The document discusses how the film attracted and addressed its target audience. It did so through its opening credits which built tension by leaving the audience wondering what was at the end of a string. It also created doubt and confusion by showing the main character's home surrounded by rubbish, raising questions about his mental health and living conditions. Shots of boarded up windows and the character's worried expression further raised tension by implying an unknown threat outside the home and that he was not sleeping well. The use of a bell as an alarm showed the threat was dangerous and that the character had low resources, adding to the apocalyptic setting.
2. One of the ways in which we attracted our target audience was through our opening credits, having our titles
run along the string meant the audience would be interested in the unknown at the end of the string, as this
was before they could see the tent, the doorknob or the bell. This building of tension keeps the audience
concentrated on the plot rather than other things as your are forcing them into a trap and getting them
hooked. We thought this would be important to do before we revealed any major parts of the set or the actor
himself.
3. Another way in which we attracted and addressed our audience was through putting doubt and confusion
into their minds. The fact that our character’s home was surrounded by rubbish and litter doesn’t only
make the audience wonder why, but also starts raising doubts about the characters mental health and
stability. It also makes the audience pity character because it is clear that he is not living in the best of
conditions, this is even more worrying when it shows the luxurious house that he could potentially be
living in.
4. This shot is fundamental as it is the first shot where it is clear that the tent is inside a house with the
string attached to it showing light coming through the boarded up windows. The fact that the windows
are boarded up show that there is something outside that the actor is scared of which raises the
audiences tension. The curtains in the background show that it was a home before whatever has
happened.
5. This worried expressions on the actors face shows that he is uneasy about what is surrounding the house.
It also puts the image in our head that he has probably not been sleeping very well as he is clearly not as
comfortable as he could be. Also the fact that at this point we don’t know what is outside. This means
what the audience automatically begin to fear is an unknown object of specie. This creates large amounts
of anxiety towards the situation.
6. In this shot it shows a bell being used as an alarm, the fact that there is a necessity of having an
alarm shows that whatever outside the house and attempting to terrorise the actor is something to
be feared and capable of causing harm. Also the innocence and simplicity of a bell shows the
audience that he is living off low resources and will have to make do with what he has. This adds the
apocalyptic effect and the fact that his resources are low could insinuate that he was the last man
alive.
