The document discusses how the Liberal government in Canada plans to make immigration easier. It states that Justin Trudeau's Liberal party won a minority government, showing that Canadians trust them on issues like immigration. The government aims to increase annual immigration and refugee numbers by about 100,000, to around 400,000 total. New guidelines for immigration officers and judges are proposed to make it easier for claimants to have their claims accepted. The changes would give applicants the benefit of the doubt and consider factors like trauma, potentially allowing almost all claims to be approved. This could increase annual immigration numbers to 400,000 "almost overnight."
How liberals will make Canadian immigration easier?
1. How liberals will make Canadian immigration easier
If the Canadian federal elections were to be summed up in a sentence it could be said that leader Justin
Trudeau has won enough votes in order to constitute a minority government thus proving that people
trust the liberals with their life and times in Canada. The question is what is it that can be expected from
liberals in order to ascertain if they are supportive of immigration.
Well, its good news for every immigrant and immigration aspirant! One of the goals of the Trudeau
government has been to increase the number of immigrants and refugees in Canada by a one-third that
makes it an approx 400,000 annually.
An internal draft of the same has been introduced and documented in order to implement policies of
immigration on the same. Richard Wex, the Liberals’ appointee as chairperson and chief executive
officer of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada has laid out a plan for the massive expansion in
terms of the reasons that allow an immigrant to leave or stay in Canada.
Moreover, this draft also consists of guidelines that instruct civil service officers who do an initial
screening of refugee and immigration claims and the refugee judges who hear appeals of the officer’s
decisions are instructed to accept any applicant having an ‘intersectional’ claim. What is an
intersectional claim? It is defined as two or more of “race, religion, indigeneity, political beliefs,
socioeconomic status, age, sexual orientation, culture, disability, or immigration status,” that “impact an
individual’s lived experience of discrimination, marginalization or oppression.” While this clause saves
refugees from having to justify their claims and instead only have to mention how have they been
discriminated against. The only principal duty is on the judges and officers to ascertain whether or not
the claimant is telling the truth.
The Trudeau government has drafted a guiding principal making this task easier for judges and officers
as well. Like giving a benefit of doubt unless there is solid proof that the claimant is lying, to take aspects
of trauma into consideration and many more highlighting rationality. Trauma in this context is defined as
“intense feelings of fear, terror, helplessness, hopelessness, and despair” that is perceived “as a threat
to the person’s survival.”
Claimants wait for an average of 2 years in order for their claims to be decided upon in the meantime of
which their housing, medicine and health, food and internet like facilities are paid for by tax payers in
Canada. Once judges are supposed to allow every claim, the lawyers of these claimants will try to co-
relate their claims alongside trauma like situations thus rendering it impossible that a judgement arises
against the claim.
Thus, if this approach is taken, 300,000 or so immigrants a year will turn into 400,000 almost overnight!
What is to be seen now is how an already welcoming Canada will get rid of any gates barring immigrants
and refugees from entering the country, which it has already begun by getting rid of principal rules.
