1. Week1
08/04/19
The firstweekof my FMP startedby completingmypre-proposal,where Iexplainedmyfirstinitial
idea,andthenexplainedmythoughtprocessbehinditandhow Iwouldproduce it.AfterIcontinued
ontomy audit, and afterI startedto create a mood boardthat wouldhelpinspireme andletme
generate otherideastoinclude inmyproject.AltogetherIcreatednine differentmoodboardsto
inspire me.The moodboardshelpme todevelopmyproposal because theyinspiredme andgave
me multiple differentideasforthe magazine.Forexample,duringmyinitial planningresearchinto
differenttypesof feministmagazinesIdiscoveredadifferenttype of magazinecalled'fanzine'.This
was veryuseful,becauseIlookedthroughthe differenttypesof fanzinesanditinspiredme tocreate
a differenttype of product.IknewIwantedto create a feminismmagazine,butIwantedtoinclude
a twist,byfindingfeministfanzinestheyshowedme differentwaystopresentfeminism.Also,
throughmy moodboardsI founddifferentauthorsandphotographersthatworkinspiresand
influencesmine.Toimprove myinitial plans,Icouldhave includedmore detailsaboutthe thought
processbehindthe colourscheme moodboard, andI could've includedmore information about
feministriots/protestsbutforthe moodboardsI justwantedto include arange of picturesthat
wouldgive me the opportunitytostimulatemyownideas.
My initial plansare detailedandcontainalotof useful information.Researchingandanalysingmy
differentinfluenceswasaveryimportantstepof my initial plansbecausethe influencesinspiredme
and showedme strongexamplesof the workthatI want to create.Throughfindinginformationon
themI have a widerknowledgeaboutfeminismfromdifferentperspectives,andfromdifferent
generations.Thisknowledge will be veryhelpful forattractingawide audience tomyproduct.
EventhoughI have conducteda lotof researchonfanzines,Rupi Kaur,and@feministIstill needto
conduct more researchonmagazines.Ineedtoanalyse the layoutandstructure of a magazine,I
needtoresearchthe potential targetaudience fordifferentmagazines,Ialsoneedtoresearch
photographersandtheirwork.
Week2/3
15/04/19 - 22/04/19
I startedmy research byanalysingthree differentmagazines.Ichose three magazinesthatwere all
verydifferentandcontainedavary of differentskillsandtechniquesusedthatIcoulduse inmy own
magazine.FromresearchingthemIlearntaboutdifferentstylesmagazinesuse.Forexample,the
Dezine magazine followedaverysimple formatandusedthe magazine asa chance to justdisplay
photography,howeverthe FashionRevolutionmagazine includedarticlesandartworkbutalsoa lot
of decorationsandboarderstoentice the readers.Thishelpsme because itmade me recognisethat
if I want to keepmyreadersinterestedinthe articles,Ineededtotake inspirationfromthe Fashion
Revolutionmagazine andincludeboardersanddecorations.The secondpartof my researchwasthe
secondaryresearch,the secondaryresearchwasdifficult,andIfoundithard to thinkof different
aspectsto research.However,once Istartedwritingaboutsomething,Igotinspirationfromthem
and therefore hadmultiple differentideastowrite about.IenjoyedwritingaboutVogue vsfanzine
2. because Ithinkit wasa veryimportantpartof mymagazine projectthatI neededtoapproach,
throughmy projectI hadbeentalkingaboutthe style of magazine Iwantto create but not
specificallybeenwriting aboutwhatexactlyIwantto create and why. So,I thinkthese slideson
Vogue andfanzineshelpedme explainthe type of magazine Iwantto create and why.Italso helped
me understandwhomyaudience were andwhoIwas tryingto attract to my magazine.Aswell as
thisVogue wasinterestingtoanalyse because the researchgave me anopportunitytolookthrough
theirphotoshoots,Igottime to appreciate the waythe photographerstake theirphotos, whichis
vital to myprojectbecause Iwant to include arange of photoshoots.
AftermyVogue researchIdecidedtoinclude myresearchIconductedaboutan eventran byGirl
Gang on International Women'sday. The researchI conductedhelpedmyprojectalotbecause it
made me acknowledge whomytargetaudience was,Iwasable to see myself whattype of people
come to eventslike this, andthismade me thinkthatpeople whowouldbe interestedineventslike
thiswouldalsobe interestedinreadingthe same information.Thisresearchchangedmyapproach
to my projectbecause itslightlychangedmytargetaudience.Multiple differentareasof my
researchhave made me re-thinkmytargetaudience,e.g.the Girl Gangevent, andmyresearch
aboutwhat type of womenbuyfeministbooks.Myresearchthroughamazonand lookingatwhat
differentwomenbuydifferentbooksshowedme thatmyperspectiveaudience forthe age groupis
higherthanI firstthought.
My nextstepinmyresearchwas the primaryresearch,myprimaryresearchwasverytime
consumingbutgave me a lotof informationthatIwouldn'thave beenable toacquire withoutmy
first-handinterviews.Firstly,Iconductedasurveyaboutfeminisminthe media,Icreatedthissurvey
throughsurveymonkey,Ipassedmysurveythroughfriendsandcreatedalinkonsocial mediafor
my followerstovisitandcomplete the survey.Thiswasveryuseful asitgave me a wide range of
differentpeople'sopinions.Secondly, mynextpiece of primaryresearchwasaone on one interview
withmysister. My sisterwasthe perfectpersontointerview asshe iswithinmytargetage group,
and she isan active feminist.Iwasable tohearher thoughtsandgage the perspective of afeminist
and I throughheranswersI wasable to understandhow she felttowardsthe topicandthishelped
me recognise the type of articlesIshouldbe includinginmymagazine.
Finally, mypractical researchwasthe final partof myresearch, for me the practical researchwas the
mostinterestingbecauseitgave me the opportunitytocreate somethinganddosomethingother
than analysing.Istartedoff mypractical researchby conductingmyownphotoshoots.My
photoshootswere simple andnotoverlytime-consuming.Itooktwomodelsandphotographed
themas a still image. The photoshootgave me the chance topractice witha camera,to re-leanall
the importantsettingsonthe camera,it alsogave me an opportunitytoworkwithotherpeople and
learnhowto take control and positionthe modelsandthe backgroundsothatthe pictureswere
perfect.Itooka wide range of photos,soI had multiple similarones, butthiswasbecause Ithinkitis
betterto have more thanlessphotosto choose from.ThenI tookthese photosandusedthemin
photoshopsothat I couldeditthemindifferentways.Ispentalot of time inphotoshopapplying
differenteditstothe photossothat I couldgetthe mosteffectiveoutcome.Mythirdpiece of my
practical researchwas a practice article I wrote sothat I couldpractice mywritingskills.Itwastime
consumingtofinda subjectandthento findbackgroundinformationaboutittouse inthe article,
but itwas veryuseful because itgave me more experience andthe researchIconductedabout
writinganarticle includedalotof tips thatI can now applyto myfinal articlesmakingthemmore
successful.Myfinal practical researchpiece wasananimatedpicture Icreatedinphotoshop.This
was keytomy researchbecause Iwrote earlierinmyplanningabouthow I wantedtoexplore how
to create differentanimationslike this.I'mgladI spenttime inphotoshoplearningtoapplydifferent
3. editsandcreatinganimationsbecause if Ihadn'tthenitwould've meantIhad to take time outof my
productionweektolearnhowtouse photoshop.
Week4
29/04/19
Week4 of my final projectwasspentputtingtime intomypre-production.Pre-productionisan
opportunitytoplanthe fine detailsof mymagazine before creatingit.Pre-productionisimportant
because the planningsavesalotof time inproduction, italsomeansthat whenproductionweek
starts I knowexactlywhatIwant to do andI can efficientlystartthe productionof mymagazine
withouthavingtospendextratime thinkingaboutwhatphotosIneedto take,or how I wantthe
pagesto look.Inpre-productionIstartedbywritingaboutwhat I wasmaking,whyI was makingit,
whoit’sfor, andwhere itwill appear, asa reflectionof myprojectsoI couldstart the PowerPoint
statingclearlywhatmymagazine was.Firstly,Italkedaboutthe colourscheme Iwantedformy
magazine.Italkedindetail abouthowdifferentcolourscomplementeachother.Iexplainedhow the
coloursI use inmy magazine are importantto me because eachdifferentcolourcarriesa
subconsciousmessage thatisthereforepassedontothe reader.Analysingthe differentcolours,I
coulduse shapedmyprojecta lot because itmade me recognise thatmypagesall have different
themesandtherefore require differentcolourschemes, somymagazine won’tbe able toupholda
constantcolourscheme that runsthroughthe pages. Afteranalysingandresearchingdifferent
potential coloursIdecidedthatanimportantpart of my magazine thatneededplanningwasthe
modelsthatwouldbe available inmyphotoshoots.Iwantedtomake a detailedlistexplainingwho
wouldbe available because itwouldbe useful forme inproductionstages, knowingwhotocontact
dependingonwhethertheywere busyorwhethertheywouldn'tbe interestedintakingpart.Ialso
wrote howoldtheywere andwhat theirconnectiontome was.To make my listas efficientandeasy
to understandaspossible Iintroducedacolourscheme systemtoindicate wowouldmostlikelybe
available,greenwasmostlikelyavailable,andorange wasformodelswhomightnotbe.I includeda
range of boysand girlsbecause insome of myshootsI needvariety.
In the nextpart of my pre-productionplanItalkedaboutthe style of mydouble page spreadsand
howI planon themlooking.Due tothe amountof detailedresearchisconductedonother
magazinesIhad a clearideaof howI wantedtopresentmymagazine,withinspirationfromother
successful magazinesIhadseen.Aftertalkingaboutthe differentstylesof mypagesIdecidedto
explore differentfontsthatIcoulduse.I wantedtofinda modern,andtrendyfontthat wouldshow
the newand youngside of the magazine.I'mgladthat I lookedatdifferentfontsbecausethere are
millionsof differentfontsonthe internetandfindingafew outof the hundredsof optionsthat
wouldworkperfectlywithmystyle of magazinewasdifficult.
4. The nextpart of mypre-productionwasthe mostimportantpart, the nextstage wasplanningmy
photoshoots/double page spreads.Thispartwasthe mosttime consumingbecause Ihadto take
time andenvisage whatIwantedthe pagesto looklike.Ihad to thinkaboutthe layoutina lotof
detail, tomake the magazine lookprofessionalbuttoalsomake the magazine lookappealingand
modern.Istartedby planningmyphotoshoots.Idescribedhow Iwantedmyphotoshootstolook
and thenI includedphotostobackup mywritingandmake the descriptionclearer.Myphotoshoots
aren't complicatedandshouldbe simpletoconduct. My planningmade me acknowledge thatdue to
the simplicityof myphotoshootsIneedtomake sure thatthe photographsare perfect, for example
the camera qualityneedstobe professional andsetupproperly, andthe positioningof the photo,
the backgroundand the modelsneedtobe carefullythoughthroughtoachieve the bestphotos.
AfterI plannedmyphotoshoots,Istartedtoplanmypages.I explainedwhatIwantedtoinclude on
each slide.ThenIcreatedflatplansof all the separate pagessothat I couldhave a visual of how the
pageswouldlook.Ithinkthiswasan effective ideabecause itgave me the opportunitytoplace the
textwhere Ithoughtit fittedonthe page.Italso gave me an ideaof the space I had on a double
page spreadand howI needto planthe page, accordingly, makingsure thatI don’tplanto include
too muchtextand make the page lookcluttered. The flatplans were the mostimportantpartof the
pre-productionstage becausethe showedme thatmyideascomingtogetherwasenoughtofill
double page spreads.Theywere alsoveryimportanttothe projectbecause theysavedalotof time
that I wouldhave spenttryingtodecide how tolayouthe pagesinproduction.
For the final part of my pre-productionIcompletedaresource listsothatI knew exactlywhat
equipmentIneededtobringintothe productionweeksof myproject.Bywritingaresource listI
couldarrange to have all the equipmentIneededinpreparationof production, thisefficientlykeep
control of mytime management.Ialsocompletedacontingencyandhealthandsafetyplansothatif
I had anyproblemsthroughoutmyproject,Iwouldhave alreadyassessedthemandknow whatIcan
do to overcome themasefficientlyaspossible.
Week5.1 - production,articles
06/05/19
I plannedthatforthe firsttwodaysof productionIwouldstart bywritingsome of my articles.I
thoughtit wouldbe the best ideastowrite some articlesfirstbecause therewasnopointinstarting
to planpagesif I had no contentto puton them. Also,Iwouldn'tknow whatsizesthe paragraphs
wouldbe soI couldn'tplan mypagesproperly.Iwantedtostart the projectbyconductingmy
photoshootssothatI couldwrite the articlesthatrelatedtothe photos,Iwould've alsoknownhow
much to write accordingtowhetherIhad a lot of photosto include forarticle.Iplannedthe
photoshootsandarticlesinpre-productionsoI’m aware of the space that the articlesand
photoshootsshouldtake up.However,inproductionIlearntthatevenwithplanningthe structure
of the pagesinproductionhascompletelychangeddue tome takingmore photosthenIthoughtI
wouldandwritingmore inmy articlesthenIexpected.
I startedby writinganarticle aboutRupi Kaur, I decidedtowrite thisone firstbecause itisone of my
more simple articlesandIthoughtitwouldbe easiertostart off my writingwithanarticle I wouldn't
findtoodifficulttoease myselfintoit. The Rupi Kaurarticle waseasyto write because the article
was majorlybasedoninformationaboutthe authorandherbook.AfterI wrote the article,Ispent
time re-readingthe article andmakingsure thatitmade sense andthat itwas interestingforthe
5. reader.I alsowentbackthrough the article lookingforspellingandgrammarmistakesbecause they
wouldmake the article immediatelyunprofessional andamateur.Includingprofessionallanguage in
my articlesisveryimportantbecause Iwantthe magazine tobe interestingbutalsofactual andto
attract a more mature audience.Idecidedtomake the article 300 wordsbecause althoughanarticle
wouldusuallyinclude around500-600 wordsmydouble page spreadshave photographsandeditsto
supportthemso I can have fewerwordsinmyarticles.Ialsowant to focuson myphotographyand
editingsoI'mspendingmore time inphotoshopandconductingphotoshootsinsteadof writing
articles.Onthe Rupi Kaur double page spreadI'mincludingapoemfromone of her booksto
promote herworkso thiswill take upsome space on the pages.
AftermyRupi Kaur article I beganwritingthe witchesarticle.Thisarticletookalot longertoput
togetherandI had to conductquite a lotof researchintowitch’shistoryandhow I have associated
themwithfeminism.Iresearcheddifferentwebsitesandarticlestalkingaboutwitches.Ithenwrote
inmy ownwordsthe directlinkof sexism/feminismwithwitches.Ienjoyedwritingthisarticle
because Ifoundit interestingandIthinkthe topicwas unique andcaptivatingforthe audience. The
witch’sarticle isalsoonly300 words,and,in the article,Ihave onlygivena brief backgroundabout
the witchesbecause Idon'twant to talkaboutan irrelevanthistoryof witcheswhichwillbe boring
for myreaders.
week5.2 - photography
The secondhalf of myfirstweekinproductionwasspentconductingphotoshoots.Myfirst
photoshootIconductedwasfor mywitchdouble page spread.Iplannedtodo the photoshootina
woodedareainYork, I firstplannedtoconducttheminthe Knavesmire Woodsorinthe Museum
Gardensin Town, howeverIfoundanature reserve inmyarea nextto the Pike HillsGolf Clubwhich
was perfect forthe photoshootbecause there waswoodedareaaroundwhichwasthe right
backgroundformy witchtheme, andthe area wasisolatedthereforeIdidn'thave toworry about
the publicdisruptingmyphotoshoot.ThismeantthatIwasable to do the photoshootwithout
distractionandI could getas many photosthat I needed.
To create the rightaestheticforthe photosthere wasa lotof otherdetailsIneededtoinclude to
make the photoseffective.Firstly,Ihadto style the modelshairsothatit fitinwiththe witch
aesthetic.Ihadthe model sleepwithplaitsinherhairsowhenshe tookthemoutthe nextdaythe
hair wasslightlywavy,Ithenbraidedsmall plaitsinherhairrandomlysothat itlookedhalf done and
rough.Thisimmediatelygave heradifferentlook,itsuggestedthatshe doesn'tkeepherhairclean
and she livesoutinthe woodsunable towashor straightenit.ThenI hadto do makeuponher that
wouldsuggestthatshe wasa witch.ForthisI searcheddifferentstylesonPinterestandthere wasa
lotof differentwaysthatI couldapplymakeuptomy model,Ella, tomake herlookeffectivelylike a
witch.I couldhave appliedsubtlemakeupandthenusedphotoshoptoedititmore effects,butI
wantedtohave quite heavymakeupforthe photoshoot.Itookinspirationfromdifferentpostsand
plannedthe makeupbefore IuseditonEllafor the photoshoot.Iapplieditwithpaintbecause I
knewthatit wouldn'twashoff easily.Ichose touse blackfor the face paintto create a dark
aesthetic, butIalsoincludedblue undertonestointroduce abitof colour.,Ichose the colour blue
because the blue underthe eyesaccentuatesthe blueinElla'seyes. Finally,IneededtodressEllain
an outfitthata witchwouldstereotypicallywear.Ichose asimple blackdresswhichworked
6. effectivelybecause the simplicityof the dressdidn'tsteal attention
fromthe face paint.AfterIhad setup for the photoshoot,Iwentto
the nature reserve totake the photos.
I initiallyhadthe model standina range of differentplacesand
differentpositionssothatI wouldhave awide selectionof photosto
choose fromin the editingstage.Istartedthe photoshootwith
picturesof Ellastoodwitha backdrop of the woodsand tree
branchespositionedinfrontof her,thiscreateda rusticand earthy
aesthetic,Itookthese photoswithEllaina natural pose lookingaway
fromthe cameralike she wasn'taware it wasbeingtaken.Itook a lot
of photosfollowingthisstructure becauseIthinkitworkedwell.Ire-
createdthispicture withwhite flowershidingherface andwiththe
model lockingeye contactwiththe camerato introduce amore
intense andcreepiervibe.Itookthese photosindifferentplacesin
the nature reserve sothat I couldtake advantage of all the different
backgroundsandtake the photoswitha range of differentlighting.
AfterI hadtakenthose photos,I chose a differentangle,Ihadthe
model lie onthe flooramongstthe twigsandbranches.This
introducedanunordinaryandstrange effectonthe photoswhich
obviouslyworked well withthe themeof the pages.Iaskedthe model
to pull differentexpressions,Iwantedone withhereyesclose,then
one openand thenwithherscreaming.Ihad plannedthese before
because IknewwhateditsI wantedtoapplyto these photoslaterin
photoshop.Itooka lot of differentphotoswithdifferentlightingsoI
couldgetthe mostout of the photoshoot.Atthe endof the
photoshootIalsotook some close-upshotsof the makeupandof hereyes.
The nextday I plannedtoconductmy secondphotoshoot.FormysecondphotoshootIbookedout
the studiophotographyroomat college.Ididthisbecause forthese photosIwantedawhite
backdropand inthe photographystudioIhadaccess to white bleachlightswhichmake the resultof
the photographsa lotclearerand more professional.Ihaven'tplannedtouse the studioforany
otherof myphotoshootsbecause Iwantto have active backgroundsforthem. The photography
studioplayedamassive partinthe productionof my photosbecause theymade the photossomuch
clearerand if I hadtrieddo it at home itwouldn'thave beenaseffective.
To setup for thisphotoshootIdidn'thave to planas much as I didfor the witchphotoshootbutI
had to be more organisedbecause inthe witchphotoshootI didn'thave atime limitsoI couldspend
as much time asI neededsettingupandpositioningthe model.Butinthe studio,Ihad an allocated
time slotbefore the nextstudentwasusingit,soIhad to be efficient. The onlypropsIneededfor
the photoshootwasblackpaintand pens. Before the photoshootIhadplannedthe wordsthatI was
7. goingto write onmy model andwhere Iwas goingto write them.Once Igot intothe studiomy
model changedintoabandeau, whichisa small topthat exposedhershoulderssowiththe right
camera angle itwouldlooklike the model wasn'twearingclothes.Itwasan importantpartof the
shootfor the model tolooknakedbecause the meaningbehindthe photoshootisthatshe is
exposedtoall the wordsthatshe hasbeenlabelledforbeingafeminist, thatthe model isn'thiding
behindanything,herbare skinsymbolizeshervulnerabilityandshowsshe isdefencelesstothe
words.I wrote the wordson the model usingpenandpaintbecause Iwantedto make itlooklike
differentpeoplehadwrote itonher andto introduce a more amateurDIY aesthetictothe
photoshoot.Aswell asthese detailsIhadthe model wearminimal makeupandnatural un-styled
hair to supportthe nakedandnatural vibes.
I startedthe photoshootbytakingpicturesof the hands,I had writtenwordsoneachfinger,Iwrote
the wordsin a small size withapento make the writinglookdelicate.Ipositionedthe hand
delicatelyreachingout,sothatyou couldsee all the wordswritten.AndIpositionedthe hand,soit
didn'tlookbulkyandheavy,butit lookedgentleandsoft,creatingacalm aesthetictocontrastwith
the aggressive wordswritten.Itookthe photosof the handat differentanglesthatlookedeffective
but there were onlyafewanglestochoose fromthat showedall the wordsonthe hand. The next
photosI tookwere froman eye level view of the modelsface andchest.Istartedby takingsimple
photoswiththe model lookingintothe camera, thiswastogive the model afearlessandpowerful
look, because despiteall the labelsshe'sbeengivenshe isincontrol andlooksat the camerato
asserther authority.Ialsotookphotoszoomedinon herchestand shoulderssothatI couldget a
clearshot of the words.Aswell asthat I tooksome photos fromthe front angle withEllalooking
away fromthe camera fora more natural and more casual photo. My nextselectionof photoswas
on Ella'sback, onher back I wrote 'all we want isequality'with'equality'incapital letters. These
photosare goingto go lastinthe selectionof photos, withthe range of wordsonher bodyleading
up to thisstatement.Withthe photosfromthe backI had the model positioneddifferently, andI
had herholdherhair up withherhandsand gave her a strong, straightposture whichIthink
successfullyintroducedindependentandsturdyattributestothe photos.Itooka range of different
close shotsof the model tomake sure I tookfull advantage of the photoshoot.
Week5.3
The last twodays of my firstweekwere spentsortingoutmyphotosfrommyphotoshootsandthen
editingtheminphotoshop.Istartedthe processbygoingthroughall mywitchphotos,I had taken
96 photosinthe photoshootandIhad to go througheach one and decide whetherIwouldtake it
intothe editingstage. While lookingthroughthe photosIcouldwhichoneswere more successful
and why.It wasuseful tolookthroughthembecause Ilearntwhere myphotographyskillsneeded
improvingandthismeantIcouldacknowledge whereinthe future Ineedtofocuson to make the
outcome of the photosas successful aspossible.Forexample, some of the photoshave turnedout
blurry, thisisbecause Iam constantlymovingthe cameratoget differentanglesbutinthe future I
needtotake time andfocuson the photoI am takinginsteadof rushingtotake the nextphoto. This
occurredmore inthe witch’sphotoshootbecause Iwasmovingarounda lotmore.However,despite
thisa lot of my photoswere still successful andIchoose multiplethatIwantedto take into the
editingstages.
I startededitingthe witchphotosfirst.Ichose the three photosof Ellalayingonthe floorwiththree
differentface expressions.Ihadto choose three thatwere all takenat the exactsame angle, sothey
didn'thave differentlighting.Firstly,Iapplieddifferentfilterstothe photosto give the photosa
more grunge,dark effect.Iusedaneffectcalled'dramaticcool'.Thiseffecttookall the darker
undertonesinthe photoandenhancedthemtoa darkercolour. So, the greenleavesinthe photo
8. were turnedintoa bluey,mossycolour,andthe model’shairchangedfromavibrantgingertoa
dark blue colour. However, the effectdidn'tenhancethe skin, sothe skinnexttothe dark blue hair
nowlooksa lot palerthanbefore,whichfitsperfectlywiththe lookIwasaimingfor.Thiseffectwas
perfectformy witchtheme andmade the photosI lotmore effective. Then,Istartededitingon
photoshop,Itookthe three photosand hadthemon separate layers,Ilinedthe three photosupso
that theywere overlappingandthe three faceswere linedupnexttoeachother, thenIusedthe
lassotool to highlightthe sectionof the twophotosoneitherside thatoverlappedeachother.Once
I had done that,I tookthe opacitydownto 45% on bothphotosso theysubtlyblendedinwiththe
backgroundon the mainphoto.Havingthe opacitydownmade the editlookseamlessbecausethere
were norough cornerson the edit.Iwas happywiththe outcome of my editandit workedexactly
the way I had plannedinmypre-production.Ithinkthe paintingonherface reallymade the photo,
the makeupwasn'toverthe top and dramaticand the shapingof the moonsandcircleswas
symmetrical andstylish. The editingIappliedmakesthe photosasequence, beginning withthe eyes
closed,thenopeningthem,andthenscreaming.The photosandeditare unique andstandsout
againststereotypical magazine photos.
Then, neededone more photo/editforthe secondpage of the double page spread. So,Ilookedback
throughmy photosto choose the secondone.Ididn'twant to choose anythingthatwould
overpowerthe firsteditbecause Iwantedthe page tolookskilfullyputtogether,Ididn'twantitto
lookcrowdedandoverpowering,soIwantedto choose a more simple andsubtle photo. There was
a lot of photosthat I wantedtochoose to include butIdecidedontwo,I chose one whichwasa
close shotof mysisters’eye andherface paint.I chose thisone to editbecause Ithoughtthe photo
was reallygoodquality, the focusof the camerawasfocussedonthe model andthe fine detailson
herface,for example,the differentcoloursinhereye andherseparate hairs.Ialsolike thisphoto
because mymodel hasveryblue eyesandIthinkthe strong blue isunique andthe wayit standsout
againstthe black andblue face paintis majestic.Iwasthinkingaboutapplyingthe same 'dramatic
cool' effecttothe photoand thenleavingitwithouteditingbutmymagazine isheavilyinfluencedby
edgyand modernediting,soitremainsinterestingandunique.So,Iaddedthe effectandthentook
the photointophotoshop.Iduplicatedthe photothree times,soIhadthree differentversionsof the
photo,thenI overlappedthem,andIappliedthe effect.Thiseffectheightenedthe blue tonesfrom
the photoand enhancedthem,Ithoughtwiththe overlappingphotosandthe effecthighlighting
otherparts of the photowiththe same blue colourlookedveryeffective butstillwasn't
overpowering.However,Iwasdisappointedthatduringthe editingthe effecttookthe blue outof
the model’seye, butIpreferthe editwiththe effectappliedandthinkthatthe greyeye suitsthe
witchtheme more thanthe blue eye wouldof.
AfterI finishededitingthe witchphotos,Istartedtoeditthe photoswiththe negative feminist
wordswrittenonherbody.DuringthisphotoshootIonlytook 47 photos,soI didn'thave as many to
lookthrough.EventhoughI didn'thave as manyto lookthroughit wasstill a time-consuming
processto lookthroughthe photosand choose whichwere successfulenoughtomake ittothe next
stage. For thisphotoshootIknewIwantedto include more photosbecause withthisone the photos
were supportingthemselves,theydidn'thave anarticle tostandwiththem.I choose 7 photosall
together,Idecidedonthe onesthatwere the bestqualityandthe photosthat carriedthe most
meaningandwouldevoke the mostemotionfromthe reader. Before editingIknew Iwantedto
applysome effectstothe photostomake themmore interesting.IdecidedthatformyeditsI
wantedtodraw simple line drawingsof the outlinesof the modelsfeatureswithawhite pen.I
decidedonthiseditbecause thislookisaverymodernstyle andhasa DIY, effortlessaesthetic.Also,
9. I thoughtthiswouldn'ttake all the attentionawayfromthe detailsinthe photos,butitwouldbe
enoughtokeepthe readerinterested.Tocreate these edits,Iopenedthe photosindividuallyin
photoshop,Istartedbyincreasingthe saturationof the photos.Thiswasbecause due to the angling
of the camerathe exposure of the photoswasn'tcorrectinrelationtothe lighting.Thismade the
photoslooklighter,soinphotoshopIeditedthe saturation,enhancingthe darkertonesinthe
photosto make the hair more gingerandthe skinslightlydarker.AfterIhadeditedthe colourson
the photos,I neededtostartdrawingthe outlinesonthe photos.Iwantedtomake thislookas
effectiveandprofessionalaspossiblesoinsteadof drawingthe linesonusingthe curseronthe
mouse I decidedtouse a digital drawingpadwhichIconnectedtothe back of mycomputer. The
drawingpadwas easyto use, itcame witha penand whenIdrew on the pad it wouldshow onthe
computerscreen.Izoomedinto the photoso that I couldfollow the linesof the face carefullyand
precisely.Idecidedtouse a white penbecause whiteisanatural and subtle colourbutalsostood
out well againstthe skin.Ithoughtaboutusinga pale pinkcolour, butI wantedtokeepitsimple and
not cluttered.Iappliedthiseditonall myphotos,Iusedthe same pensize andcolourto keepa
consistentstyle throughall the photos.AfterIhadappliedthe outlines,Iwantedtoinclude more
coloursto bringsome more energytothe photos.A wayto include photosandto keep the photos
stylishwastoinclude overlappingboxesoverthe photos.Ithentookthe opacitylevelsdownto45%
on the boxessoyoucouldstill see the photosthrough.Tomake sure the photosstill looked
consistentIdecidedtodoa box on each photothat were all the same colours.Ichose a lightgreyfor
the box because the colourisn'ttoo boldor loud.I thenincludedanotherbox thatoverlappediton
each editwithadifferentcolour.Ichoose amixture of brightcoloursthatwouldhighlightasection
of the photo.
Week6.1
13/05/19
To start off the secondweekof productionIbeganby conductinganotherphotoshoot.Istartedthe
planningforthisphotoshootatthe beginningof the firstweekof production.ThenIspentMonday
doingfurtherplanningandconductingthe shoot.The daystartedbyplanningthe differentshoots.I
spenttime drawingflatplanstosee howI shouldtake the photos, bycreatingthe flatplansitmade
the photoshootmore efficientbecauseIalreadyknew how totake the photoswiththe bestangles
to be most effective. Also, bycreatingflatplansitmade me incontrol, insteadof startedtothe
photoshootwithoutknowingwhatIwasdoingI knew exactlywhattodo andhow longitwouldtake
me to do it.Once I hadmade my detailedplansIhadto go and buythe equipmentandpropsI
neededforthe shoot.Forthe shootI neededarange of differentflowersanddifferentcoloured
eyeshadow.Iwenttoa flowershopsothatI could personallychooseeachindividual flower.I
wantedtochoose flowersthatwere vibrantandcolourful,thatwouldpickupwell onthe camera.I
alsowantedto choose bigflowerssotheywouldbe the centre of the photoandnot justa prop.I
decidedtobuya sunflower,apurple flower,aredrose and an orange flower.Ithenpickedflowers
withsimilarshadesandcoloursfrommygarden.Also,forthe shootI decidedtochange the model’s
eyeshadowdependingonwhatflowershe washolding.Ithoughtthiswouldbe subtle buteffective
for the shoot.I alreadyhaddifferentshadesof eyeshadow to use forthe shoots.
ThenI startedthe shoot at 5 o clock, thiswas the perfecttime because itgave me the whole dayto
planbut there wasalsoenoughdaylighttomake the photosclear. For the photoshootIusedmy
10. gardenas a backdrop.Idecidedtouse my gardenbecause the sunlighthitsitreallywell,andmy
gardenhas a lot of differentbushesandtreesthatcan be usedas the backdrop.Thiswas alsoa good
settingforthe photoshootbecause bydoingitinmygarden I couldconductit at any time,I didn't
have the addedriskof the publicgettinginthe way.
The photoshootwassimple buttime
consuming.Ipositionedmymodel inthe
gardenand once I had takenenoughphotos,Ichangedthe flowerandtookmore.
Overall the photoshootwentwell, andIwas pleasedwithmostof the photos.Duringthe
photoshootIlearntthat the positioningof the camerawas veryimportant.Thisisbecause
dependingonwhere the camerawaspositionedthe lighthitthe photodifferently. So,insome shots
the lighthitsthe photoelegantlyandmakesthe photolookputtogetherandtakenwithprecision.
However,if the anglingof the camerawasoff thenthe leavedwouldblockthe lightingandmake the
photodarker. So, once I had figuredoutthe perfectangle,Imade sure thatI keptthe camera in the
same position, andIfollowedthe sunbecause the sungave myphotosaclear, summeryfinish. For
example,onthe left,triedtotake some photosfrommyfrontgardenfora varietyof pictures,but
due to the hedge behindblockingthe sunthe photohada darkand slow-qualityeffect.Also,I
realisedthatthe model Iwasusingand the backdropI wantedmeantthatthe photohad to be taken
froma highangle, tobe most effective. So,Isetthe tripodat the highestsettingto geta headon
viewof mymodel. However, the tripodwastootall forme,so insteadof juststandingtall andnot
beingable tocompletelyseethe photosIgota little stool tostandonso that I couldsee the pictures
clearly.Whentakingthe photos,Imade sure that I tooksome off-guardphotosaswell,thisissothat
I couldhave a range of differenttypesof photostoinclude inmyphotoshoot. Also, because Ilike
off-guardphotosbecause theygive anatural andcare-free aesthetic,whichsuitedperfectlywiththe
nature and earthyvibe thatmy flowershootwasgiving. However, before the shootIknew itwas
goingto be difficulttohave the flowersinmymodels’mouth, because the taste wasn'tnice.I
decidedtotake the photosmostefficientlyIwouldhave the model have the flowersinhermouth
for at least5 shotsand thenhave a glassof waternextto herso if she neededtowashthe taste
away itwas available toher.Althoughthisaddedextratime ontothe shootitwasthe mosteffective
waybecause itgave the model amore positive attitude tothe shoot, meaningthe photoswere
more effective.Aftertakingall the photosItookthemto my computerto decide whichoneswere
the most successful.Ilookedatthe photosimmediatelyaftertakingthem becauseif Ihadwaitedtill
the nextday andfoundout that none of themwere usable itwouldbe more difficulttorecreate the
photos, andmore time efficienttore-take the photosthe same day.ThenI lookedthroughthe
photosand chose the mostsuccessful onesformymagazine.
Week6.2
11. On the Tuesday14th of May it was mysecondday of my secondweekof production, andIhad my
camera forone more day,and the weatherwas20 degrees,soIdecidedconductanotherone of my
photoshoots, because if Ihadn'tI wouldhave tobookout cameraequipmentagainandthenwaitfor
anotherdry day.I wasn'tplanningtotake the photosthisearly, butI wantedtotake advantage of
the weather, the weatherisanimportantfactorof my photoshootsbecause the sungivesthe
imagesa brightand cleareffect. The effectof the sunimmediatelyradiatesenergyandhappiness
ontothe photo.Forthe photoshootIneededaplainwhite topwith'thisiswhata feministlookslike'
wrote on.There was a bigmovementinthe news where theyphotographedalotof people wearing
topslike thistopromote feminism.Thisphotoshootwasverysuccessful anddrew alotof attention
to feminism.So,Ithoughtitwouldbe effectiveif Icreatedmyownversion.Idecidedtowrite the
statementonmyself tosupportmyDIY, casual aesthetic.Icontacteda varietyof people Iknow in
the morningand plannedtimestomeetthem.Ihadto contact bothboysand girls,to show thata
feministcanbe eithergender.However,itwasmore difficulttofindboyswhowere willingtobe in
the photoshoot.Because foralot of boys theywouldbe judgedforwearingatopsayingtheywere a
feminist,luckily,Ihave verymature friendswhoare all feminists,soalthoughIworriedthiswouldbe
a problem,inthe enditwas fine.However,itwasquite difficulttofindtoomanywillingmodels
because the photoshootcanbe awkwardfor people, lookingintothe cameraandposingisn'teasy
for everyone.
I conductedthe photoshootoutside college becausethere wasabusyatmosphere withpeople
walkingpast,andthiswas the settingIwantedformy photos,tosuggesta casual setting,insteadof
a more restrictedbackdropmakingthe photoshootloose it'sspontaneousandrelaxedaesthetic.The
photoshootwassuccessful, andthe pictureswere clear.Iaskedthe modelstoactnatural,and
askingthemto smile/laugh,thiswasbecausealotof myphotoshootshave includedthe modelswith
serious, straightfaces,Idon’tregretthatbecause theyare relevantforthe article butI thoughtto
include some range andto have a more lightheartedarticle itwouldfitthe magazine nicely.Iam
pleasedwiththe outcome of the photos;however, mymodelsdidn'twanttokeepthe t-shirtonfor
too long,andtherefore Ididn'thave a lot of time tore-take photos,Ionlyhadthe opportunityto
take two photosof each model. If Icouldre-shootthe photoshootIwouldprobablyconductitata
latertime, because mymodelswere shydue tothe amountof people thatwere walkingpast, and
althoughthe backgroundpeople addedtothe scene Ithinkitwouldhave beenmore effective if I
couldhave justgot more shoots. However,if Iconducteditat a differenttime,Iwouldn'thave been
able to getin contact withasmany people because theywould have beeninlessons.Forthe
photoshootIusedan extra-large topsothatit wouldfitall mymodels, althoughthe shirtmightof
lookedtoobigon some modelsI’mgladIusedthissize because the facteveryone wearsthe same
top helpssupportthe ideathateveryone isequal andbeingable toshare the topbetweenpeople
showstogethernesswitheveryone.
Afterthe photoshootIwentback tolookthroughall myphotos,fromlookingthroughthemI
decidedthatforthe bestoutcome of the double page spread thatI shouldtake more photos, this
was because althoughIwashappywiththe photosI tookI wantedto have the freedomtochoose
froma range of photosandwiththe last photoshootIdidn’ttake enough. So,Itooksome people in
my classand usedthem as modelsforthe restof my shoot.Thistime I wentto a quieterplace so
that I couldtake the photoswithlessdistractionsfromthe public.Thisshootwasmore successful,I
had lessmodels, sothe shootwasquicker, andthe secondtime doingitIhad experience abouthow
to take the photosmost efficiently. The modelsIusedthe secondtime were people inthe same
classas me,his wasa benefitbecause theyappreciate the importance of the soottomy projectand
12. were veryprofessional.Inthe secondshootIwasable to take multiple photos.AfterIhad takenmy
final photos,Iwentto mycomputerto uploadthemall again,I lookedthroughthe photosandhad
the advantage of choosingthe bestshotsout of 31 insteadof only14. So,althoughitwas time
consuming,I'mgladthat I wentback andconducteda secondphotoshoot.
Week6.3
After,Ihad finishedthe twophotoshootsthatIplannedtoconductthisweekI decidedtohave aday
for the writtenside of myproject, andto planand create some double page spreads.Ialreadyhad
some articlesandphotoshootspreparedsoIthoughtitwouldbe an appropriate time toputthe
articlesandphotoshootstogetherusingInDesign.InDesignisaprogramme thatI can use to create
the double page spreads.Ihave previouslyworkedwithInDesignandIfindthe software difficultto
understand.Inlightof thisI thoughtitwouldbe a valuable use of mytime towatch some short
YouTube videosexplainingthe basictoolsonInDesigntogive me aheadstart. The videos Iwatched
were all veryuseful,andtheyonlytook20 minutestowatchthem.Afterwatchingthe videos,I
concludedthatI woulduse Photoshopformostof the editingandthenonlyuse InDesignforthe
placementof the articlesandpictures.
I startedby creatingthe witchesdouble page spread,Ihada roughideaof how I wantedthe page to
lookdue to my planninginpre-production,Iamso grateful forthe time I tookplanningthe page
because itmade me create the page on InDesignsomuchfaster.I took the articlesandphotosand
copiedthe same basicstructure as the flat plan.Itlookeddifferentonthe computerandIchangeda
fewthingstomake the page lookmore professional, butIwasstill happywiththe outcome. To
create the page professionally Icreatedguidelinesforthe page soI couldmake sure all the articles
and photoswere inthe rightproportionandsymmetrical toeachother.Thiswas importantforthe
photosbecause whentheywere inline itmade the magazine lookmore puttogether, but itwas
more importantforthe articlesbecause articlesinmagazinesalwaysfollow aspecificstyle.Forthe
page I followedasimplisticstructure because the editscanbe overpoweringsoIdidn’twantthem
to overpowerthe page andmake the page lookamateur.
AfterI finishedmywitch’spage,Istartedtowrite an article formy nextdouble page spread.I
decidedtowrite the article because recentlyIhave beendoingalotof practical research.Istartedto
write the article aboutfeministthoughts. The feministthoughtsarticle isanarticle where Iwrite
short articlesaboutdifferentfeministthoughts.InmyplanningIhaddifferentideasforwhatto
write aboutinthe article.Iwantedtodo 4 shortarticles,Ithink4 isthe perfectamountbecause I
coulddo around300 wordsfor eacharticle, makingthe article longenoughtomake good,
interestingpointsbutalsonottoolongfor the readerto get bored.Also,4articlesgive me a range
of 4 differenttopicsmeansthatif areaderwasn't interestedinone of them, there'sstill 4other
optionsforthem.I wantedthe articlestobe relevantandmodern,andalsointerestingandeye
opening.Idecidedonthe topics;the paygap, the stigmaof Man hating,Rape Culture,andThe
13. Headless Womenconcept.I chose these topicsbecause Ithinktheycanbe enjoyable andinteresting
to read,but alsoaddressingseriousmatters.Before writingthe articles,Iconductedresearchsothe
articleswere factual,Ialsowantedtomake sure all mypointswere backedup to keepthe articles
professional.Forthe style of the writingIdecidedtowrite the article withaninformal, personal style
of writing.Ithoughtthiswouldbe the bestwayto relate withmyreadersandmake the articles
easierandmore interestingto read.
Week6.4
The nextday of productionwasspentinPhotoshopstartinganew double page spread.Istartedto
create animatedfiguresformy'Who SaidWhat Article'.Thisdouble page spreadisalight-hearted
article highlightingDonaldTrumpandall the sexistthingshe says. The article isintendedtobe
comedicwithfunnyaspectsbutalsousedtoappreciate whatan anti-feministhe is.DonaldTrumpis
knownformultiple things,one of his'quirks'ishisconstantsexualisation,anddegradationof
women.Ithoughtmy magazine wouldn'tbe complete withoutanarticle highlightinghow money
and powercan letyouachieve anything. So,Ithoughta light-hearted,andfunwayto do thiswasto
create an interactive page andengage the readerswastointroduce a game-likepage.Iplannedto
have differentfeministandanti-feministquotesfromdifferentcelebritiesonone side of the page,
and thenhave the celebritieswhosaiditina differentorderonthe otherside.Thisletsthe readers
guesswhichcelebritysaidwhat. However, the twistwill be that3/6 quoteswill all be fromDonald
Trump, and thenthe other3 will be inspirationfeministrole models, the opposite of DonaldTrump.
Thiswill hopefullyshow the extreme differencesbetweenmodernandempoweringwomenwithan
out of date sexistman.ExposinghowtrulydisgustingDonaldTrumpis.
I wantto include photosonall my pagesto make theminteresting, howeverIobviouslydidn'thave
the opportunitytotake picturesof any celebritiessoIthoughttomake the page original Iwould
create cartoon versionsof the celebritiesonPhotoshop.Iknew Iwantedtocreate a page with
animationslike thisinmyresearchandtherefore Ilearnthow tocreate themduringmyresearch
stagesto make my productionas efficientaspossible. If youknow how tocreate the editsitisn't
difficult, butitistime consuming.Ichose the celebritiescarefullybecause Ineededtomake sure
theyhad an inspirational quote, butIalsoneededtouse celebritiesthatwouldbe easily
recognisable asacartoon edit.DonaldTrumpwas easybecause he hasa verydistinctive look,I
choose MileyCyrusbecause she isa strongfeministandshe alsohasa distinctive smile.ThenI
decidedtohave an editof AmySchumerbecause Iespeciallylikedaquote thatI foundfromher,
alsoI thinkshe has a unique lookthatwouldmake the cartoonobviousitwasher.I'm goingto have
theirnameswrittenunderneaththeirphotosanyways,butthe photoswouldlookmosteffective if
the theylookedmostlike the celebrity.Istartedbycreatingthe editof Donal Trump. To do thisI
openedthe photoof DonaldTrumpon photoshopandthentookthe shape tool and clickedthe
'ellipse'tool, thenItookthe curser to the shape that I wantedtocopy first, forexample if Iwas
creatinga shape for the head,I wouldmake the shape the assimilartothe headshape as I could,
thenI wouldgoto 'edit'and then'transform',then'warp' thisgivesme 6 differentedgesof the
shape whichI can curve roundto fit the shape of the headexactly. So,the processiseasyand
simple, butitisjusttime consuminghavingtodothisfor eachshape on the picture. Then, toget the
perfectcolourI usedthe tool to pickup the colourand thenfilledthe shape usingthe paint bucket
tool. The photocomestogetherwhenall the shapescome togetherandstartto resemble the photo.
14. I decidednottodo manyfine detailsonthe picturesbecause Ithinkthe simple-cartoonstyle looked
effectiveandsmallerdetailslike eyesare alot harderto copy,so I thinkitwould've made the
pictureslesslike the celebrities.AfterIhadfinishedthe edits, tointroduce aplayful andcomedic
side Idecidedtoadd little doodlestothe picturestogive the readersaclue to whichquote wasfrom
who.On the picturesof DonaldTrump,I addeddevil hornsanda devil tails, inaredpen.I drew the
pencil onina simple andjuvenile waytomake itlooklike someonehaddrew overthe photo. Then
on the picturesof AmySchumer and MileyCyrusI drew angel wingsandlove hearts.
I spentthe day creatingthese edits,Iampleasedwiththe editsandhow theylookbecause Ithink
the block,boldcolourslookoriginal andcreative,whichare twoveryimportanttraitsformy
magazine.Ienjoyedcreating the editsandchoosingdifferentfeaturesfromthe celebritiestoinclude
to make the
editslook
distinctively
like
themselves.
Week7.1
20/05/19
I startedmy thirdweekof productionbycreatinganadvertfor the magazine.Iwantedto include an
advertbecause includinganadvertcuts the magazine upand letsthe readertake a breakfromthe
articles. Also, anadvertmakesthe magazine alotmore professional andmore realisticbecause all
publishedmagazineshave advertssponsoringthemorfeaturing.Ihadplannedtomake anadvert
featuringanewcocktail,I originallyplannedtocreate a drinkadvertbecause Ithoughtit wouldbe
an easyand effectiveadtomake.I createda flatplanfor the advertand had plannedwhatIwas
goingto write forit. However, inthe middle of productionIdecidedtocreate adifferentadvert,I
wantedtofeature an advertthat fitinwithmy theme andcomplimentedthe magazine.Ithought
that if I includedanadvertabouta drinkit wouldlookforcedandoutof place withthe magazine. So,
I decidedtocreate an advertabouta charitycalled,@@@,the charity bringsawarenesstosea
pollution.Idecidedtocreate an advert featuringthischaritybecause Ithoughtitwasmore in
keepingwithmymagazine becausebothare aboutspreadingawarenessaboutimportantissues.I
thinkthe twotopicscomplementeachotherwell,Ialsothinkbydoinganadvertaboutsea pollution
it keepsaserioustone.
So,for the advertI neededapicture to take up the page, and as I wasn'tgoingto be able to take any
picturesof seapollutionmyself,Idecidedtocreate ananimatedpicture usingphotoshop.Myidea
for the advertwasto have a whale jumpingoutof the seaand insteadof the half of the whale that
was still underwaterthere wouldbe litterfromthe oceanwhichwasinthe shape of the restof the
whale’sbody.Icreatedthisusingthe same methodthatI didto create the DonaldTrump edit,by
takingthe phototo photoshopandthenusingthe eclipse shape tool totryand thenapplyingthe
warp transformedittoeditthe phototo make it the same shape as the one on the photo.I usedthe
same level of detail forthe editasI didforthe DonaldTrumpone because I thinkthatit looked
effective.Icopiedthe basicshapesof the whale andincludedenoughshapessothatitwasobvious
whatit was.I thentook a picture fromthe internetof seapollutionandplacedintothe same file
withthe whale edit, thenIputthe picture overthe bottomhalf of the whale.ThenIusedthe lasso
15. tool and circledthe bitof the picture thatI wantedto cut out,I zoomedintothe picture sothat I
couldsee exactlywhere Ineededtocut the object, tomake it fitwiththe whale andlooklike itwas
the rest of the body. This wasdifficulttocreate because itwashard tomake the bottomhalf of the
whale lookprofessionhowever,IthinkIcreateditas well asI could've.Also,itwasreallydifficultto
make the waterlookeffective, because waterhasa lotof differentshadesof coloursanda ripple
effect, whichisveryhardto create usingsimple shapes. The style of the editingissimplisticsoit
wouldlookoutof place and randomif I suddenly createdadetailededitforthe water, butwithoutit
ishard to tell whatit is.Then,to complete the advertandmake itmore professionalandrealisticI
neededacharitythat the advertwas sponsoring,Ialsoneededawebsiteforreadersatsearch,and a
catchy sloganforthe ad.I was goingto create my owncharitycalled' Love Our World anduse a
double page forthe advert,I wasplanningonhavingthe whale page the same andthenhavinga
secondpage I tooka picture of the Earth from the internet andcut outa love heart, howeverIwas
findingitdifficulttocutout a neatheart, the heartsI keptcuttingweren'tprofessional enoughfor
the magazine soI decidedtojustfinda charitythat alreadyexisted.Ifoundawebsite/charityonline
and decidedtouse thatfor the advert, thenI chose a verypopularand widelyusedsloganforthe
advert,"Re-duce,Re-use,Re-cycle,Re-peat".Ichose thissloganbecause itisshortandsnappy,it
simplifiesthe entire processmakingitsoundeasyandmore obtainable forreaderstocomplete.I
useda boldfontfrom 'Dafonts.com'called'Lemon/Milk'italics.
I was veryhappywiththe outcome because Ithink
the advertlooksrealistic,likeone youwouldfind
ina magazine,ithasa simplisticstylewhichmakes
it effective andbold,hopefullymakingitstandout
to the reader.I'm verygladthat I foundthe time
inproductionto create it.It alsogivesthe
magazine more widthwithoutanotherfeminist
article.
Creating/planningthe advertonlytook anhour anda half so I hadmore time inthe dayto complete
otherpagesinthe magazine.Because Iwashalfwaythroughthe project,Idecidedtolookbackat all
my pagesandadd any finishingtouchestomake the articlesasgoodas theycan be.So,I startedby
alteringmy'FlowerPower'double page spreads.tobeginwithIchangedthe colourof the font for
the title,Iuseda colourdrop tool inphotoshootandchose greencoloursfromthe bushesinone of
my photos.Ithoughtthiswouldmake the page flow more andlookmore put together.ThenI
16. decidedtogive the page an edgiervibe Iturnedthe 'power'inthe title upside downparalleltothe
'flower'tomake it looklike the wordswere mirroringeachother. Then,Iwantedtoinclude
somethingforthe backgroundsonthe pagesbecause the photoswere soexoticandcolourful and
thendisplayedonaplainwhite background.Ihadthe ideato include paintsplodgesonthe backof
the pages,I searcheddifferentpaintsplodgesongoogle images,Idid
this,so I hadbackgroundknowledge of whatlookssuccessful.Ithen
had the opportunitytocreate the backgroundon photoshoporto
create it myself usingpaints.Idecidedtouse paintsbecause alotof
my workhas alreadybeencreatedonPhotoshopandIthink the
colourswouldlookbetteronpaint.So,I usedwatercolourpaints
because the colourshow upthe brightestandare easiertoblend.
Thendependingonwhichpage,Iwascreatingthe backgroundfor I
wouldinclude adifferentrange of colours.Istarted the picture by
paintingplainwateronthe page and thenaddingdifferentcoloursto
the page,puttingplainwateronthe page iseffectivebecause it
meansthat whenyouaddothercoloursthe coloursruninto each
other,creatinga casual and artisticaesthetic.ThenItookthe paint
brushand useda splattingmotionatthe page to create paintdropson the picture.
Thismade the picture lookmore detailed.Foreachpage I useda differentcolour
scheme dependingonwhichflowerthe model washoldingin eachphoto.For
example, forthe firstpage the model washoldingorange flowers,soIusedthe
coloursorange,redand yellow forthe background.AfterIhadfinishedcreatingthe
backgrounds,Iletthe pagesdry, thenI scannedthe photosintomycomputer,and
tookthemto Photoshop.Iimmediatelytookthe photosto
Photoshopbecause Iknew thatforthemto be as successful asthey
could've been,Ineededtoeditthe photos.Istartedthe editingmy
takingout the background,due tothe beginningwaterlayerIputon
the picture the backgroundwas an off-white colourthatlookeddirty
and unprofessional,soinPhotoshopIusedalassotool whichcut
aroundthe paintsplodgesandreplacedthe backgroundwithaclear
white one.Aswell asgettingridof the oldbackgroundthis
successfullymade the original coloursinthe picture standoutmore.
Afterthat I startedto editthe coloursaturationonthe pictures,
althoughIlike the coloursthe picturesonthe computerlookeddull
and lackingenergy.So,Iwentinto'adjustments'andthento
'brightness/contrasts'where Iplayedwiththe differentlevelsuntil
the photoappearedbrighterandwithmore colour,thenI wentto
'exposure'where Ichangedthe exposurelevels,thismade the coloursinthe photowarmer.I
appliedthese editstoall the picturesandthenexportedthemandplacedtheminmydouble page
spread, puttingthemona separate layerbehindall the featuresonthe page.
17. AftercompletingmyFlowerPowerdouble page spread,Istartedtolookat my 'Naked'double page
spreads,Iwantedto add little detailsbutwantedtokeepthe same simplisticstyle of the page.I
decidedtomake the page complete Iwouldjusttake the drawingpentool anddraw little lines
aroundthe page, thiswaseasy, verytime efficientandmade the page lookfinished. Also, tofinish
the page I chose a newfontfor the title of the page that wasmore suitedtothe article,Ilookedon
Dafontswebsite andfoundafontcalled'false advertising'.
Week7.2
I had spentthe daybefore completingpreviouslyunfinishedpagessotodayI wantedtospendmy
time creatingone of my articles,Idecidedtocreate my'feministthoughtsarticle'.Thisarticle isone
of myfavourite pages, because ithasthe mostwritingandI spenta long-time planningwhatto
include inthe article andfindingresearchtosupportthe article.So,I
wantedtomake sure that the page was good.I decidedtomake myown
backgroundforthe page inphotoshop,forthe backgroundI tookinspiration
fromdifferentphotosIsawonInstagram, the style isto have a sentence or
wordsrepeatedwithoutanyspacesona vibrantcolourbackground.The
wordswrittenusuallyhave some importance andrelevance.So,formy
feminismthoughtspage Iwantedtocreate a backgroundlike that,Iwentto
photoshopandtooka rectangle shape thattookupthe whole page and
thentooka boldfontfromDafontscalled'Bebe Neus'andI useda white
colourfor the text because Iwanteda boldcolourto standout and I think
blackwas too boringandrepetitive.ThenItookthe textand copiedit
thenpasteditenoughtimestotake up the whole page,copyingand
pastingthe texttooka lot
less time andgave me more
time to decide whatcolourto
make the background.For
the backgroundI couldn'tdecide betweenafew colours.Istartedby usinga mintgreencolourbut I
decidedagainstitbecause althoughitlookednice itdidn'thave anyreal relevance tothe article,
thenI was temptedtouse a range of electriccolours, brightcolourslikehotpinkbutI thoughtitwas
inappropriate withthe serioustonesof the articles.Idecidedontwocolours,Ilikedthe colours
pastel yellow andpastel pinkbecause theyare bothbrightandpositive coloursbutalsotame and
not overpowering.
18. However,aftercreatingthispage,duringproductionwhenIhadsome spare time I decidedtogo
back and recreate thispage,Iwantedto make itlookmore importantand professional.Becausethe
page containssome serioustopicsandI thoughtthe wayI displayedthe page withapink, fun
backgroundand innocentcloudshapes,thatare inappropriate forthe topicsbutalsoweren't
createdwiththe besttoolsinphotoshopandtherefore didn'tlookveryeffective.So,Idecidedtogo
back and change the backgroundto one colour, yellow, sothatthe backgroundsweren'ttoo
distractingandthengetrid of the thoughtbubblesandchange themtosquare textboxeswitha
more professional typewriterfontcalled'AndaleMono'.Ihighlightedthe titleswithablue highlight
to make themstandout. Althoughatthe time I washappywithmy endresultof the page after
goingback and lookingatitI decidedforthe article Iwantedto use a more mature style,Ithinkthis
ismore likelytoengage the readersandkeepthe focusonthe contentinthe articlesoppose tothe
backgroundand the design.
Week7.3
Thenfor the restof the day I plannedtomake a lightweightpage toputin the magazine tofill out
the magazine andgive itsome extrapages.Throughproductionand planningIknew I wantedto
include more pagesaboutcelebrities, butIdidn'tknow how to include them.Iwantedtoinclude
extrainformationaboutcelebritiesbecause there aren'tenoughknowncelebritieswhopromote
feminism,andaway of gettingtoyoungadultsisto show theminspirationsthattheycanlookupto
and aspire tobe like.So,showingagroupof successful,popularcelebritiesthattheydidn'tknow
were active feministscouldinterestthem.OriginallyIgotinspirationtocreate thispage froma book
I was readingcalled'FeministsDon'tWearPink',I've mentionedthisbookpreviouslyinmyplanning,
it isa verypopularbookand containslotsof differentshortchaptersfromwhensharingtheir
experienceswithfeminism, ortheiropiniononfeminism.Forone page of mydouble page spreadI
thoughtit wouldbe a nice ideatohave the backgrounda collage of pagesfromthe book. So,I
choose a chapterby JameelaJamil,awell-knownactress/feminist,the articleswereexplainingher
thoughtsaboutfeminismandthe wayitisingrainedinboysthroughtheirchildhoods.Iscannedthe
pagesintothe printerand thenopenedthemupinphotoshop,Iorganisedthe photosinacollage -
style,withthe photosnotlininguptogether,givingitascrapbook aesthetic.Iplannedthe page so
that the title of the chapterwas the firstpage you saw and thenthe followingpage wasthe entire
firstpage of the chapteravailable forthe readerstoread, but afterthat the pagesoverlappedsothe
readerscouldn'treadfurtheron.I thenincludedapicture of JameelaJamil nexttothe openingpage,
inblack andwhite soit was inkeepingwiththe colourscheme of the restof the page.I reallylike
thispage because itssimplicityiscreatingareallynice balance throughthe magazine, because there
are a lotof pagesinmy magazine thatare veryloud, sothispage allowsthe readertoembrace the
page withouthavingtodo muchwork. However, eventhoughthe page issimple itisn'tboringor
plain,itstill looksinterestingandfitswiththe fanzinestyle thatmymagazine follows.Then,forthe
secondpage of the double page spreadIwantedtoinclude amale feminist, thisisbecauseIdidn't
wantto create the impressionthatonlywomencanbe feministsbecausethroughmymagazine I
have primarilyfocussedonwomenfeminists,whenthere are millionsof menwhosupportfeminism
justas much. So,at the time Iwas creatingthispage it hadjust beenthe MetGala, inthe Met Gala
19. hundredsof celebrity’sdressesextravagantly,spendingthousandsof poundsandthe topdesigners
to designtheiroutfitsforthe night.Forthe galaHarry Styleswore ablackoutfitwithsheer, lace
sleeves,pearl earrings,hisnailspaintedandrings.Showingafeminineandlessmasculine side to
himself,followinghisoutfitchoice he said' I thinkthere'ssomuchmasculinityinbeingvulnerable
and allowingyourselftobe feminine.andI'mverycomfortable withthat.'Ithinkthisisa very
importantstatementforsomeone withsuchawide followingtosaybecause he hasthe opportunity
to inspire millionsof peoplethroughhispopularity, andtoshow menthatit isn'ta badthingto be
feminine, tofightagainstmasculine stereotypesthatmenhave toconformto. So, for the second
half of the page I tookthe quote fromHarry Stylesanduseda typewriterfontforthe writing, then
tookphotosfrom the internetof hisoutfitatthe Met Gala I placedthemon the page usingthe same
scrap bookstyle I usedforJamil'spage,makingthe pagescomplementeachotherandlookgood
together,Ialsoappliedaverylightpurple colouroverlaytoall the picturesjusttomake themall the
same tintof colour, andto change the photosso thatI didn'tjust copythemfrom the internet.I
likedthispage because itmakesthe magazine uptodate withmoderneventsandshowsthatthe
magazine knowswhatisgoingonand what youngpeople will be interestedin.
The page I creatednextwasn'tinmy pre-productioneither,butthiswasbecause ithadn'thappened
while Iwasplanningmypre-production.Ispentthe daycreatinga page about the new Alabama
lawson abortion.Ihadn't plannedtocreate thispage before butwithitbeinginthe newsandall-
oversocial mediaat the time thatI was creatingmymagazine I thoughtthatit was appropriate thatI
include apage about it.I alsothoughtit wouldshow thatmy magazine isupto date withwhatis
goingon inthe news, andit was able toshow people whothinkthatsexismdoesn'tstill existhow
much itis still imbeddedinthe lawsystemandpolitical world. The abortionlaw passedinthe
middle of May andcauseduproar aroundthe world, the law statedthatunderlegalisationdoctors
couldface up to 99 yearsin prisonforperforminganabortion,democratsre-introducedan
amendmenttoexemptrape andincestvictims,butthe motionfailed.Thisisastrong stepback for
feminismbecause the lawisliterallytakingawomen'sbodyawayfromher,it meansthat she hasno
control overwhat happenstoher.I thoughtit was so importanttoinclude adouble page spread
aboutit because itisso important.Ireallywantedtocreate thispage but didn'twant itto affectmy
time schedule soIdidn'thave a lotof planningbutIdecide togo to the internetandtake
photographs, quotesandtweetsfromdifferentwebsitesandthenjustputthemona page following
a scrapbookstyle,Ihad the photosoverlapandlooklike theywere placedinacasual format.I had
the photosplacedinthe middle of the page so all the informationwas justputinfantof the reader,
there wasno obviousstructure forthe readerstofollow because all the separate pictureswere
standalone,givingfreedomtothe readerstoread whattheywant.I useda backgroundthat I found
on the internetwhichfollowedthe same style asthe backgroundIusedforfeministthoughts,Iused
a black backgroundwithwhite writingrepeating'MenShouldn'tBe Making LawsAboutWomen's
Bodies'a strongmessage. The double page spreadincludesarange of differentphotos, some of
themare cartoonpictures, some are justscreenshottingof articlesIfoundwithsome textthatI
addedto make the page lookmore personal.
Week7.4
The last day of the weekIdecidedtocreate my 'feministcalendar'page, the feministcalendarpage
was a double page spreadthatI wantedtoinclude inmymagazine because Ithoughtitwouldkeep
the magazine modernandup to date withrecenteventswhichwouldattracta youngaudience. And
20. I thinkthispage will make peoplemore likelytoattractpeople tobuythe magazine nexttime if it
showsa range of upcomingeventsfordifferentwomenaroundthe country.InmyplanningI
researchedafewdifferentphotosthatIcouldanimate inphotoshop,Idecidedtochoose toanimate
a photoof a protestbecause Irealisedthroughoutmymagazine,Ihadn’tincludedanyarticlesor
photosaboutfeministprotests.Protestsare amassive partof feminismandrecentlyhave become
an importantwayfor differentpeople tocome togetherandpeacefullyandnon-violently achievea
particularobjective ormake astand. A protestis easyandeffective because itgives
everyone/anyone anopportunitytomeetotherpeople withthe same opinionasyouand a chance
to standup for yourself andyourviews.Theyare verypopularwithdifferentfeministcausesandcan
cause a massive difference aroundthe world, theypromoteandcreate solidaritybetweenagroupof
people,andtheycreate afeelingof powerandmakingadifference.So,Ithoughtitwas an
importantpart to include inthe magazine. Also,Iwantedtomake the cartoon onthe page simple
but easyto recognise.Ifoundaphotofrom google of a groupof womenprotestinginthe street.I
tookthe photointophotoshopandstartedthe animationbyputtingellipseshapesover objectson
the photo.I startedwithputtingcircularshapesoverwomen’sfaces,Ithenusedthe ‘warp’tool
foundineditsandwas able toeditthe shape off the phototo follow the shape of the objectbehind
it onthe photograph, thenIuseda tool to choose the exactcolourthat the coloursin the photos
were.Icarriedthison and made differentshapesforthe whole picture.Ididn’tmake copiesof all of
the womeninthe photosbecause Ithoughtthat it wouldbe more effective tohave asimplisticstyl e
and include fewerwomeninamore spacedoutstructure that wouldgo acrossthe whole page. This
alsowas lesstime consuminggivingme time toconcentrate onotherpartsof mymagazine.
However, inthe productionof the cartoonI decidedtochange a few colours, sotheydidn’tmatch
the photocompletely,Ididthistoinclude arange of pinkcolours.Ididthisto create a pinkcolour
scheme onthe page to matchthe feministtheme,Ialsothoughtitwouldmake the page more
colourful insteadof justnormal simplisticcolours.AfterIfinishedincludingthe cartoonsof the
protesters,Istartedmakingthe title of the page on a protestsigninthe middle of the page.Ina lot
of mypagesI have justincludedthe title atthe topof the page,so I like the wayI’ve includedanew
ideaforthispage to include variety.Thenforthe restof the page I searcheddifferentevents
happeningaroundthe UKin London,Manchesteretcwhichattracts to readerswithdifferent
interestsandindifferentplacesinthe UK and dottedthemaroundthe page in chronological order.
Social media
ThenI finishedthe daybycreatingmytwo social mediapages.Iwasexcitedtocreate these pages
because Ithoughttheywouldmake mymagazine companylookmore professional andshow the
readersthat we aren’tjusta standalone magazine andwe aren’tjustcreatingthe magazine toearn
money.Toshowreadersthat we have social mediaforour readerstofollow andexpectconstant,
free updateswithdifferentarticlesandupcomingevents. Idecidedtouse the social mediapages
Instagramand Twitterbecause theyare boththe most usedappsforyoungadults,1 billionpeople
use Instagrama monthand321 millionusersonTwitteramonth.Forthe namesof the social media
accounts I decidedtouse the same name of the magazine ‘Magazine’because itmakesiteasierfor
our readerstofind.I startedthe account by usinga screenshotof myownsocial mediaaccountson
TwitterandInstagram,foundfontsthat were verysimilarandeditedinthe correctnames/captions.
I chose simple captionsandbiosforthe accountsbecause I wantedbasicandcatchy feminist
statementthatwouldattract readers.Withsocial mediaaccountsitisimportantto use short
effectivequotesandpoststhataren’ttoodetailedtokeepthe readersinterested.Ifoundthe quotes
for myTwitteraccount andI thoughtthese tweetslookedgoodonthe accountsbecause theywere
motivational/inspiringbutalsoweren’ttooserious.Iadded‘#identity’tothe endof my tweetsand
postsbecause Ithoughtthislookedprofessional andrealistic,alsohashtagsmake iteasierforpeople
21. to findthe accounts. For the post onInstagram andthe profile picture onTwitterIdecidedtouse a
photographI hadof my sister. The photographwastakenwitha professional camerainverygood
quality.Inthe photoshe has a flowerheldnexttoherheadandthe photois veryinnocentand
simple withisperfectforthe style the pagesare following.
I’mglad I includedsocial mediaaccountsbecause it will giveme awiderfollowingandan
opportunitytoattract more people tothe magazine makingitmore popularandhopefullymore
successful.Overall Iamgladwiththe outcome of the page and I like the positioningIputthe pages
in,secondto lastin the magazine because Ithinkitlookseffectivehow we have all the pagesandif
people have enjoyedreadingthe articlesandthe pagestheyhave the opportunitytofollow the
social mediapagesforupdates.
Week8.1
27/05/19
I was startingmylast weekof productioninapowerful positionbecauseIhadfinalisedall mydouble
page spreads, makingsmall amendmentstothe textandpositioningof the pagestomake sure they
were all seamless. So,headingintothe final weekIhadnounfinishedwork.Igave myself the last
weektocreate my frontcoverand my contentspage,Ihad alwaysplanned tocreate mycontents
page in the lastweekbecause IknewthatI wantedto include screenshotsof mypagestogo with
the contentspage so I neededtomake all the pagesbefore Icouldmake the contentspage.Inmy
planningIcreatedtwoideasforthe page,Ihad an ideato fitit intoa rectangle shape inthe middle
of the page,or have ittake uptwo pagesand be more spreadout.During productionIdecidedto
use the firstidea.I usedthisideabecause Ilikedthe formatof the page beingclose together, and
easiertoread.
I startedmakingthe page by designingthe background,at first, IdecidedIwantedasunsetpicture
for the backgroundbecause Ihad takenmultiple andIthoughtthatit wouldbe a calmway to
introduce the magazine. However, once Ifoundthe picture Iplannedtouse I decidedthatitwastoo
girlyandstandard and the contentspage wouldbe one of the firstthingsthat the readerwill see
whentheyopenthe magazine, soitcouldgive the readera negative firstimpressionof the
magazine. So, Itook the photointophotoshopanddistortedthe photoandappliedalotof different
effectstoit, whichkeptthe outlinesof the photobutmade itunrecognisable andmore suitedfor
my magazine. AfterIhadeditedthe background, Istartedmakingthe restof the contentspage. The
maincolourin the backgroundwaspastel pink, sofor the restof the page I copiedan exactcolour
fromthe picture anduseditfor the textbox.I knew selectinganexactcolourfromthe picture would
make it lookmore aestheticallypleasing.Iputthe textbox central on the page and thenuseda bold
fontfrom ‘Dafonts.com’forthe article headings,Iusedblackforthe textto make it more
professionalandsoit waseasyto read. ThenI wentto my otherpagesand tookscreenshotsof little
sectionsof them,Ionlychoose fourbecause Ididn’twantto include manyIjust wantedtotease,
give the readersanideawhat theyshould expectnotspoil articlesforthem.Once Ihad the
screenshots, Itookthe opacitylevelsdownto50% so theywere subtle andnot overpowering. Then,
afterI had finishedthissectionof the page, Istartedcreatingthe title ‘Contents’.Iwantedthe title
to be bold, butI didn’twantit to lookovercrowdedonthe page because the background, all the
articles, andthe screenshotsof the articlesfilledoutthe page enough. So, Idecidedtodouse a
small size font.Itookthe colourof the textbox andaddedpinkertoit so thatit was differentbut
still innkeepingwiththe pinkthemeof the page.Itookthe title andcopied it,soI had to versionsof
22. it,thenI put one slightlyabove the otherandaddedagradienteffecttothe top one, so it lookedlike
it wasblendingintothe secondone.Ithoughtthislookedveryeffectiveandeffortlesswhichwasthe
lookthat I waswanting formy contentspage.
ThenI conductedmylast photoshoot,Itookthree of my friendsandpositionedtheminthe same
waythat the three womenonthe coverof ‘The Women’DVD,formy frontcover. The shoot was
easyand simple,Iconductedthe shootin three differentlocationsbecause Ididn’thave time toget
my modelstogetherinthe same place, and the backgrounddidn’tmatteras I knew Iwouldbe
gettingridof the background.Ijustneededtofocuson the lightinginthe photos.Makingsure Iwas
gettingthe bestresultfromthe shootas I could.AfterIhad takenthe photos, I uploadedthemtomy
computerso thatI couldstart editingthe nextday.
8.3
The secondhalf of myweekwasspentcreatingmyfrontcover,I gave myself twodaystocreate it
whichisa comfortable amountof time.Because Ihada planand a good ideaof whatit wouldlook
like inmyheadit wasn’thard tocreate. The ideaformy frontcoveris to replicate anoldmovie DVD
covercalled‘The Women’.The Womenwasa movie releasedin1939, itwas a story centredaround
the livesof three womenandthroughoutthe filmthere are nomenpresent, noteveninthe
background.AndI thoughtthiswassuch an interestingandcool conceptemphasisinghow women
are so independent,Ialsothoughtitwasinterestingbecausethe movie wasproducedinatime
where womenwere defiantlynotequal tomen. So,formy frontcoverI thoughtit wouldbe clever
to copy the coverfor the frontof my magazine,Ithinkthisgivesmymagazine more of edge, itwill
alsohopefullyinterestreadersmakingthemwanttoreadthe magazine.Ilikedthisidea,butI
thoughtit mightconfuse some readers, soIdecidedtowrite ashort paragraphexplainingthe
associationbetweenmyfrontcoverandthe DVD frontcoveron the inside of the magazine, the page
nextto the contents.Thiswasuseful because Ihada spare page nextto the contents.I wrote the
paragraph ina small, basicfontso that itfulfilleditspurpose of justasimple explanationandnottoo
overthe top. I signedthe message with‘Identity’inanautographstyle andwitha kissafterit
because Ithoughtit lookedpersonal.
Firstly,Istartedthe productionof the frontcover byfindingthe correctfonts,I knew thatthiswould
be verytime-consuminganddifficulttofindexactreplicaof the fonts, butI knew thatif the fonts
weren’tsimilarthenitwouldruinthe aesthetic.So,Iusedthe same website ‘Dafonts.com’ and
23. lookedthroughthe differentsubheadingstofindthe fonts. Ittooka longtime butI finallyfound
appropriate fontsforthe writing,forthe heading‘Identity’Iusedafontcalled‘Nougat’,forthe
‘HannahMcNeill’Iused‘Lemondrop’,forthe subheadingandforlittle partsof textat the bottomof
the screen,I used‘Hand’andfor the rest of the small writingatthe bottomI used‘Andes’.Iwas
reallyhappywiththe outcome of the fontsandthinktheymake the page a lotmore successful.
Once I had successfullymatchedthe fontsandcreatedthe simple partsof the cover,e.g.the redtext
box and the barcode etc I startedto match the coloursof the font.Thiswas reallyeasyasall I did
was opena screenshotof ‘The Women’DVDcoverandplacedit onmy page, thenselectedthe
coloursfromthe writingandfilledmytextwiththem.Afterthis,Istartedcreatingthe small
animationonthe leftside of the cover,Iincludedthisbecause withoutitthere wasanemptyspace
whichdidn’tlookgood.SoI createdmy ownversionof the animationonthe cover,Ididthis in
photoshop,however,inmyversionthe womenare wearingtrousers, Ithoughtthiswasaneffective
ideabecause itdoesn’tconformwiththe stereotype thatwomenneedtowearskirtsanddresses.I
alsofilledtheirtopswiththe colourpink.
ThenI took the photosI hadtakenearlierthisweekintophotoshop,I usedthe lassotool on
photoshoptogetrid of the backgroundonall the photosthenpositionedthe photoswhereIwanted
themon the page.I positionedthemverycarefullybecauseIneededtomake sure thatthe middle
model’s armwasoverthe topof the red text box.ThiswasdifficultbecauseIhadto sort out all the
layersperfectlytomake sure none were overlapping, andthe photoslookedseamlesstogether.
AfterthisI putall the pictures onthe same layerso I couldmove themtogetherandalsoputthe
same effectsonall three layers.Iaddeda brownoverlaycolourtoall the imagesto give theman
olderlook,Ialsoincreasedthe exposure levels, sothe photoswere clearer.ThenIdecidedtogive
the cover an original twistandpixilatedthe facesof the models.Ithoughtthiswas cleverbecause it
made the cover lookmore cuttingedge, andthere isa nice, subtle associationwiththe pixilationof
the faces and the name of the magazine,Identity.Itisironicthatthe magazine iscalledIdentitybut
thenthe identityof the womenonthe coverhas beenstolen. Ipixilatedthe imagesbyusingthe
selectiontool todrawaroundtheirfacesand thenwentto‘Filter’atthe top of the page, thento
‘Pixelate’andto‘Mosaic’.ThenI changedthe intensityof the pixilationoneachface fordiversity
AfterI hadcompletedmyfrontcoverI uploadedall mypagesontoIssuudigital publishingwebsite.
