Editor's Notes
What is seen throughout data centers today is that data of all types is growing. The Business Driven data that IT has spent the most time historically caring for continues to grow at an astounding rate. Be it OLTP, ERP or other critical business systems, there is no expectation for this data growth to slow any time soon. But, from an absolute capacity standpoint, the amount of business driven data is quickly becoming overwhelmed by the Human Driven data, like email, collaboration and documents, files of all types and even social media. There is an increasing recognition that more of this data is business critical and needs to be managed, but also that many types – social for instance – may have amplified value in a big data analytics context. Increasingly, the capture and analysis of this data will be seen as enhancing business success. However, past that, a far greater amount of data is coming our way in the form of Machine Driven data.
