2. Introduction-
• Soil electrical conductivity (EC) is a measure of the amount of salts in soil
(salinity of soil)
• It is an important indicator of soil health.
• It affects crop yields, crop suitability, plant nutrient availability, and
activity of soil microorganisms
•Excess salts hinder plant growth by affecting the soil-water balance.
•Texture-
• Sand- Low EC
• Slit- Medium EC
• Clay – High EC
•UNIT- SI - ms/m (milisimens per metrer)
or ds/m (Decisimens per metre)

4. Procedure -
1. 10 gm of soil sample is weighted and transferred to 100 ml a beaker.
2. 25 ml of water added and stirred about 30 minute. (1:2.5)
3. The beaker containing the soil kept under electrode assembly and
measured the EC.

pH= 4
pH = 7
pH= 9.2
