Joy Duling, Interim Executive Director for CIHIE, will share strategies that their team has been utilizing to prepare their 20-county region for the impending HIE implementation. From compelling use of patient stories, to passionately sharing their vision, to talking about the technology in ways that appeal to non-technical stakeholders, CIHIE has created a desire for and urgency around the HIE solution. As evidence of their success, CIHIE has raised nearly $400,000 in seed money, plus annual service contracts with 7 hospitals and 4 clinics to kick off their region’s roll-out.

In June 2009… • Illinois was ranked 49th in the country in our readiness for health information exchange. • No one was talking about exchange at the community level. • Fierce competition among local hospital systems made the likelihood of a cooperative HIE seem unrealistic. 3 Your Health Information Exchange 4/2/2012

Fast Forward 6 months, to Dec 2009… 188 people volunteering their expertise, across 20 counties, contributing approx. 664 hours per month equated to 83 DAYS of combined planning every month Executive Council, 4 Regional Councils 6 Workgroups: Governance, Financial Sustainability, Communications, Legal/Privacy, Clinical Data & Technical Infrastructure • Hospitals • Long-term care providers • Practicing Physicians • Dental providers • Federally Qualified Health Centers • Academy Institutions • Laboratories • Consumers and consumer groups • Pharmacies • Quality improvement organizations • Health plans and insurers • Healthcare and professional associations • Local health departments • Medical societies • Behavioral healthcare providers • Etc. • Outpatient rehabilitation facilities 4 4/2/2012
