Scarlet, a troubled teenager, is seen sitting alone in an empty school playground with bruises on her face. In her next class, Scarlet is well-dressed and joking with friends but not paying attention to the teacher's lecture about drugs. When called on, Scarlet cheekily accuses the teacher, Mr. Philips, of taking drugs behind the school. Though this should provoke a serious response, Mr. Philips simply gives Scarlet detention with a wink. The film title "Playground" is then shown, hinting at a dark storyline involving Scarlet and her teacher.
