Volume 22 Issue 1 SPRING 2016
Our 2016 Theme:
“Start a Fire”They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us
while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the
Scriptures?” - Luke 24:32
As Jesus opened up the scriptures to the two travelers on the road to
Emmaus, a fire began to burn within their hearts. Scripture tells that God’s
Word is “living and active.” It starts a fire in our hearts because it is where we
encounter Christ and are reminded of the love that he has shown us through
his life, death, and resurrection. It is our prayer, that the fire that was lit on the
day of our baptism may be rekindled in the hearts of all who visit Camp Luther.
May it burn so bright that others may see Christ in us!
Faith - Family - Friendship
Camp Luther Celebrates 70 Years!
It was an investment driven by a vision to provide a place
of ministry for children and families where they could be built
up and encouraged in their faith. Who could have imagined
the dividends that have been received thousands of times
over?
The Camp Luther property was purchased in 1946 for
$22,000. At a time when gas was just $.21 a gallon and a new
home would set you back $5150, this was a lot of money!
Despite the costs, the leaders of
the district and those serving on
the Young People’s Board would
not be detoured from their vi-
sion. They were determined to
provide a place of ministry where
children and families would be built up in the faith through Christian educational
experiences, relationships between campers and counselors, and the fellowship of
other believers all in the midst of God’s beautiful creation.
The vision began to become reality when on May 6, 1946, the North Wis-
consin District LCMS approved the purchase of land near Three Lakes, WI for a
camp ministry. They a found 91 acre parcel on the shores of Rangeline Lake. After
an inspection of the property, which included a lodge and a few cottages, boats,
and furnishings, they agreed to the purchase. The first two weeks of summer camp
were held that very summer!
Through God’s grace, Camp Luther touches the lives of thousands of chil-
dren, adults, and families each year with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We give
thanks for those who invested their time, energy, and resources to help make
Camp Luther a reality. May the Lord continue to bless this Christ-centered minis-
try for generations to come!

Volunteers of the Year!
Congratulations Dr. Rick and Ruth Steinke of Green
Bay, WI, the 2015 Camp Luther Volunteers of the
Year!
Rick and Ruth’s passion for the mission and ministry
of Camp Luther has been evident in their decades of
service to camp and the North Wisconsin District.
Rick and Ruth (Winter) both attended Camp Luther
briefly as children. Their interest grew as they served
on the Camp Luther summer staff in 1964-1966; Rick
as the summer Camp Director. They passed on their
passion for camp to their children Robin and Renae
who both served as Junior Counselors and summer
counselors in the 1990s; Robin also later on the
Camp Luther year-round staff.
In the early 1990s, Rick was elected to the North Wisconsin District Board of Fi-
nance. He served continually on district boards through 2011, always with a special
passion caring for the district’s camp.
In 1999-2001, Rick and Ruth served as chairs of the Entrusted with Treasure cam-
paign which raised approximately $2 million for the Camp Luther Retreat Center.
In addition, they served as planned giving counselors in the North Wisconsin Dis-
trict. Through their service, they have helped many families leave a gift to Camp
Luther and many other ministries in their estate planning.
In 2011, Rick accepted the role of chair of the new Camp Luther Board of Direc-
tors, formed as Camp Luther transitioned to a Subsidiary Ministry of the North
Wisconsin District. Rick was instrumental in the assembly of the new board and
working through the details of the governance arrangement with the district.
Thank you, Rick and Ruth, for displaying true servant leadership in serving the min-
istry of Camp Luther. You are true champions of the Camp Luther mission! May
the Lord continue to bless you in the many ways you serve your congregation,
community, and the church.
“Start a Fire”
A heart rekindled 1979
Like most 13 year old boys, I didn’t
want anything to do with church camp.
But my mom told me that my friend Mark
was going and that it would be fun. (I’m
sure Mark got the same line from his
mom.) Before I knew it, I was in the back
of wood-sided station wagon, on my way
to Three Lakes.
Like most 13 year old boys, I faced an uncertain future.
I was baptized and went to church and Sunday school faith-
fully, but my faith was challenged daily through school,
friends, and the world in which I lived. I teetered between a
life in the Christian faith and life outside of the church en-
tirely. Without some sort of intervention in my life, I am
certain I would have slowly, but surely, drifted away. Little did
I know, my week at Camp Luther was about to change my
life.
Three things impacted me tremendously that week
in 1979:
1. The community of staff and campers, always centered
around Jesus, was unlike any community I had ever ex-
perienced. I was amazed at the presence of the Holy
Spirit in the lives of the people around me. I would return
to camp to seek that community again and again.
2. The relationships I developed with fellow campers was
unlike any I had ever experienced. Never before had I
talked openly with others about my faith, my hopes, my
fears. Some of those campers are still dear friends today.
3. The young people that served as counselors and jcs that
week had a profound impact on me. The faith, joy, and
peace that they modeled in their lives inspired me to
want to be like them. The devo-
tions they shared and our conver-
sations in the Word drew me
closer to Jesus. I am so thankful
for counselors like “Beav” and
“Oly” who were incredible exam-
ples to me. It was at camp, that
week, that I felt called to serve in
the church.
A fire was rekindled in my heart that week. In fact, my
heart was burning within. I encountered Jesus in the people
of camp as they shared God’s Word and shared their lives
with me. I am forever grateful to my fellow campers and the
counselors of that summer. It’s amazing that all these years
later, the Lord continues to use Camp Luther to light a fire in
the hearts of young and old. Just this past month I heard from
a parent,
"You know how each child has their “thing”? Well… that
“thing” is Camp Luther, for (our daughter). It keeps the light in her
heart, burning bright."
Camp may be that thing the Lord uses to keep you or
your children’s light burning bright. Join us this summer and
see what happens to your faith at camp.
In Christ,
Gary “Woody” Vought

while he talked to us
on the road, while he
opened to us the

Zion Lutheran, Oneida’s
Unique & Generous Gift
In 2001, Camp Luther was blessed with an incredible
new Retreat Center, but also a mortgage on that facility of
nearly $1 million. Through the generous support of hundreds
of families and individuals, and events such as the annual
Camp Luther Golf Challenge, that debt was reduced to just
under $150,000 by 2015.
Now, a unique gift from Zion Lutheran Church in Oneida, WI is helping to
further reduce this Camp Luther mortgage. In May of 2015, Zion paid off the en-
tire remaining debt on the Retreat Center. And as a gift to Camp Luther they are
allowing Camp Luther to repay that load at zero percent interest over the next
three years!
Thank you, members of Zion, for this wonderful blessing. Your generosity
saves Camp Luther thousands of dollars in interest over the next three years.

Every Kid to Camp Celebrates 10 Years!
It began with a vision that every child in the North Wisconsin District should have the opportunity to go to
camp. District and camp leaders knew from decades of summer camp ministry that the Camp Luther experience has
a significant impact in the faith development of children fortunate enough to attend. A vision began to take shape.
What if, through the assistance of others who believe in the mission of Camp Luther, we could provide the opportu-
nity for hundreds of children to attend each summer at no cost to their family? Now 10 years later, through your
support and prayers, more than 2000 children have come to Camp Luther through Every Kid to Camp.!
The vision of Every Kid to Camp has grown as congregations and individuals have used the ministry to reach out
to those in their communities who don’t know Christ. Each year 300 children come to Camp Luther for the very first
time at no cost to their family. We are careful not to refer to Every Kid to Camp as ‘free.” It’s a gift of camp made
possible through the generous support of those who love children and value the mission of Camp Luther.
We invite you to support this important ministry through your prayers and gifts. Visit campluther.com/donate
to give to Every Kid to Camp. Or contact Shelly “Indigo” Karolus, Director of Donor Relations for information
about the “Lee Belmas Honorary Every Kid to Camp Endowment Fund.” Lee was instrumental in the development
of the Every Kid to Camp program and remains a champion of this ministry to children and their families.
Do you know a child who hasn't been to camp yet? You can help send that child to camp this summer. Simply
email info@campluther.com with child and parent’s names and contact information and we will send them an
Every Kid to Camp certificate. Let’s send 300 kids to camp this summer for the very first time!
The GiftAt age 13, what would you have done with $50? Here’s what one young lady did.
What an incredible example of Christian love for others in sharing the blessings of what
God gives us. What would you do with $50.00? “In all things I have shown you that by
working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words
of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than
to receive.’” (Acts 20:35)

Welcome
Janette Marien
A little over a year ago, my family took a leap
of faith that brought us to Eagle River as my
husband became the
Assistant Principal at
the High School, and is
now the Middle School
Principal. God
wrapped his arms
around us and showed
us how this is where
we belong. I have been
married since 1997 to
the most wonderful man, Dan; and we have
three wonderful boys, Harmon who has a
passion for Bass Fishing and Hockey, Gaige
who is full of adventure and loves hockey and
baseball, and Danny Jr who brings excitement
to every day.
Some days it seems like a dream, but then I
know it is all part of God's plan to be able to
live on a lake, close to the hockey rink and
be surrounded by so many people who really
enjoy life and treat others with so much love.
I played basketball through college, love to
fish, hike, play in the lakes and spend time
with family. My passion for veterans, seniors
and youth has brought me many opportuni-
ties and my love for the outdoors, nature,
and helping others makes me feel blessed
that I have become a part of the Camp Lu-
ther and Keweenaw Base Camp family.

A Time to Honor and Reunite...
We invite all former summer staff to re-connect with old friends, share stories, laugh and celebrate together in Christ at Camp! It’s our chance to
give thanks for you. Let us honor you for your call to serve the Lord, for your dedication and sacrifice, and for the love you shared with thousands of
children and families. Join us as we celebrate 70 Years of Summer Staff!
70th Anniversary Reunion Planning Committee
Did You Know??...
 More than1200 individuals
have served as summer staff
during the past 40 years!
 318 children attended sum-
mer camp in 1947. Camp

come from places as far
away as Norway and Zim-
babwe!

the week in 1949!
 The dorm was built in 1948
as the “girls dorm.” The

was $80 a week.

gram began in 1974.

SURROUNDED
Our reunion theme Surrounded, comes from
Hebrews 12: 1.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a
great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything
that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
And let us run with perseverance the race marked
out for us,”
Thank you to the hundreds of individuals who
impacted lives for Jesus while sharing their gifts
and talents as a Camp Luther summer staffer.
You have made Camp Luther what it is today!
May your service inspire and faith be an inspira-
tion to the next generation of servant leaders at
Camp Luther.
Where is Everyone Now??... Have you or someone you know worked at Camp Luther? Please help us get connected by visiting
www.campluther.com and clicking on the reunion photo to fill out a form. You can also call Camp and give us your information, 877.264.CAMP.

Thank you Mutt!
Thank you, Mike “Mutt” Rieck, for serving
as our Guest Services Director since 2004.
Cottagers, retreat leaders, and campers were
blessed though Mutt’s gift of hospitality that
showed in his care and concern for all who
visit camp. Mutt blessed the ministry of Camp
Luther through the relationship that he devel-
oped with guests and staff, his vision for minis-
try to families and children, and his servant’s
heart.
Thank you,
Mutt, for all that
you accomplished
for this ministry
during your time
at Camp Luther.
May the Lord
continue to bless
you as you serve
Him through your
life and work.
Welcome Kardia!Hello everyone, my name is Kardia! I’m a native Wisconsinite who grew up in a family that loved me and loved
Jesus and showed me what it looks like to follow Him. Regarding my choice of careers, my mom always tells me that
she’s happy I’ve found people to go on adventures with—it means she doesn’t have to!
I got my foot into the camp world in 2009, when I spent my summer working as a counselor at a camp up in the
Northwoods of Wisconsin that may sound a little bit familiar...it was called Camp Luther. That experience involved
pouring myself into the lives of kids of all ages and wondering (often) just what I had gotten myself into.
The year following my first summer at camp, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a de-
gree in Secondary Education, but I found myself increasingly drawn to the world of outdoor ministry. After spending a
second summer working as a counselor at Camp Luther, I plunged full-time into the world of camp and have never
looked back.
The past couple of years I have been working at a camp called HoneyRock, leading a summer adventure leadership
program for high school and college students, while earning my master's degree in Christian Formation and Ministry
through Wheaton College. I graduated this past May, and I'm incredibly excited to be back here at Camp Luther, where
I started this journey so many years ago.
What gets me excited about camp ministry are the glimpses it offers of life in the kingdom; of what it means to
grasp “how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” Camp has been utterly formational in my under-
standing of so much of what it means to follow Jesus; of what identity and community and grace look like in the light of
the love of Jesus Christ.
The heart of why I do what I do starts from the belief that God speaks to us in our brokenness. He calls to us with words that say: You are
mine. I have not forgotten. You are not forsaken. And you are so, so loved. For me, ministry is trying to be that voice to others.

Volume 22 Issue 1 SPRING 2016 Our 2016 Theme: “Start a Fire”They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” - Luke 24:32 As Jesus opened up the scriptures to the two travelers on the road to Emmaus, a fire began to burn within their hearts. Scripture tells that God’s Word is “living and active.” It starts a fire in our hearts because it is where we encounter Christ and are reminded of the love that he has shown us through his life, death, and resurrection. It is our prayer, that the fire that was lit on the day of our baptism may be rekindled in the hearts of all who visit Camp Luther. May it burn so bright that others may see Christ in us! Faith - Family - Friendship Camp Luther Celebrates 70 Years! It was an investment driven by a vision to provide a place of ministry for children and families where they could be built up and encouraged in their faith. Who could have imagined the dividends that have been received thousands of times over? The Camp Luther property was purchased in 1946 for $22,000. At a time when gas was just $.21 a gallon and a new home would set you back $5150, this was a lot of money! Despite the costs, the leaders of the district and those serving on the Young People’s Board would not be detoured from their vi- sion. They were determined to provide a place of ministry where children and families would be built up in the faith through Christian educational experiences, relationships between campers and counselors, and the fellowship of other believers all in the midst of God’s beautiful creation. The vision began to become reality when on May 6, 1946, the North Wis- consin District LCMS approved the purchase of land near Three Lakes, WI for a camp ministry. They a found 91 acre parcel on the shores of Rangeline Lake. After an inspection of the property, which included a lodge and a few cottages, boats, and furnishings, they agreed to the purchase. The first two weeks of summer camp were held that very summer! Through God’s grace, Camp Luther touches the lives of thousands of chil- dren, adults, and families each year with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We give thanks for those who invested their time, energy, and resources to help make Camp Luther a reality. May the Lord continue to bless this Christ-centered minis- try for generations to come! Members of the original Camp Committee (L-R): W.G. Roehl, Rev.. F.J. Werth, G. C. Loeber,Rev.. R.W. Goetsch, E. W. Bartig, Rev.. C. Thalacker. E.F. Moyer. Celebrate Camp Luther Sunday June 12, 2016 Join with congregations and people all over the North Wisconsin District and beyond in giving thanks to the Lord for blessings received through Camp Luther! Pastors and church leaders can look for a celebration prayer and other resources in their email. Please contact the Camp Luther office for more information.
  • 2. 2 Volunteers of the Year! Congratulations Dr. Rick and Ruth Steinke of Green Bay, WI, the 2015 Camp Luther Volunteers of the Year! Rick and Ruth’s passion for the mission and ministry of Camp Luther has been evident in their decades of service to camp and the North Wisconsin District. Rick and Ruth (Winter) both attended Camp Luther briefly as children. Their interest grew as they served on the Camp Luther summer staff in 1964-1966; Rick as the summer Camp Director. They passed on their passion for camp to their children Robin and Renae who both served as Junior Counselors and summer counselors in the 1990s; Robin also later on the Camp Luther year-round staff. In the early 1990s, Rick was elected to the North Wisconsin District Board of Fi- nance. He served continually on district boards through 2011, always with a special passion caring for the district’s camp. In 1999-2001, Rick and Ruth served as chairs of the Entrusted with Treasure cam- paign which raised approximately $2 million for the Camp Luther Retreat Center. In addition, they served as planned giving counselors in the North Wisconsin Dis- trict. Through their service, they have helped many families leave a gift to Camp Luther and many other ministries in their estate planning. In 2011, Rick accepted the role of chair of the new Camp Luther Board of Direc- tors, formed as Camp Luther transitioned to a Subsidiary Ministry of the North Wisconsin District. Rick was instrumental in the assembly of the new board and working through the details of the governance arrangement with the district. Thank you, Rick and Ruth, for displaying true servant leadership in serving the min- istry of Camp Luther. You are true champions of the Camp Luther mission! May the Lord continue to bless you in the many ways you serve your congregation, community, and the church. “Start a Fire” A heart rekindled 1979 Like most 13 year old boys, I didn’t want anything to do with church camp. But my mom told me that my friend Mark was going and that it would be fun. (I’m sure Mark got the same line from his mom.) Before I knew it, I was in the back of wood-sided station wagon, on my way to Three Lakes. Like most 13 year old boys, I faced an uncertain future. I was baptized and went to church and Sunday school faith- fully, but my faith was challenged daily through school, friends, and the world in which I lived. I teetered between a life in the Christian faith and life outside of the church en- tirely. Without some sort of intervention in my life, I am certain I would have slowly, but surely, drifted away. Little did I know, my week at Camp Luther was about to change my life. Three things impacted me tremendously that week in 1979: 1. The community of staff and campers, always centered around Jesus, was unlike any community I had ever ex- perienced. I was amazed at the presence of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the people around me. I would return to camp to seek that community again and again. 2. The relationships I developed with fellow campers was unlike any I had ever experienced. Never before had I talked openly with others about my faith, my hopes, my fears. Some of those campers are still dear friends today. 3. The young people that served as counselors and jcs that week had a profound impact on me. The faith, joy, and peace that they modeled in their lives inspired me to want to be like them. The devo- tions they shared and our conver- sations in the Word drew me closer to Jesus. I am so thankful for counselors like “Beav” and “Oly” who were incredible exam- ples to me. It was at camp, that week, that I felt called to serve in the church. A fire was rekindled in my heart that week. In fact, my heart was burning within. I encountered Jesus in the people of camp as they shared God’s Word and shared their lives with me. I am forever grateful to my fellow campers and the counselors of that summer. It’s amazing that all these years later, the Lord continues to use Camp Luther to light a fire in the hearts of young and old. Just this past month I heard from a parent, "You know how each child has their “thing”? Well… that “thing” is Camp Luther, for (our daughter). It keeps the light in her heart, burning bright." Camp may be that thing the Lord uses to keep you or your children’s light burning bright. Join us this summer and see what happens to your faith at camp. In Christ, Gary “Woody” Vought They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” Luke 24:32 Dr. Rick and Ruth Steinke Zion Lutheran, Oneida’s Unique & Generous Gift In 2001, Camp Luther was blessed with an incredible new Retreat Center, but also a mortgage on that facility of nearly $1 million. Through the generous support of hundreds of families and individuals, and events such as the annual Camp Luther Golf Challenge, that debt was reduced to just under $150,000 by 2015. Now, a unique gift from Zion Lutheran Church in Oneida, WI is helping to further reduce this Camp Luther mortgage. In May of 2015, Zion paid off the en- tire remaining debt on the Retreat Center. And as a gift to Camp Luther they are allowing Camp Luther to repay that load at zero percent interest over the next three years! Thank you, members of Zion, for this wonderful blessing. Your generosity saves Camp Luther thousands of dollars in interest over the next three years. 0%
  • 3. 3 Camp Luther Board of Directors We give thanks for the Camp Luther Board of Direc- tors. Thank you for your leadership and wisdom in guiding this ministry. Please remember the camp board in your prayers. Steven Edwards, Fremont, WI Terry Hanstedt, Pulaski, WI (Chair) Michael Hartman, Eau Claire, WI Paul Heinonen, Ishpeming, MI Michael Hunter, Antigo, WI Ken Longmire, Shawano, WI Chad Ott, Marquette, MI Ryan Paszek, Eau Claire, WI Amy Pflieger, Woodbury, MN Bruce Plautz, Plover, WI (NWD alternate) Dave Selmeyer, Antigo, WI (NWD) Carl Treankler, Atlantic Mine, MI Kris Wesser, Apple Valley, MN Every Kid to Camp Celebrates 10 Years! It began with a vision that every child in the North Wisconsin District should have the opportunity to go to camp. District and camp leaders knew from decades of summer camp ministry that the Camp Luther experience has a significant impact in the faith development of children fortunate enough to attend. A vision began to take shape. What if, through the assistance of others who believe in the mission of Camp Luther, we could provide the opportu- nity for hundreds of children to attend each summer at no cost to their family? Now 10 years later, through your support and prayers, more than 2000 children have come to Camp Luther through Every Kid to Camp.! The vision of Every Kid to Camp has grown as congregations and individuals have used the ministry to reach out to those in their communities who don’t know Christ. Each year 300 children come to Camp Luther for the very first time at no cost to their family. We are careful not to refer to Every Kid to Camp as ‘free.” It’s a gift of camp made possible through the generous support of those who love children and value the mission of Camp Luther. We invite you to support this important ministry through your prayers and gifts. Visit campluther.com/donate to give to Every Kid to Camp. Or contact Shelly “Indigo” Karolus, Director of Donor Relations for information about the “Lee Belmas Honorary Every Kid to Camp Endowment Fund.” Lee was instrumental in the development of the Every Kid to Camp program and remains a champion of this ministry to children and their families. Do you know a child who hasn't been to camp yet? You can help send that child to camp this summer. Simply email info@campluther.com with child and parent’s names and contact information and we will send them an Every Kid to Camp certificate. Let’s send 300 kids to camp this summer for the very first time! The GiftAt age 13, what would you have done with $50? Here’s what one young lady did. What an incredible example of Christian love for others in sharing the blessings of what God gives us. What would you do with $50.00? “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35) Shelly “Indigo” Karolus Director of Donor Relations Phone: 715-350-9421 Email: shelly@campluther.com 2017 Calendar ContestSubmit your photos for our 2017 calendar. Help us share the beauty, the fun, the peacefulness, the spiri- tual growth, and the people of Camp Luther and Ke- weenaw Base Camp. Deadline is April 15! We have changed our calendar timeline so all those who submitted photos for our 2016 calendar will be considered for our 2017 Calendar. But we still need more photos submitted, especially winter photos. Our 2017 Calendar will be available for sale in our canteen this summer. Visit our blog at cam- pluther.com for more information and keep taking photos for our next calendar!

Welcome Janette Marien A little over a year ago, my family took a leap of faith that brought us to Eagle River as my husband became the Assistant Principal at the High School, and is now the Middle School Principal. God wrapped his arms around us and showed us how this is where we belong. I have been married since 1997 to the most wonderful man, Dan; and we have three wonderful boys, Harmon who has a passion for Bass Fishing and Hockey, Gaige who is full of adventure and loves hockey and baseball, and Danny Jr who brings excitement to every day. Some days it seems like a dream, but then I know it is all part of God's plan to be able to live on a lake, close to the hockey rink and be surrounded by so many people who really enjoy life and treat others with so much love. I played basketball through college, love to fish, hike, play in the lakes and spend time with family. My passion for veterans, seniors and youth has brought me many opportuni- ties and my love for the outdoors, nature, and helping others makes me feel blessed that I have become a part of the Camp Lu- ther and Keweenaw Base Camp family. • 10. Thank you Mutt! Thank you, Mike “Mutt” Rieck, for serving as our Guest Services Director since 2004. Cottagers, retreat leaders, and campers were blessed though Mutt’s gift of hospitality that showed in his care and concern for all who visit camp. Mutt blessed the ministry of Camp Luther through the relationship that he devel- oped with guests and staff, his vision for minis- try to families and children, and his servant’s heart. Thank you, Mutt, for all that you accomplished for this ministry during your time at Camp Luther. May the Lord continue to bless you as you serve Him through your life and work. Welcome Kardia!Hello everyone, my name is Kardia! I’m a native Wisconsinite who grew up in a family that loved me and loved Jesus and showed me what it looks like to follow Him. Regarding my choice of careers, my mom always tells me that she’s happy I’ve found people to go on adventures with—it means she doesn’t have to! I got my foot into the camp world in 2009, when I spent my summer working as a counselor at a camp up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin that may sound a little bit familiar...it was called Camp Luther. That experience involved pouring myself into the lives of kids of all ages and wondering (often) just what I had gotten myself into. The year following my first summer at camp, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a de- gree in Secondary Education, but I found myself increasingly drawn to the world of outdoor ministry. After spending a second summer working as a counselor at Camp Luther, I plunged full-time into the world of camp and have never looked back. The past couple of years I have been working at a camp called HoneyRock, leading a summer adventure leadership program for high school and college students, while earning my master's degree in Christian Formation and Ministry through Wheaton College. I graduated this past May, and I'm incredibly excited to be back here at Camp Luther, where I started this journey so many years ago. What gets me excited about camp ministry are the glimpses it offers of life in the kingdom; of what it means to grasp “how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” Camp has been utterly formational in my under- standing of so much of what it means to follow Jesus; of what identity and community and grace look like in the light of the love of Jesus Christ. The heart of why I do what I do starts from the belief that God speaks to us in our brokenness. He calls to us with words that say: You are mine. I have not forgotten. You are not forsaken. And you are so, so loved. For me, ministry is trying to be that voice to others. beemer@campluther.com dodger@campluther.com shelly@campluther.com kardia@campluther.com chris@campluther.com rescue@campluther.com ren@campluther.com janette@campluther.com tlc@campluther.com maryann@campluther.com woody@campluther.com Ext. 222 Ext. 224 Ext. 238 Ext. 222 Ext. 225 Ext. 231 Ext. 229 715-891-4064 Ext. 228 Ext. 221 Ext. 223 “Beemer”- Blaine Welch, Director of Guest Services “Dodger” - Roger Michelson, Executive Director “Indigo” - Shelly Karolus, Director of Donor Relations “Kardia”- Beth Lutz, Program Director “Reader”- Chris Frank, Office & Acct.
