- Just what is The Family Wealth Resource? The Family Wealth Resource, or FWR, was founded in 1998 by Dr. Gary Buffone, as an outgrowth of his work as Director of the Family Business Center at the Byron Harless consulting firm. His experience became the basis for his popular book, CHOKING ON THE SILVER SPOON and a number of related publications that have been cited in over 60 national and international media outlets. The FWR was developed to provide highly specialized educational and consultative services to affluent families challenged by the difficult and often complex issues brought on by their own good fortune.
- Dr. Buffone’s work on money-psychology and family wealth issues has been recognized and cited in a number of national and international publications.
- Dr. Buffone has worked with hundreds of prosperous families all struggling to cope with the many issues tied to their own financial success. From helping parents deal with their unmotivated and entitled teenager, to assisting them in launching the reluctant young adult from the crowded nest, to the parents trying to make their best decisions in gifting their children in estate planning, FWR is there to help.
- Dr. Buffone has been joined by Dr. Steve Wise, who in addition to having worked with affluent families, also has a broad and deep experience in the world of business. Dr. Wise provides much of the direction and guidance for the recent expansion of the firm.
- We provide educational programs and materials to wealthy families and their professional advisors. We work closely with advisors in servicing their clients as well as expanding and marketing their own practices using the resources of FWR. We also provide case reviews and in some cases become involved in forensic work related to the psychological issues of wealth and families.
- As an outgrowth of our work with families, FWR has become more and more involved in working directly, often as one of the financial or legal services team, with a range of wealth advisors.
- FWR provides information and assistance directly to families that contact us. Memberships are available for individuals and families who express interest in having a more personalized contact with our firm.
- Advisors can join FWR as affiliate members at different levels. Affiliate members are provided with special access to password protected areas of our website which provide them and their clients with unrestricted access to a range of tests and checklists, books, articles, mini-advisories, our newsletter and other educational materials all related to different aspects of family money and family wealth. They also receive access to member-only marketing options to promote their client relationships and practice.
- One example of our marketing package is our Publication Partnering Program which allows the member to write the introduction to Dr. Buffone’s books and have their name, bio and firm information actually incorporated into the published volume. This can then be placed in their offices as well as be used as a mailer for selected clients or prospective clients. They receive consultation with our staff and will be provided the opportunity to also become involved in an upcoming continuing education programs and certification process that is currently being developed.

- FWR provides a range of special assessment tools for use by families as well as their advisors. Some assessment instruments are restricted for use by advisors only as they require some required training provided through our seminar series.
