A small art studio in northeast Fresno lets children and adults unleash their inner artist with paint, brushes
and canvas -- and wine for the adults.
Teresa Mathias opened The Artist in Me, a 900-square-foot studio, in January on the southeast corner of
First Street and Herndon Avenue after a 15-year career in teaching and education administration.
Mathias, who has a degree in fine arts from Fresno State, said she needed something new and fun to do.
Her research led her to a popular business concept in large cities where the public can learn to paint in just
a couple of hours.
"I'm actually teaching and doing my art," Mathias said. "I'm doing something I love, so how lucky am I?"
2. No experience is needed to attend art class at the studio -- just a willingness to have fun.
Mathias provides all the materials including stencils that painters can use to trace the outline of birds, wine
glasses or a deer.
Mathias even offers wine tasting during the evening classes for adults. Her goal is to use local wines.
Here is how the business works: People log on to Mathias' website at TheArtistInMe.us, click the classes tab
and pick a class on the calendar based on the painting they want to paint.
Classes start at $25 and can be paid for online. Then, show up for class, which runs two to three hours.
The studio, which fits 24 people, can be reserved for private parties.
Froyo in the 'No
Downtown Fresno got a new frozen yogurt place last week with the opening of Yogurt Etc.
The locally owned business at 2311 Kern St. near Starbucks carries all kinds of yogurts, including sugar-
free, gluten-free and fat-free yogurts. Flavors run from Southern salted butter pecan yogurt and acai berry
sorbet to chocolate and vanilla. It carries a variety of toppings, some grown on local farms.
The "Etc." in the name refers to the lunch and breakfast items it sells: five kinds of hot dogs, chili, bagels,
steel-cut oatmeal and egg cups with toppings such as ham and cheese. It also sells vegan hot dogs and
vegan chili.
David Goldberg and Hector Parra are behind the restaurant. Goldberg is a 2007 Bullard High School
graduate and son of the owners of The Goldberg Law Firm. Parra is a computer technician and has a
degree in heating, venting and air conditioning.
Yogurt Etc. will be open from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, and
closed on Sundays unless there is an event happening at the Fresno Convention Center across the street.

A boutique inside the salon sells clothing, including suits and casual clothes, shoes and accessories from
India. Many of the clothes can be custom ordered ahead of time and made in India, said owner Parminder
