2. Film distribution
• The aim for film distributer is to deliver the largest possible
audience for a film. This can be a difficult task for many
distributors as there are a wide variety of entertainment options
in the modern day.
• When thinking about the distribution of the film, they need to
take into account the target audience of the film and what they
want to see in that particular genre. This is crucial as the film can
only be released once.
3. What they need to consider
• Who is the audience?
• Who does the films speak to?
• Does the narrative appeal to the intended audience?
• Doe the film justify the cost and risk of a release?
• What sorts of audiences have similar film attracted?
4. • Film distributers have to think about the
marketability, which is how it can be
promoted to an audience. They will also
think about the playability, which is
about how the film will perform in the
market.
• Many people believe that these are the
same thing, however there are major
differences that the distributers need to
consider before making the decsison
5. When further developing the plans the
distributers need to consider:
• Competition – they need to consider what other films will be released at
the same time and also whether these film will be directed towards the
same target audience. This could be very damaging for the distribution
company’s sales. The release dates for some films can be altered due to
this reason.
• they may also consider how big the film may be. A blockbuster film? A
specialized film for smaller audiences?
• The actors may also need to be considered in this part. How famous are the
actors or what were their last roles played are questions that may be asked
around the company. When distributing the film they will want to be
successful and earn money so will therefore want popular actors to attract
a wide audience.
6. Expense
• Film distribution
can be very
expensive which is
why the decision of
distributing a film
is taken so
seriously. Here is
an example of the
expenses that they
may go through to
promote and
distribute a new
film.
