The battle of Boyacá was the
military confrontation of the war of
independence of Colombia that
guaranteed the success of the
Campaign Liberating of New
Granada. It took place the 7 of
August of 1819 in the cruise of the
river Teatinos, and the environs of
Tunja.
ITS ORIGIN
4. It began by a territorial
struggle between the realist army
and the independentist army, the
realist trying to conquer
territories and the republican
trying to prevent it.
BACKGROUND
5. On Saturday, August 7, in the
morning, the realist army from
Motavita began its journey to
Santafé de Bogotá. ... The Spanish
chiefs and the almost complete
realist division, some 1,600
American troopers, were taken
prisoners. The battle ended at 4
pm on August 7, 1819.
