AUREOMYCIN
Presentation
Capsules 250 mg.
Each yellow capsules, printed “Aureomycin” contains chlortetracycline hydrochloride 250 mg.
USES
Aureomycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used for the treatment of infections caused by
chlortetracycline-sensitive organisms. Typical indications include: ear, nose, and throat infections, Acute and
chronic bronchitis. Pneumonia. Gastro-intestinal infections. Amoebic hepatitis. Urinary tract infections. Soft
tissue infections. Venereal diseases. Acne. Typhus fever.
Aureomycin is n also indicated for prophylasxis before or after surgical and dental procedures.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Adults:
One capsule four times a day. This may be increased to six or eight capsules daily in severe infections. In
the treatment of amoebiasis, at least two capsule four times daily for ten to fourteen days is recommended.
Elderly:
Aureomycin should be used with caution in the treatment of elderly patients where accumulation is a
possibility.
Administration:
Aureomycin should be taken an hour before or two hour after meals and therapy should be continued for up
to three days after characteristic symptoms of the infection have subsided.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS
Contra-indications:
A history of hypersensitivity to twtracyclines. Systemic lupus erythematosus.
