• The 20th century saw a huge change in comedy. The 80’s was the dawn of films such as
Beverly Hills Cop which had a domestic total gross of $234,760,478 and Ghostbuster which
made over $229,242,989.
• The 20th century also saw the rise of comedy icons such as Charlie Chaplin, Eddie
Murphy, and Will Smith.
• There was a number of distinct comedy trends that grew in the 20th century, from clever
and witty comedy coming from Oscar Wilde’s books that became famous in the 20th
century, to a negative with some comic elements of black comedy. The mixing of other
genre’s often happens due to comedy being a large part of entertaining people.

Thief . Whereas in 1990 the films topping the box office were, Home Alone, Ghost and Dances
With Wolves. The link between the three is that ‘Home Alone’ and ‘Despicable Me 2’ are both
kids/family movies and both topped the box office which shows that that has been the most
famous comedy drama in the last 23 years.
