3. Firewall/Email System
● An intranet is separated from the rest of the
Internet by a firewall. The firewall enables
corporate emplyees to use the Internet.
● A key component of an intranet is an internal
email system. The email system works just
like Internet email. It can use normal
Internet email clients, but it is designed to
route traffic within an organization.
4. Corporate databases
● Corporate databases with important
information can be made available over the
intranet via web based HTML documents
and search tools. An intranet enable people
to callaborate on their work electronically
using groupware. An intranet also
employees to regularly attend
videoconferences meeting where people in
different parts of the world can see and talk
to each other using their personal computer.
5. Corporation
● Using an intranet makes it much easier for a
corporation to work with other businesses,
such as subcontractors.
● Corporations can enable customers to buy
goods and services from them on the
Internet by linking the corporation's sales
systems to the Internet through the intranet.
The transation travels through a firewall in
both directions and uses encryption
technology as a security measure.
