This document discusses the potential hazards, risk ratings, and controls for several filming locations in London and Amsterdam. At God's Own Junkyard in London, hazards include restrictions on photography and trip hazards from lights, though the risk is low. Controls involve contacting the location and warning each other about footing. At Junkyard Golf in Amsterdam, low lighting could cause trip hazards on golf items and the chance of getting hit by a golf ball is medium risk. Controls involve listening for others and ducking if needed. Using trains as transportation between locations in London is medium risk due to busy rush hours, so the group will stay together and be cautious at stations. Oxford Street can get busy but the risk is low if being aware of pedestrians.
1. Location Possible Hazards Risk Rating(High,
Medium, Low)
Controls
God’s own Junkyard,
London
Being prevented
from taking any form
of photography. As
well as the flash
reflecting off of the
lights onto our
filming source e.g.
iPhone or Camera.
Another hazard is
that the vast number
of lights could act as
a trip hazard
towards the group.
This risk rating we
would say is still low,
due to the fact that
it isn’t actually
harmful to any
members of the
group. Although it
would prevent us
from using the
location as part of
our music video. It
could also act as a
distraction within
out music video,
meaning we would
have to void the
footage altogether if
the flash overpowers
everything else
occurring on screen.
A control of this
would be to contact
the location
ourselves first hand
asking whether they
would allows us to
film for educational
purposes. If we find
that our answer is
negative we do have
other potential
locations we can use
instead as a backup
just in case. A
control of tripping
over the lights is
calling out and
warning one another
of each others
footing whilst
filming.
2. Location Possible Hazards Risk Rating (High,
Medium, Low)
Controls
Junkyard Golf, Amsterdam The low lighting may
increase the likelihood of
trip hazards, on item such
as golf balls and clubs,
especially if we are
filming at the same time
as playing golf. Playing in
darkness as well as close
proximity to others also
increases the chance of
getting hit by a golf ball.
This is of a medium risk
rating as it can be easily
avoided by being aware of
other players around you
who are also playing golf
around you. The medium
risk is also concluded by
the fact that it is not
completely dark, we are
provided with some light
source with the neon
lights lighting up the golf
holes and pitch, which we
can use to our advantage,
as it may allows us the
ability to create some
‘cool’ shots.
Certain controls include
listening out for others in
your surroundings and
taking action such as
ducking and covering your
head just in case a golf
ball does come your way.
Another control would be
to call out and warn one
another of their footing
whilst filming, as it is easy
to get distracted and
misjudge where you are
placing your feet.
3. Location Possible Hazards Risk Rating (Low,
Medium, High)
Controls
The Vaults, London Due to the fact that
the locations we
have chosen have a
fair amount of
distance between
them, we have
decided to
commute by train
in order to get
around quicker.
This is of a medium
hazard, as
especially in rush
hour the tube gets
fairly busy with the
amount of people
using the same
transportation. If
we’re not careful
we could either
lose one another,
lose equipment or
in extreme
circumstances get
hurt.
When getting on
and off trains we
would have to
make sue we are all
still together and all
have our
belongings with us.
We would also
have to be very
cautious when
passing through
each station to get
to the chosen
locations, however
our combined
experience with
travel will help us
as a group.
4. Location Possible Hazards Risk Rating (Low,
Medium, High)
Controls
Oxford Street,
London
The street can get
fairly busy at peak
times. This is due to
the fact that the
road is situated in
the city centre of
London. As well as
this the street is
also known for
being a hotspot to
get good photo
opportunities to
and various other
social media
platforms. Many
bloggers and
YouTubers do this
in particular.
This is a fairly low
risk as we all have
to be careful of is
getting in the way
of pedestrians. We
all have experience
visiting London so
know how to deal
with this efficiently
and effectively.
As a group we
would just have to
be aware of people
in the background
during the shots,
however this may
end up working in
our advantage and
add to the
atmosphere our
media video is
creating towards
our target
audience.
5. Locations Possible Hazards Risk Rating (Low,
Medium, High)
Controls
Hyde Park, London One possible
hazard is how busy
the park can get at
peak times. This
park attracts many
people such as
runners and dog
walkers. The
busyness may
distract our shots,
so we would have
to be aware of
where we place the
camera and what
can be seen in the
background.
This is of a fairly
medium risk as
filming equipment
can become a
hazard to both the
filming group and
other people.
Especially the
tripod if we decide
to use it, we are
debating whether
to bring it with us
because we are
trying to limit what
we carry as much
as possible.
The main control of
this is to be aware
of our
surroundings. This
would mean we
would have to warn
other people when
we are filming
shots, as well as
this we would have
to warn one
another of each
other's footing in
order to avoid trip
hazards such as
branches etc.
