•Brief description of hack (2-3 lines)
Track Me is a mobile application which helps you send location updates to your
family, via SMS when you are travelling. It helps family members track your
journey and remain informed. Keeping your privacy in mind, Track Me only
sends your location details to the people you have selected and does not
broadcast the same.
3. HACK DESCRIPTION
• What problem are you solving:
When you are travelling out of town, very often you need to keep someone back
home updated about your location and safety. But most of the times we forget to do
this and hence cause a lot of anxiety to those who care for us. Using Track Me, you
can send location-based updates via SMS to your near and dear ones.
• Who is your audience:
Anyone who travels out of station frequently.
•Describe your hack (in 2-3 sentences):
For our POC, we used a GPS enabled android-based mobile phone. However this app
can be built for any mobile phone. Cell-tower mapping can be used for getting
location details in case of handsets where GPS is not available.
Using Track Me:
1. Select the people who will be allowed to track you.
2. Setup trigger locations on the map – these are locations at which SMS updates
will be sent.
3. Enable Tracking.
Whenever you reach a trigger location, an SMS will be sent to the selected people.
4. •Describe your use case:
I am travelling from my home in Pune to Lalit Ashok Hotel, Bangalore
for Yahoo! Open Hack India. Since I am travelling alone, my mother is
worried and would like to remain informed through out my journey. I,
on the other hand, am excited about participating in Open Hack and
meeting Douglas Crockford and hence forget to message her. Using
Track Me, I setup trigger points on the map –
1. Pune Railway Station,
2. Some in between stations like Sangli, Hubli, etc,
3. Bangalore Railway Station
4. Lalit Ashok Hotel, Bangalore.
During my travel, whenever I reach or pass through these places, an
SMS is automatically sent to my mother letting her know where I am.
This use case can be mapped to any similar travel situation.
