A lack of decoy skill will reflect in the poor performance ofpatrol dogs. There is no way aroundit, decoyskills in the police K9world
needto improvetohave the performanceof patrol K9s improve.The goodnews is, these skills can be taught.
This class will take place over 3 workingdays, 24hours ofinstruction,andbe open to LawEnforcement/Militaryparticipants. The
class will be open to up to15 participants. Supervisors are welcome to attend. Theclass will comprise both classroom instructionand
practical decoywork. Classroomwork will cover readingK9 behaviorduringcontrolledaggression, drive manipulation, andgoal
settingfor trainingsessions. Practical instruction will include proper technique in the suit andhidden sleeve. Proper mechanics for
safely catchingpolice dogs in training, andtechniques to workdogs to theirgoals in foundationandskills trainingwill be coveredin
depth.
Specific Skills Taught
Decoy as an instrument of operant conditioning.
Alert on passivesuspects with no equipment
Bringingout civil aggression.
Drive channeling
Eliminateequipment orientationin anydog.
Propersleeve mechanics: sleeves don’t createequipment orientation, decoys do.
ProperBite suit targetingand“catch”mechanics.
Properuse of hidden sleeves andmuzzle fighting.
Explanation ofdecoytechnique for trainingandmaintainingcontrol commands: out, guarding, hold& bark, redirects, and
call-off (recalls).
Integratingfundamentals intopolice K9 trainingscenarios.
Top level decoy workwill increase the abilityofyour patrol K9s tomake apprehensions with confidence,protect your handlers,
eliminate equipment orientation, andbe an asset in preparingyour handlers for success in certification withclean, conflict free outs,
andrecalls.
Improve the efficiencyof your limitedtrainingtimewith your decoys by learninghowto integrate fundamental & skill exercises into
real-worldscenarios.
