2. Background
In October 2012 Council teamed up with Bicycle
Network Victoria to conduct a BikeScope
Survey. The aim of the BikeScope Survey was
to:
Identify the needs of both residents and
riders in relation to the bike network; and
Assist in identifying measures that need to be
addressed to facilitate an increase in cycling
participation in Bayside
3. Respondents
There were 1,546 responses to the survey
The respondents were mostly male (72%)
The majority of respondents ride 3 days per week
29% of respondents ride between 100 and
200kms per week
29% of respondents ride between 50 and 100kms
per week
17% of respondents ride between 20 and 50kms
per week
12% of respondents ride between 0 and 20kms
per week

local road network. The most popular

New Street – Continuous bike lane, surface
improvements
Bay Street – Continuous bike lane
Martin Street – Wider bike lane, surface
improvements
Dendy Street – Continuous bike lane
8. The survey asked respondents what
bicycle infrastructure improvements
that they would like to see on for
off-road shared paths. The most
popular answers included:
Bay Trail – Increased separation, improved
surface
Nepean Highway – Improved surface,
implement missing link between Gardenvale
Station and Rose Street
Elster Creek / Elwood Canal Trail – Improved
surface, wider path, improved lighting
