Assignment: create a proposal for a piece of public art that will be displayed on the soon-to-be-built 'Promenade' Condominium building, representing the history of the site.
2. My idea is to create a 3-layer piece involving
tempered glass, steel, and wood. The main
focus of the layout will be to capture the
layered history of the site through archival
images, as well as making it aesthetically
pleasing to all viewers and durable against
the elements.
3. The back layer will be tempered glass with an
archival photo either etched or engraved onto
it. It will be a rectangle approximately 6’ high
and 14’ wide that will be mounted on the
wall. The next layer will be laser cut stainless
steel which will only partially cover the glass
layer, about 30% to 50%, and it will also
contain archival imagery.
4. The final layer will be wood – probably cedar-
carved into a tree placed on one side of the
piece. It could potentially have imagery
carved into it. The whole piece will be backlit
or lit from above/below.
5. Tempered glass for durability / cost effective
Stainless steel
Cedar wood to acknowledge lumber mill
