This document contains 6 participation questions for week 1 that address how people define and perceive race. The questions ask how race should be defined, if redefining race can reduce racism, how knowing one's own race impacts perceptions of others, the 4 criteria people are classified by in culture, if some criteria are more prone to prejudice, and if racial/ethnic identifiers are significant to one's identity.
