4. Who is your teacher? Mr. Chiang previously taught in NYC (where he met his wife), earned his BA in political science at UCI, and MA in education at Stanford, 2 nd MA in education from Columbia University.

Journal #0a , Title “ Opening Speech ” 1) Write and time a 30-60 second speech that responds to this ( you may discuss with others ): 85 billion+ people have lived on Earth (Dillard 1998), looking at your own history, 50+ generations of your blood line have lived since humans began creating societies, 7,500+ if you trace bone records. Explain why history is important for the human race, and for your own future success. Mr. Chiang’s 7 Speech Tips 1) 3 Part: Opening > Argument > Closing 2) Think of your audience and use local examples 3) Stories are remembered 4) Cite authoritative evidence 5) Call audience to action 6) Repetition, pauses, tone 7) Speak slowly and make eye contact (or try looking over heads) Last, the majority of speech is body language, not words.
