This document summarizes why Mexico celebrates important historical events and figures in its history of independence. It commemorates the fallen soldiers who died defending Mexico from foreign rule, the start of the Mexican War of Independence led by Miguel Hidalgo against Spanish colonialism, and the Mexican Revolution led by Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa against the authoritarian government of Porfirio Diaz.
