Rap music- ”a style of popular music, developed by disc
jockeys and urban blacks in the late 1970s, in which an
insistent, recurring beat pattern provides the background and
counterpoint for rapid, slangy, and often boastful rhyming
patter glibly intoned by a vocalist or vocalists.”
I have chose this genre because it is a very popular genre and
has a distinct look, which will easily recreated by using the
correct lighting, colour palett and image.
3. Magazine cover

There will be different aspects of the magazine
that will be portrayed throughout all rap
magazines. This will be the look of the magazine
and certain features of the magazine. For
example the way that the person in the main
image is dressed.
Things associated with rap would be:
1. Baseball caps
2. Lots of jewelry such as gold chains, rings,
watches etc.
3. Big oversized clothing etc.

colours and font
The colour pallet of rap magazines tends to be a
3 colour pallet: black, white, with a brighter
colour to stand out – usually red.
Font-the fonts used for the titles such as the mast
head and the main sell lines will be big and bold
– usually an impact font. They are normally in
capital letters with a brighter colour to stand out
against the background. The other sell lines will
are smaller but still large and bold enough to
stand out. The titles and sell lines won’t ever be
long as the shorter ther are the more memorable
they will be.

images
Main image-on the cover of the magazines, there is
always one main image. This may be of a model or
celebrity who are featuring in the magazine. The
image will have to fit in with the magazine, such as
colour theming and the way that the individual is
presented. For example the clothing that they are
wearing will have to fit into the colour scheme used
for a consistent theme. For example the main image
is dark like the rest of the magazine so that the
writing that is in yellow stands out. There sometimes
may be other thumbnails of other images/features
in the magazine to show other articles within the
magazine. The main feature in the magazine is most
likely to be someone in the public eye so that more
people are attracted to the magazine.

my magazine
In my magazine, I will have to ensure that I include al
the different concepts that make up a rap magazine.
Some of these will be:
1. Making sure I use large bold fonts for the mast head
and main sell lines
2. Use a 3 colour palett, such as black white and yellow.
3. The font colour will stand out against the background
4. Using a model who wears the appropriate clothing
such as dark shirt, gold chains, lots of other jewelry
such as rings, a watch etc. as well as a baseball cap
5. Use low key lighting
6. Have one main image that is a medium close up
