• a widely held but false belief or idea.
• Mythology is a traditional story, especially
one concerning the early history of a people
or explaining a natural or social
phenomenon, and typically involving
supernatural beings or events.

4. Etymology, Functions and
need of Mythology
• Derived from Greek
• “Mythos” stands for (story) and “Logy” stands
for (to study)
• To entertain (Storytelling was a valuable
skill. In places and times where people don’t
use written language, oral tradition is a way
of preserving knowledge.

• To morally instruct (Myths can explain the
correct form of behavior, explain customs
and traditions, codes, or laws to follow.)
• To explain the unexplainable (Where did
we come from “a universal phenomenon, or
cultural question”.)
• To reveal our deepest hopes/fears as a
society.

need of Mythology
• carry deep meanings, morals and life long
lessons in them…we need them to enhance
the bringing up of social beings and actually
it helps in not only making people literate but
also educated.
• also a way of passing on cultural values to
children, so that they will remember the
outcomes of certain behaviors.

7. Greek Mythology
• This mythology revolves around
Gods and Goddesses and
Heroes because Greeks
Believed in Many Gods.
• First there was Chaos.
• Out of Chaos emerged two
beings: Gaea (Mother Earth)
and Uranus (Heavens).
• Then Gaea and Uranus had
children .
• Every God and Goddess is
linked to some feelings or acts.
• Zeus, Poseidon, Aphrodite and
Hercules are well-known
characters in pop culture.
• Famous movies about Greek
mythology are Clash of Titans,
wrath of Titans, Hercules and
Percy Jackson series.

8. Egyptian Mythology
• Like other Mythology, every
aspect of life in ancient Egypt
was informed by the stories
which related the creation of the
world and the sustaining of that
world by the gods.
• World was said to have
emerged from an infinite,
lifeless sea named Nun when
the sun rose for the first time.
• Atum created himself from Nun
using his thought and
sheerforce.
• Anubus, Isis, shekmet are the
famous characters of
mythology.
• Movies based on this mythology
are Gods of Egypt and Mummy
Series.

confirmed)
• People at that time used it to
communicate
• As you can see, Animals are
being shown (Probably Hunting)

• Paper Derived from
Papyrus was used in
Ancient Egypt in 2560–2550
BCE
• But its materials were not
defined as True Paper.
• Then, in China, actual
paper and making process
was invented by Cai-Lun in
some 100-105 BCE

12. Gutenberg’s Printing
Press
• In the 10th century
handmade press was first
established.
• Printing press was
developed was developed
in 1439 in Germany.
• Gutenberg’s Bible was the
first notable work published
in 1455.
• This was the start of mass
media.

13. Newspaper
• By 1500, the printing press
had made its way
throughout Europe.
• The first weekly newspaper
was published in Germany
by Johann Carolus in 1604.

was published in 1665 in
Oxford, England.
• The first true American
newspaper wasn’t
introduced until 1690.
• It had growth in late 18th
centaury and 19th centaury

• An electrical telegraph was
independently developed
and patented in the United
States in 1837 by Samuel
Morse.
• The telegraph
revolutionized long-distance
communication.
• Telephone was invented in
1876 by Alexander Graham
Bell.
• It made two – way
communication easy and
accessible.

And Cinema
• The first partially successful
photograph of a camera
image was made in
approximately 1816 by
Nicéphore Niépce.
• Photographic camera
developed for commercial
manufacture was built by
Alphonse Giroux in 1839.
• public screening of ten of
Lumière brothers' short
films in Paris on 28
December 1895 can be
regarded as the
breakthrough of projected
cinematographic motion
pictures.
• Until 1927, motion pictures
were produced without
sound.

16. Radio And Television
• Was invented by Italian
physicist Guglielmo Marconi
in 1896.
• But voice came in 1921.
• Became available in crude
experimental forms in the
late 1920s.
• First Transmission in 1925.
• Became common in 1950’s
after 2nd World War.
• Mid-1960s, color
broadcasting was
introduced in the US and
most other developed
countries.

Media
• Internet came into existence in mid
1960’s when computers were
connected together.
• The connections increased under US
Army (DARPA) and eventually it
made itself to internet.
• Now its World Wide Web with lots of
accessible information.
• The first social media site was called
Six Degrees developed in 1997.
Where you could upload picture and
make friends .
• The 21st centaury carried the
tradition and now there are many
sites like Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram. Information available on
these social sites is not available on
Tv or newspapers sometime.
