus achieved most
successfully, with designing a modular
exhibition system which enables a variety
of spatial properties for different contexts.

5. Henry van de Velde, the designer of
the iconic building of the Grand Ducal
Saxon Academy of Fine Arts -today
known as Bauhaus University- in
Weimar, emitted his architectural design
approach to the world. He believed
in that the structural components
of a building should be designed as
ornaments, they should give a character
to the building, yet to be necessary to
the structure. His Oberlichtsaal Gallery
was evaluated through this approach
and taken as an initial background. In
that background, it has been designed
a structural system that provides many
spatial possibilities which intends to
demonstrate the togetherness of
design and structure. Therefore, the
inspiration of Bauhaus is not taken
literally, but it is taken conceptually.
The system attempts to take a step
forward from the Bauhaus methodology
of designing the elements of design
to another stage of designing the
flexibility as well. Flexibility is a crucial
issue in exhibition design responding
to the demand of differentiated space
for a huge variety of art works. Hence,
realization of the system would push the
exhibition design further by offering a
great deal of capabilities of displaying.

9. Cubet is a system provides many display
possibilities which allows designers to
create various attractive space to exhibit
art works. The profile has a special
design offering a hidden space for
infrastructure inside of the frame and a
sophisticated detailing for assembling
different construction components.
There is a cut out inside of the
frame for embedding infrastructural
elements, which the exhibition might
need, such as electricity, sensors and
LEDs. Hence, in case of the using
such elements, they will not be
exposed and disturb the exhibition.
The railing detail enables panels, LCD
screens, reflective panels, translucent
panels to be assembled inside of the
frame and/or on the frame. These panel
elements could be used as information
screens, light source, exhibition room for
the art work, installation components
and other to imagine possibilities.
CUBET
The Exhibition System
The Cubet gives the opportunity to
construct a three dimensional grid
system that the curators/exhibition
designers could play around with spatial
possibilities. The exhibition space and
the furniture elements inside of it are
generated by the composition of the
frame and the additional elements,
which is mentioned above.
In conclusion, the system is a competent
example of adaptable design.

11. The Oberlichtsaal gallery is intended
to study conceptually in order to create
a topography. The study is taken as
an interpretation of Oberlichtsaal
gallery based on a shadow mapping
of the existing structure. The aim is to

translate the features of Oberlichtsaal
gallery into an architectonic
landscape as an exhibition space.

13. An exhibition hall constructed as a
composition of the panels and the Cubet
frames are assembled together. There
are LEDs embedded on the frames.
The panels, which are movable in each
frame cube, are connected to LEDs with
a circuit. The light fades up and down
based on the movement of the panel.
Hence, visitors are able to control the
light through a physical interaction.

15. The duplicated reflection of the mirror
shows a new way of a media which
is virtual mass produced. It generates
a new space of augmented reality.

Explaination
The Cubet profile contains of two
parts which are symmetrical. Thus,
the production of the pieces would
be easy and fast in means of mass
production. In spite of the particular mass
production process of the sophisticated
profiles, the system is set up by using
the standard construction components

The Cubet, also, provides a variety
of possibilities to use the products
which are available on market for
constructing an exhibition space based
on the different desired conditions.
