This document provides guidelines on the management of critically ill adults with COVID-19 in the intensive care unit. It was created by an international panel of 36 experts across multiple disciplines. The panel reviewed available evidence and issued 54 statements, including 4 best practice statements, 9 strong recommendations, and 35 weak recommendations on topics related to infection control, laboratory diagnosis, hemodynamic support, ventilatory support, and potential COVID-19 therapies. When direct evidence was limited, the panel considered evidence from other coronaviruses, influenza, and acute respiratory distress syndrome to inform their recommendations. The guidelines are meant to help clinicians caring for critically ill COVID-19 patients and will be updated as new evidence emerges.
