1. The Face of Cancer
I have cancer.....it doesn't have me.
Situation
No one deserves cancer. When cancer strikes women there are special and unique challenges they will need to face. In
the course of any year, thousands of women in Fresno and Tulare County will find themselves facing the battle of their
life.
As with all victims of cancer, life is turned upside down. The emotions involved in having and fighting cancer are
certainly life changing. For a woman, a life that has been centered on others now must become a life centered on
fighting this insidious disease. But even with that new focus, they still have to go to work, the children must still be fed,
laundry still needs to be done and whether it’s an infant or a teenager, their regular schedules don’t stop.
But the toll this battle takes goes beyond the impact on their day to day lives.
In a life that is most likely crowded with activities and responsibilities, now she needs to make room to for chemo
treatments, radiation and even body altering surgery. It’s a special challenge.
Cancer and its treatment can often change the way women feel about themselves. This may be because of the physical
changes to their bodies and the intense emotions that cancer can cause. It all can lead to a case of serious depression and
a loss of self-esteem.
For many women, another battle awaits them once the traditional treatment methods conclude. Surgery, chemotherapy
and radiation leave not only emotional scars on the patient, but physical scars as well. A woman who is left with
significant scarring on her body will often experience low self esteem stemming from her feelings of a loss of femininity
and beauty. Having a low self-esteem can directly affect their quality of life and lead to long term problems such as
depression and anxiety.
This is where the "Face of Cancer" begins. Society has made great strides in supporting women who seek reconstructive
surgery, but there is still more that can be done. It is critical that these women are given the opportunity to restore their
sense of beauty and their femininity.
The good news is that there are several procedures that can help reduce the impact of the physical toll cancer takes on a
woman's body. New laser technology holds tremendous promise in minimizing the appearance of scars left from surgery
and radiation. Helping women recapture a positive body image can do much to help them in the transition from cancer
patient to cancer survivor.
It is very difficult for women to seek and find these services that can be very helpful to them. Historically, there have not
been any medical spas in the Tulare County of Fresno County area that have specifically addressed these needs in terms
of communication or marketing. The end result has been a lack of knowledge in the marketplace about the many
options women have when beginning the process of reconstruction after cancer. Technology is ever changing and
women now have more opportunities than ever to experience a complete and total transformation after a diagnosis of
cancer.
The loss of perceived femininity is a particularly devastating part of their cancer battle which requires a unique
approach. Tiffany's Medical Spa also recognizes that there are a number of women who could benefit from these
services but due to economic constraints cannot afford it. Tiffany's Medical Spa's "The Face of Cancer" will also involve
a fundraising effort as they seek to provide services to women who may not otherwise be able to afford them.
Tiffany's Medical Spa proudly presents, “The Face of Cancer”, which establishes the promotion of medical treatments
specifically aimed to provide women battling cancer the support and physical help needed to restore their sense of
beauty. The loss of perceived femininity is a particularly devastating part of their cancer battle which requires a unique
approach.
