Editor's Notes

  1. As you have already seen we used a diamond to resemble Ambrocenide. This was done for many reasons: the high value of a diamond - high perfumistic value of Ambrocenide a diamond is hard and long lasting – same as Ambrocenide it can have very sharp characteristics and is very substantive when light goes through a diamond it is shown in many facets – same for Ambrocenide shows many facets in different fragrance concept (sharp, soft, ambery, woody, acts as a booster or to give body and volume) Therefore we will start the introduction of the presentation with a short video that summarized the facets found most important!
  2. the idea of this page is to show that perfumers all over the world and throughout all application use ambrocenide. Wilhelm Wiedmann: expert for fabric and home care Dirk Braun: expert for Personal Care (especially Shampoo/Shower Gel) Pascal Sillon: expert for Personal Care, Fine Fragrance

  5. the dose response curve shows the impact of Ambrocenide 10DPG in correlation with the dosage of the dilution 24 experts (12 female, 12 male) get 9 smelling strips starting with 0,0000001. they evaluate them and rate at which dosage level they can smell it how strong (scale 1-9) we chose to compare against Aldehyde C12 Laurin, as it is a widely known material and as it comparable to Ambrocenide 10DPG in terms of impact from the blotter: it has nothing to do with the comparison of the odor character! If we would have compared against something meaningful in the field woody-ambery we would have had to take a competition material like Karanal or Trisamber, which we wanted to avoid!
  6. over all stability of Ambrocenide is okay this is a sensory stability not an analytically measured one in some media like bleach Ambrocenide is chemically not 100% stable, but due to its strength it keeps enough of its character
  7. TENACITY ON BLOTTER (023) 1 = one hour or less 2 = three hours 3 = ten hours 4 = one day 5 = three days 6 = ten days 7 = one month 8 = three month 9 = more than three month The tenacity is determined by smelling periodically a blotter dipped in the concentrated product. The tenacity value is reached when the odor of the material is becoming very weak (Intensety 2 on a 9 to 1 scale). INTENSITY IN AIR The raw material odor intensity of a product determined in air. The intensity is determined by putting 1 µl in a 7 l bag. The bag is stored for 16 hours at 80°C. Afterwards the air in the bag is smelled by a panel by using the so-called Sniffer. As standard Aldehyde C 7 is used in two concentrations: 4 => 1µl Aldehyde C 7 15% in DEP 7 => 1µl Aldehyde C 7 50% in DEP The scale 1 to 9 is used for the results THRESHOLD IN AIR The raw material threshold of a product determined in air. The threshold value is determined by putting 1µl of a product in a 7 l bag. The bag is stored for 16 hours at RT or 80°C (depending on the volatility of the product). Afterwards the air is smelled by a panel by using a dilution olfactometer. In addition a concentration analysis of the air is performed. The lower the threshold the higher the registered value (the value representsw the negative decadic logarithm of the threshold concentration in g/l). To establish results for bases and essential oils the sensoric part was handled as described above. Instead of the concentration analysis a "calculated estimation" was done. BLOOMING, SENSORY 0,1% of a raw material is mixed into 2.0 g of neutral surfactant Cremophor CO445. This mixture is diluted with 98.0 g water. The solution is freshly prepared 1 to 2 hours before evaluation. The solution is evaluated out of an open 250 ml beaker. The intensity of the material is evaluated on a scale of 1 to 9. Reference materials are: 164433 Alcohol C10 = 4 198030 Hyacinth Body = 7 DIFFUSIVITY (291) Diffusivity is a value that gives an idea of a materials radiation and impact over a distance. The higher the value, the faster and stronger the material is perceived. Scale is defined 1 = no impact within 3 min to 9 = high impact within 10sec. The diffusivity is determined by smelling 0.5 g material in a petri dish at a distance of 50 cm from the panellist. The dish is opened upon a signal, the time stopped and intensity ranked at the time of the impact. Each material is evaluated three times by 8 panellists. Measurements should be performed in a surrounding that excludes convection or draft. (Scale for intensity: 1= no odour to 5= strong odour; Scale for time: <10sec = 4.5, <20 sec.=4,<40sec =3.5, <60sec =3, <80sec =2.5, <100sec =2, <130sec =1, <200sec =0.5,>200 sec =0; both parts are added to give the diffusivity value) ClogP This calculated value describes the distribution of a material between octanol (unpolar) and water (polar). The value is used to estimate a materials lipophilic or hydrophilic properties. The higher the value, the lower the polarity of the material. Negative values describe very polar material. Because of the range of the value, the decadic logarithm is used. These values are used as basis in some of P&G's patents. The polarity (ClogP) is calculated via the molecular structure by the program "Daylight".
  8. Analytical scent Control is a symrise technology the first measures the substantivity of a material in the washing process. Shown above: % of the material left on fabric in a we stage and in a dry stage afterwards (next page) the amount of the material that was found on the fabric is set into correlation with the threshold of the material.  called FOV = Fabric Odor Value
  9. What is show here is that the Fabric Odor Value of Ambrocenide is much higher even though the substantivity on fabric was a lot lower. But as Ambrocenide can be smelled in smaller quantities and as it has a higher impact than Timberol, the smaller amount are sufficient to perform stronger.
