➤ 1847-1935, born in Berlin, lived in a huge
house close to the Brandenburg Gate
➤ probably the most famous painter of
German impressionism
➤ studied drawing and painting in Weimar,
Paris and the Netherlands
➤ he was president of the Prussian
Academy of Arts from 1920-1933, but had
to resign then because he was Jewish
and Jewish artists weren‘t allowed to
exhibit their works anymore
➤ When the Nazis marched through the
Brandenburg Gate to celebrate their
victory in the elections, Liebermann said:
"I could not possibly eat as much as I
would like to throw up.“

➤ German painter, one of the

expressionism
