As the major road
reconstruction project on Grove
Street and Jefferson Avenue
continues on the east end of
the Columbus Campus, some
planned changes are beginning
to occur. The first change
happened this week. The 5-S
lot for students reopened for
parking. However, as of right
now, it can only be accessed by
entering from Cleveland
Avenue at Grove Street (in
yellow on the map below). The
entrance off of Spring Street (in
red) remains closed.
You will also note the
preliminary closing dates for
the sections in red and yellow. Those are approximate dates which were set when the project was announced. Those dates could
change slightly. Once we have a firm date on when the red section (Jefferson Avenue at Spring Street) will reopen, and when the
yellow section (Grove Street at Cleveland Avenue) will close, an advisory will be sent out to faculty, staff and students.
Keep in mind, the blue section in the middle will sometimes be reduced to just one lane throughout the summer as a sidewalk is
added and repaving on the road surface begins.
Victim advocacy is available
Columbus State is proud to offer victim advocacy services to any student, faculty or staff member who has been the victim of a
crime. The program is staffed with trained advocates who are designated by the office of the Dean of Student Life to provide victim
services on campus. Columbus State Advocates provide non-confidential services, however, if confidential services are needed, the
college has licensed counselors on staff who are able to provide those services to students. Fulltime faculty and staff can access the
College’s Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) through Matrix.
Columbus State advocates can provide a number of types of services. These include:
Providing information on reporting procedures to both on- and off-campus departments and agencies;
Providing information on Columbus State educational support resources;
Providing information on victim resources available on and off campus;
Processing reactions to the crime and listening to feelings and concerns;
Addressing specific issues related to personal safety on and off campus
Attending appointments or hearing meetings with the victim; and
Contacting others on behalf of the victim with their permission.
An advocate may be contacted through the victim advocate hotline (614)287-5979 or by contacting Columbus State Police. You may
also contact an advocate by emailing victimadvocacy@cscc.edu.
‘National Week of Making’ Library events to be held
The White House has announced it will celebrate a “National Week of Making” June 17-23. As part of this celebration, the Columbus

Make 3D-Printed Name Tag - Thursday, June 23, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Delaware Campus MO 245, Learn about 3D printing and use
Tinkercad, a free 3D design program, to create your own nametag, which will be printed by the Learning Center’s 3D printer. Name
tags can be picked up at the Learning Center (MO 149) when ready.
In addition to workshops, there will be iPad kiosks located on the Library’s second floor and at the Delaware Campus Learning
Center equipped with 3D modeling software available for use throughout the week. Students will not be able to print items created at
these kiosks but are welcome to explore the software, use tutorials, and save their created files.
AT&T ‘Virtual Reality Tour’ about texting and
driving offered
It can be hard for anyone, whether teen or adult, to resist the urge to respond quickly to a text. An
AT&T Commuter Survey showed that nearly half of adult commuters admitted to texting while
driving despite knowing the risks. That’s why AT&T is bringing the “It Can Wait” message to the
Columbus Campus on Tuesday, June 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the courtyard. This 3-D
simulator experience allows you to safely experience the dangers of texting behind the wheel.
Come learn about the dangers of texting while driving and take the pledge to never text behind the
wheel. All students, staff, faculty, and visitors are welcome! Read more on the Hub.
Employment Expo volunteers needed
Columbus State will host Employment Expo 2016 on Wednesday, June 22, and volunteers are needed. The event will be held in the
Center for Workforce Development from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the first floor. Volunteers are
needed for one-hour shifts in parking, registration, and event support. Please indicate your preference and availability on the form
available on the Hub. You will receive a confirmation email with the time and volunteer area for the event.
Service Award listings now available
Employee listings have been posted on the Intranet for those who have reached service anniversaries with the college as of
December 31, 2015. The awards lists are posted on the Intranet, which requires you to log in to access. If you have reached an
anniversary of five, ten, 15 years, etc., please check the list to confirm the spelling of your name, and accuracy of the lists. Contact
serviceawards@cscc.edu with any corrections or questions.

Two summer discussion series on book and videos offered
The “Small Teaching Book Club” is a series of discussions based on chapters of the book Small Teaching by James Lang. Lang, who
is the keynote speaker at the Faculty Idea Exchange taking place Friday, explains small but effective ways to integrate lessons from
research on learning into classroom practice. Book Club discussions take place Fridays at 1:00 p.m. on June 24, July 8-29, and

4. The “Magna Mentor Video Discussion Series” is based on videos in the Magna 20-Minute Mentor Commons, an on-demand digital
library of targeted faculty development that offers solutions to common classroom challenges. Several videos have been selected for
discussions on Wednesdays at 11:45 a.m. on June 29, July 6-27, and August 3. Topics include student feedback, learning and
memory, analogies, student responsibility, growth mindset, and meaningful assignments. Read more and register. These and dozens

‘Understanding Conflict’ offered Monday
Believe it or not, conflict can be a healthy and productive part of the workplace environment. In the workshop “Understanding
Conflict,” we will examine the different conflict styles of the Thomas Kilman Conflict module to understand our own go-to style, and
explore healthy resolution strategies. The class is offered Monday, June 20, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Please register today.
