the risks and benefits of the

universally accepted cooperative
principles.
6. SELF – HELP
The self-help values of cooperatives are
anchored on the reality that a man needs his
fellow human being in order to survive. As the
saying goes “ No man is an island, no man stands
alone”. A man does not possess everything he
needs to live. He needs to interact and
collaborate with another to meet his goals.
7. SELF - RESPONSIBILITY
As an institution, a cooperative bears
responsibility to both its members and the
community where it is part of. As an organization
that is responsible to its members, the
cooperative has to exercise the principle of
subsidiarity which means that, in addition to its
business services, it must make sure that the
members are provided with non-monetary
services for their balanced development.
8. DEMOCRACY
Cooperative is a democratic
organization. No one member is
given more privileges than the
others by virtue of race, belief,
religion, and others. The
members choose their own
leaders.
9. EQUALITY
Cooperative promotes peace among its
members. Each member is provided with
the equal opportunity to be entitled to
the various services of their cooperative.
No one is above over the other members
in benefits, services and
responsibilities.
