1. Fat Transfer
A Fat Transfer involves harvesting fat from areas of the body such as the abdomen, "love
handles," or thighs, refining the harvested fat and transferring it to areas of the face and neck.
literally, "Fat Transfer" refers to a procedure where fat from part of the body is removed,
processed, and then re-inserted back in to another part of the body. Patients interested in the fat
transfer procedure usually have some area of the body they feel would benefit from a fuller or
shapelier appearance. Utilizing existing fat from areas that could use a bit less fullness is a great
alternative to using synthetic fillers.
During the procedure, the area where the fat is harvested from is prepared in a similar way to
performing liposuction. The fat is harvested using a special suction cannula so it is not damaged.
The live fat cells are then injected in the either the breasts, buttocks, face or scarred areas using a
very fine cannula to place tiny amounts of fat to form layers which restore volume and shape.
Between 50% and 60% of the transferred fat survive. This means that at first there is a certain
amount of overcorrection, which also contributes to some of the swelling following the
procedure. Fat transfer is often performed in conjunction with other procedures such as a facetite.
Common areas for a Fat Transfer in the face include the lower eyelid boney margin, the
nasolabial folds or "smile lines," the submalar region (hollow area below the cheek bones), or the
cheek prominences. A Fat transfer has grown in popularity as they have come to recognize that
fat loss or "volume loss" is an integral part of the aging method, along with skin laxity or
wrinkling. Fat transfer can complement a face lifting procedure to give an overall more
enhanced, natural and youthful appearance.
Fat Transfer usually takes to sittings in order to increase the subcutaneous tissue where it is
injected. Common areas for fat transfer are in the upper and lower lips, laugh lines, frown lines,
and cheeks. Fat transfer is also used to fill in soft tissue defects from various traumatic injuries or
possibly even cortisone injections that cause fat atrophy in the trunk or extremities. Fat transfer is
highly successful. The only uncertainty is whether the effect can be accomplished in,, or sittings.
There is an absorption rat of anywhere from 20% to 60% of the fat that is transferred from, let's
2. say, the abdominal or hip area in to the facial area; however, a sure portion of the fat does live
forever. These are living fat cells and, whether they represent 20% or 50% of the fat that is
transferred, they will stay permanently in that location.
Fat Transfer London sessions are usually spaced months apart and, at that point in time, the
experienced physician would know that percent of the fat has survived and what portion of the
fat will have absorbed; therefore, a call is then made between the physician and the patient as to
whether any further fat transfers are indicated to get the final result.
A majority of transplanted fat is expected to survive and become permanent, effectively
increasing the volume of the cheeks, lips, temples and remainder of areas affected by aging and
fat loss. The key to successful fat transfer is the use of specially designed micro cannulas, which
transfer small parcels of fat that are more likely to survive. The harvested fat is also carefully
cleansed prior to injection. The Fat transfer is always accompanied by some degree of swelling,
however within week appearance is usually pleasing. Complete resolution of swelling may take
several months or more, however this method is gradually and usually not noticeable. At six
months, retained facial volume is thought about permanent. For more details Please
