Why do some people follow and worship celebrities but find it impossible to trust God? Why do some parrot the opinions of celebrities but find it impossible to obey God's Word?

When John the Revelator began to worship an angel he was told twice not to do it but rather worship
God (Rev. 19:10 and 22:9). When the people at Lystra began to worship the apostles after a miracle
healing the apostles told them not to do that because they were men of like passions (Acts 14:6-18).
What is it that causes people to worship people but not God? In Acts 8:9-24 we read if a sorcerer that
bewitched the people and had the people worship him as if he was some great one. Until the apostles
came and preached the truth and sent this sorcerer home unemployed. What is it that causes people to
worship stars and celebrities? The worship certain politicians as if they were the embodiment of a
messiah who brings change and transformation. They listen to what their favorite celebrity rock star or
actress is saying on political, moral, social and spiritual issues as if they were qualified to speak on
such issues and deserving of attention and obedience. But will they listen to a God-called, Holy Spirit
anointed preacher? And what happens when the most wicked rock singer dies? Why they preach him
into heaven for something “spiritual” he or she said years ago. Let’s face it: We live in a time of
idolatry where we have become worshipers of people that we regard as stars and celebrities.
The modern rock star and actors and actresses view themselves as arrogant agents of change who feel
entitled and competent to brainwash into a secular humanistic worldview and incite them to scorn
God, despise Christian morals and hate Christians. Who cares when certain Hollywood stars or
lecherous female singers raise money and speak up for the baby murderers at Planned Parenthood?
These scorners do not deserve our attention. We have to resist their foolish sorceries with the word of
God. When Jesus was tempted of the devil in the desert he did not argue, discuss or negotiate with
him. No! He refuted him with the word of God. He quoted scriptures at him. See Matthew 4. I believe
Jesus spoke “It is written …” three times not only to hurl a word of truth at Satan but also to keep his
own mind in focus and not give the devil’s arguments any room in his mind. When we quote key
scriptures back to us repeatedly then we get our mind focused on the mind of God and His ways
without allowing evil thoughts to occupy our thinking. I think that is why we are told to speak to
ourselves in psalms and hymns according to Col. 3:16. To protect our mind from attack through a
barrage of hellish thoughts.
Let’s keep it simple: We are told in the 10 commandments not to make a graven image and to have no
other gods. We all have heard that. Now let’s apply that to our lives in a practical way:
So you are a Christian and you want to follow Jesus. Then you can’t continue to do as the stars and
celebrities do. Dress as they do. Talk as they talk. Think as they think. You can no longer copy that
crowd. Rihanna dresses wrong and talks wrong. The Bible calls it whorish and impudent. Miley
Cyrus acts like a scorner and a hater of that which is good. Most actors and actresses are too liberal
and do not reflect a Christian worldview. They are wrong on abortion, wrong on evolution, wrong on
chastity and purity. They are wrong on gay marriage. But they continue to bewitch a generation with
their sorceries. Some of these are supposed to be musicians but what these people do is nothing but
pornography set to music. They are bewitching your children with sorceries to get them to think that
fornication, adultery, uncleanness, evil concupiscence and lasciviousness is OK. The morally bankrupt
person always chants “What’s wrong with that?” You better ask if it is right before God. What does

God say about it? Is it good or evil? Is it wise or unwise? Is it sinful or righteous? Don be a fool and
call evil good and good evil (Isa. 5:20). But let’s continue with the story of Simon the sorcerer. He had
all these people follow him and listening to him. Hey but when the apostles came preaching the truth
of the gospel you know what happened? People quit following the sorcerer and even the sorcerer
himself quit his sorcery and became a believer. He tried to buy the gift of God with money and Peter
had to give him a stern rebuke saying: “Thy money perish with thee … for thy heart is not right in the
sight of God. Repent therefore of this thy wickedness. … For I perceive that thou art in the gall of
bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.” Acts. 8:20-23.
If you follow Jesus, you cannot follow the celebrities. If you walk with God, you cannot dance with
the stars. If you want to keep God’s commands you cannot copy the world’s celebrities. If you heed
God’s word you cannot go after public opinion.
Here is the problem with keeping up with the rock stars and Hollywood celebrities: “He that tilleth his
land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.”
Proverbs 12:11, 28:19. We have to do our work, fulfill our duties and serve God. We have no time left
over to follow vain people. People who are raised by television are in danger of following vain
persons. Young people try to copy behaviors they see in TV or pick up in a clique of peers in school.
Vain people will lead you to drugs, alcohol und utter ruin. They act like scorning smart alecks who are
resistant to that which is good. If you follow Jesus, then you can’t follow vain people. You have to be
faithful to Jesus and those vain people will only mean something again to you, if they turn around and
repent of their sin and likewise follow Jesus. To the vain persons the Bible says: Torn you at my
reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. You have
to turn first!
Why do people swallow hook, line and sinker the garbage being expressed by modern stars and
celebrities? Is it because of the lack of godly leaders. Rotten celebrities are a form of God’s judgment
upon a nation that has forsaken God according to Isaiah 3. Look at what’s happened to the nation.
Godly leaders were dying off and who was left to run the country: women and children. God says in
the first few verses of chapter 3 that he is taking away from Judah the mighty man, the man of war, the
judge, the prophet and the honourable man. But the land will be left to children who will be their
princes and babes shall rule over them. And the people shall be oppressed every one by another. It
says there “the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the
honourable.” That is so true of those childhood stars. Some of them need a good spanking. Not another
contract. They speak proudly against that which is good and are filled with hatred and perversion.
Why does anybody pay attention to this crowd? They are a shame to their country and society. Success
at an early age made them arrogant and proud and turned them into foolish scorners who have no
respect. The Bible warns that that is a judgment over a people’s sin. It is the judgment of God when
immature leaders (“babes”) and oppress the people. Now we have immature people being worshiped
and those people are selling their wicked music that bewitches nations to seduce them into sin through
the wicked beat of their songs and the wicked lyrics they sing with raunchy voices.
Don’t you know that God does not endorse this culture of lasciviousness and fornication. I bet you
probably don’t even know what these two words mean. Go study and look them up. You bend over
your stupid smartphone like you are bending over to worship a God and you are too lazy to look up a
Bible word. What is wrong with you? Use you stupid phone to do some good and put a dictionary on
there so you can look up words and understand what you are reading.
Don’t come whining to me that the Bible uses old archaic words. No! A 1000 times no. You have been
deceived by society’s newspeak. You have to understand God calls things by different names. Society
calls it a one-night-stand. God calls it adultery. Society calls it reproductive rights. God calls it murder.
Society calls it sexual identity. God calls it abomination, effeminate, abuser of themselves with
mankind. Society calls it gender identity. God calls it sodomy. God’s words are not archaic. They just

describe things from his perspective as Creator, as Savior and Lord. God calls things by different
names and we are not authorized to rename things. We have to go by God’s definition.
Once you come to Christ you will have to unlearn the world’s newspeak and come on over to God’s
kind of thinking. Let us not worship people. We must worship God. We are not even supposed to
worship angels. Much less should we ever regard the word of some Hollywood actor or some rockstar.
We trust in God and we don’t care if those celebrities “weigh in” on some important issue. We have to
ignore them because we put God first and follow his Word. So we don’t need to join those foolish
conversation about what so-and-so said about such-and-such. What counts for us is what God says. Do
you know what God says about the killing of the unborn that has been “legalized”? Do you know how
God defines marriage? Do you know God’s plan of salvation?
Let me invite you to worship God in spirit and truth. Repent of worshipping something that is not God.
Forsake the vain persons that you have followed and tell the Lord Jesus Christ that you want to follow
Him. He died for you on cross because there he took the punishment for our sin upon him. This is how
God showed His love for His fallen creation. By making a way for us to be reconciled. So He became
man in Jesus Christ. Best of all: He didn’t stay dead. Jesus arose from the dead. He was seen by so
many. He ascended back to Heaven and guess what? He will come back like a bridegroom in a Jewish
wedding to come get his bride, the church of Jesus Christ ,all those who have been saved. So that we
can ever be with Jesus Christ throughout all eternity. Worship Jesus! Keep yourselves from idols.
