5. C. PROGRAM TREATMENT:
What is the problem we are trying to solve?
The world is rapidly changing, old recipes and tricks do not work today, the culture and society
demand new and lasting long solutions for current issues, new products, new business models, a
new social order is required.
“Innovation is the application of new solutions that meet new requirements, inarticulate needs, or
existing market needs. This is accomplished through more effective products, processes, services,
technologies, or ideas that are readily available to markets, governments and society. “ wikipedia
Innovation seems to be the only solution for this post modern demand.
Alpha Innovator is the creator of an Innovation Center.
Northern California is now the big cluster of Innovation Centers in the world.
If something will emerge to change the world, it will emerge from Northern California, it will
emerge from the creation of an Alpha Innovator.
How will be the piece be used?
As inspiration for creation of more Innovation Centers statewide, Nationally, and Globally. Adding
more innovation clusters and driving more entrepreneurship to innovation as a new and
permanent solution for old issues.
The piece will be used to educate and activate creativity in the broad sense as well as
entertainment to fulfill the mission of Public TV as a media.
Objectives
To compel the audience to participate in the innovation process.
To inspire action and show the ease of starting an Innovation Center in Northern California in the
last few years.
Show through examples that each Alpha Innovator (creator of an Innovation Center) is the
average person with an average life, but in some moment, they felt compelled to create an
environment where innovation will flourish.
What will be done to bring about this change in thinking or behavior in the audience?
We intend to show by example, how common sense and determination in opposition to high and
sophisticated strategies drive to creation of environments thus causing innovation to flourish.
Our creative approach will be to create a TV Show in a binary orbit of a companion website
working as an interactive repository of ideas and information.
An Advisory Board formed by experts guiding the show in the direction of the most significant and
interesting examples of creation of Innovation Centers.
Short documentaries, 30 minutes each, once a month showing real success stories and real
people with big realizations in the field of the creation of innovation centers.
D. WHAT KIND OF RELATIONSHIP DO YOU WANT WITH KQED/KTEH?
KQED/KTEH to produce
6. KQED will act as a Producer, sharing ownership, copyright, etc., KQED will capture 30% or 40% of funding
in common fundraising efforts and KQED will be responsible to provide Tech people as: Studio Director,
Admin, Line Producer, Production Services, atc.
E. Please describe how you see KQED working with you on this project.
How we see KQED working with us in the project:
We believe the Show “Alpha Innovator” fits in the KQED'S production and programming priorities
because:
Fits in KQED’s mission:
The Show is a source of information, education, and/or entertainment, and will reflect the values
KQED places on human dignity, lifelong learning, the power of ideas, and the importance of the
communities that we serve.
For our Northern California audiences. The show does encourage people to think and explore
new ideas of creation of innovation Centers. The show promotes lifelong learning experiences,
encourages civic participation, and opens a door for community service when the innovation
center is nonprofit.
Fits in KQED’s audience strategy:
The show is the first one in the world to cover the conception of Innovation Centers. Those
excited with innovation are prospective viewers, but because of it’s entertainment value, the show
can be viewed as a simple documentary.
The show is based only in Northern California:
The subject matter is especially relevant to Northern California, (and the West, and the Pacific
Rim) because this is the big cluster of Innovation Centers in the world. Here we have Innovation
Centers, Venture Capital, skilled employees and corporation consumers of innovation. The
history of innovation has been written in Northern California.
Our potential partners are anyone in the ecosystem of innovation (plenty in Northern California), at
this moment, before we start the show we already have engaged in the project corporations like
Tango, Innovation Centers like Techshop, and Academia like Stanford and Singularity University
Our business plan is in Attachment D Business Plan.
At this moment we have not started the underwriting and fundraising campaigns.
At this moment we do not have any defined planning of program sales.
At this moment we do not have any other potential revenues secured or projected than
underwriting by a key members of Innovation Center Ecosystem.
Expense Budget. See Attachment K
There is no cost associated with Meetups and other social events.
7. F. WHY WOULD PEOPLE WANT TO WATCH IT?
Innovation is the word of the moment, every time someone sees something about innovation, they
feel compelled to stop and listen. I think that Northern California has the big cluster of innovation
in the world and everyone in the ecosystem of innovation is connected in some way with news
about innovation, documentaries about innovation and shows about innovation.
KQED traditionally broadcasts noncommercial shows and documentaries that is the perfect fit for
this show.
G. WHY WOULD FUNDERS WANT TO FUND IT?
We have never formally requested any funding at this moment. The members of the ecosystem of
Innovation have vested interest in funding this project due to the intrinsic relationship between
marketing of this Innovation Center and the TV show.
We have requested volunteer work from friends and associates and have had a positive response.
The members of the ecosystem of Innovation have vested interest in funding this project due to
the intrinsic relationship between marketing of this Innovation Center and the media.
H. HOW DO YOU THINK THIS PROGRAM FITS WITH KQED’S PRODUCTION AND PROGRAMMING
PRIORITIES?
We think this program fits in KQED’s Production and Programing priorities because:
1 The focus is a phenomenon currently particular to Northern California,
2 Fits with the KQED mission and audience strategy,
3 Is consistent with the KQED brand and makes financial sense,
4 Has distribution potential and impact beyond the TV Show,
5 Is entertaining and enlightening.
