FRESNO EOC SANCTUARY CHOSEN FOR STOP ON SENTATOR LIU’S STATEWIDE “ROAD TO RESILIENCE
TOUR: OVERCOMING HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS” ACCOMPANIED BY GUEST JOURNALIST LISA
LING OF THE OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK.

(Fresno, CA) Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission will host California Senator Carol Liu’s tour on homelessness on
Sunday, August 12th, 2012 at Sanctuary and Youth Services, 2336 Calaveras Street, in Fresno. “The evening will be youth-led
providing a platform for youth to share their experience being homeless,” said Michelle L. Tutunjian, Fresno EOC Sanctuary and
Youth Services Director.
Guests will be invited to tour Fresno EOC’s Sanctuary Youth Shelter, the only 24 hour emergency shelter, for runaway and
homeless youth under age 18, spanning six counties from Bakersfield to Modesto in California.
“At Sanctuary, we open the doors to homeless and runaway youth providing them with a safe place to help with their transition
into self-sufficiency,” said Tutunjian.
“Many families in the Fresno area have had the odds stacked against them from the start," said Senator Liu (D - La Canada,
Flintridge), but they are anxious to improve their lives and the lives of their children. Others are victims of the economic
downturn and find themselves for the first time without the resources to live a decent life. All of them need and deserve our
support and we need to find the best ways to provide it. The work done by so many in the Central Valley, including Fresno EOC,
is a great example of how we can make their independence and self-sufficiency possible."
