2. “What gender are you?”
This common question for a 1st hand research
technique as it gives us an idea of who and what
type of person we are asking without being too
personal which might deter the candidates
willingness to answer the survey. Also this
question will allow us to see if we are making the
survey fair by asking an equal quantity of each
sex. If in the scenario of the results showing more
females have been asked than males for
example, this would lead to more questionnaires
being handed out to the right amount of males.
3. “What is your age range?”
This again is a common survey question as it will allow us to learn
what type of people we are asking and if they fit into the age range
then use the results to effect our documentary. We expect to
achieve results for this question with the box filled in at the ‘16-18’
category, as this is our target audience and the most likely
candidate for where we will be handing the questionnaire out to.
The fact the will most likely be surveying students, because that is
who our topic involves, means that the age range options focuses
on the ages of people who are most likely in education, for example
‘16-18’ would allow for college students, but ‘19-21’ would be more
focused on university students. This will allow us to find trends of
different age ranges. Moreover it will be interesting to get a age
range that is not in the target market to gather their opinion on
students or how the questions appeals to them.
4. “Do you ever feel overwhelmed or stressed
with the workload of your education?”
This question was asked to allows us the filmmakers to
learn what currents students think about the situation
of education linked to mental health. The
questionnaire asks a simple ‘yes/no’ answer as this
question also has the opportunity to presents itself as a
statistic that can be used in the documentary. Ideally
our expectations of these results is that the students
will all answer ‘yes’ which we will then mediate in the
documentary to shock the viewer. For example the
narration in the documentary could state, “Shockingly
100% of students said they feel stressed with
educational workload”.
5. “Have you ever participated in any mental
health awareness education?”
This question is used to highlight how our government and
educational establishments covers topics to educate
students about mental health and its effects. The
candidates answers will serve as a basis of how the
documentary will perceive educational establishments. The
documentary will construct a reality for the audience as it
will either side as showing educational establishments in a
positive light, or in a negative light, which will be done to
shock the audience as it will give the point that not even a
educational body is not taking this topic seriously. This
point will only be presented if the most popular result on
this question is ‘no’. If ‘yes’ is answered it will be interesting
for this to be converted into a statistic, which could be used
in the documentary.
6. “Are you aware of any mental health awareness
schemes or education? And if so what?”
This is the first question that allows the candidate to expand on their answer, as it
give space so that the candidate can write about what schemes they know of.
This question has been asked in this way as the last question constructs the
assumption that the candidate would be willing to attend a educational scheme
if available to them, but this might not be true to all the candidates taking the
survey. To combat this, this question shows how available an educational scheme
is to them, if they were interested to learn about mental health in the future for
example. This question also gives us the idea on how generally well know the
topic of mental health is, and it not being a new topic for the students. There is
also a possibility that the candidates might answer ‘none’ to the question. This
again might not be a negative thing that couldn't be presented in the
documentary as it will give us the opportunity to mediate and give the idea of
how the innocent students are not aware of a serious damaging effect of their
health at the hand of the establishments that teach them because of the lack of
education. With this effect potentially being compared to a scenario where the
lack of hygiene could cause illness in schools scandal, allowing the audience to
relate and understand the seriousness of mental health.
7. “Do you think mental health awareness should
take a bigger role in education? And why?”
To gather an idea of what the students would like to
see if things were changed, we have used this
question. This again can promote the idea that
the students want mental health education
supporting the underdog style narrative of good
vs bad that we are aiming to achieve in the
documentary. This question will also help to leave
a closing to the documentary as we can present
the idea that the this promotion of mental health
is something that students want yet nothing is
being done about it.
