18. One major goal of CAA is to facilitate the publication of
museum objects,
• if possible, in their entirety, or at least whole groups,
• in a satisfactory, complete description,
• with sufficient photographic illustration, and,
• if needful, also with graphic illustration.
Publication of a group of objects in a collection should not
be hampered by difficulties with single objects: the loose
leaf form allows to publish defective groups, with the
option of filling the gap at any later time.
19. The claim for completeness of description is supported by a
standardized questionaire.
1.Location (place, museum)
2.Inventory number,
3.Designation of object,
4.Dating
5.Provenance,
6.Acquisition details,
7.Material,
8.Measurements.
20. To this questionaire correspond the entries in the opening
block on the first page of each object:
(also available in English and French!)
21. The “general description of the object” is to be systematized in the
following way.
• General description
• Representation(s) and text(s)
• Commentary
• Technical details
material — colour — measurements — manufacture — alterations
• History of the object
• Listing of Photographs, drawings, squeezes, casts, reproductions,
documentation
• Bibliography [of the object]
• Literature [i.e., references to the text above]
The publication of the object is to be concluded
• by facsimile drawings of inscriptions (where pertinent, and available)
• by photographs (as many as makes sense)
22. CAA Berlin would include the publication of 35 Middle
Kingdom and Second Intermediate Period stelae from the
Berlin collection:
Inv. no 1117, 1121, 1188, 1190, 1191, 1192, 1197,
1200, 7280, 7282, 7286, 7287, 7288, 7294, 7296, 7300,
7309, 7311, 7312, 7313, 7319, 7356, 7357, 7589, 7731,
7732, 7779, 8802, 13675, 13677, 13721, 19582, 24031,
31219, and 31222.
