Presentation given by Jorge Perez from Second Church of Christ, Scientist, San Francisco about reaching out through radio and television programs to a diverse audience.
2. “Divine Love is impartial and universal in
its adaptation and bestowals.”
Science and Health, p 13
3. Reaching a diversity of people
through our daily Radio show
Reach people in hospitals,
in jails, on the road, at
home, anywhere.
Public can call in for one-
on-one healing session
with a practitioner.
Experienced lecturers,
practitioners, and other
Christian Scientists are
interviewed.
Callers provide testimonies
of healing.
4. Reaching a wider audience
through our Television Show
Reaches a different
audience from the radio.
Airs late at night and early
in the morning when people
are often feeling desperate.
Includes closed captioning
for those who are impaired.
We make ourselves
available to help people
right after the show.
.
5. Our church commits to embracing
all members of our community.
As Christian Scientists, we have
to be obedient to God:
-“go into all the world”
-“preach the gospel to every
creature”…
-”Heal the sick” …no exceptions
6. Jesus showed us HOW to go
into the world. He commanded
us to by-pass:
-Religion
-Nationality
-Language
-Cultural and geographical
differences
7. Let us remember that we are
no longer disciples of Jesus;
we are the apostles of the
Christ!
8. We need to put into practice what we
have already learned:
we need to heal!
9.
10. An informal after-church
study session
Saved the church.
Membership has grown.
More testimonies are
offered.
More healings are
witnessed.
There is a close-knit family
feeling among members.
The heart is getting its
rightful nutriment.
Requested by the
newcomers.
Runs for an hour.
The terminology of the
Lesson is explored and
applied to specific needs
of daily life.
Everyone contributes with
their understanding of the
Lesson.
11.
12. Simultaneous Translations
Some people were reluctant at first, now
most churches in the area see it as part of
their lecture planning.
It brings the “Day of Pentecost” where
everyone hears the message in his own
language.
Must be willing to go where the need is.
Where there is a need, Spirit will meet it.
13. Closing Reflection
“Christ has no body on earth but yours,
No hands but yours,
No feet but yours,
Yours are the eyes through which
Christ’s compassion looks out in the world.
Yours are the feet through which
He is to go about doing good.
Yours are the hands with which
He is to bless men now.”
~~ St Teresa of Avila
Editor's Notes
For example: tell testimony of healing of teeth.
Stop at this point to discuss the difference between a disciple and an apostle.
