Thai Horror Movie
I don’t really watch horror movie, due to the reason I scare. So I chose Pee Mak directed by
Banjong Pisanthanakun and Phobia 2 directed by 5 directors include Paween Purijitpanya, Visute
Poolvoralaks, Songyos Sugmakanan, Parkpoom Wongpoom and Banjong Pisanthanakun.
Pee Mak is a story about Mak and his death wife Nak. The story begin with Nak is going to give
birth of her children with Mak, but with nobody help. Meanwhile his husband is in the war, and
they almost killed in the war. But he manage to get back to his home due to his fortitude. After
sometime, the villagers heard Nak is singing lullabies to her baby and all of them afraid and start
to make rumor that she is dead due to hard give birth and haunted the house.
However, after the war, Mak bring along his friends (Ter, Puak, Shin, Aey) in the war to his
home. When Nak reach there, he manage to gather with his wife and son happily and he also
invited his friend to stay in his aunt’s house nearby. The next day, when they heading to the
market to buy some foods, all the vendors scared and not willing to sell them the stuff and hide.
His friends feel so weird and so do him. After that, he heard a rumor about his wife is dead from
an owner of liquor store but stopped by her nephew.
During that night, Mak’s friends having a drink outside his aunt’s house, others ask Shin to get
Mak over here and drink together due to the reason he is the only one that did not drunk. As he
reach Mak’s house, he realize that the house look like being discarded for a long time and he feel
scare and want to get back to his friends, he found our Nak’s hand stretching to an unbelievable
length and pick up a lime she dropped. Shin quickly get back to his friends and tell them what he
saw but they seem like don’t believe in him. Meanwhile, nobody realize that the liquor store
owner bodies nearby there.
The next day, as Shin broke the staircase of Mak’s house, they rebuild it together. Ter suddenly
feel stomachache and want to go to have a release time. As he releasing, he found a corpse
wearing a wedding ring same as Nak’s finger. He quickly ran back and told them, meanwhile he
get stung and can’t deliver it well and he wrote on a paper. Mak saw the paper and
misunderstood the meaning of it. Aey and Puak started to believe what Shin and Ter said but
none of them have the courage to bend down and look between leg to confirm Nak is a ghost.

2. They try to tell Mak but he doesn’t want to believe them and invite them to have dinner together
as Nak made the dishes. The dishes is actually made of dry leaves and worms and Mak keep
encourage them to eat, meanwhile to prevent Nak from hurting them and Mak they pretend they
like the dishes and eat it. When they try to tell Mak the truth, Mak misunderstood again, he
thought they want to play the game (guess word) as they always played before. During the game,
they accidentally mention that Nak is a ghost as they believe what the villagers said and Mak
very angry about that and want to kick them away. No matter what, they decided to save Mak
from his wife.
After that, Mak and his wife went out for a festival celebrate. On their way, his wife was wearing
a ghost mask to prevent people to recognize her. As he is playing the shoot gun to shoot the
down the bottle, he can’t manage to shoot it down and his wife remove his attention and swipe
down the bottle by her long arm. After that, his wife want to play car expo but there are a lot of
people lining up, his wife ask him to look other side again and want to expel the people from
lining up. When Mak look back again, he realizes all people gone.
After that, Mak want to go into a haunted house but actually he scared of ghost. In the haunted
house, his friends show up and want to try to “save” him. However, Nak realize that but they
manage to get away from Nak. During their way, they keep having argument and even
questioning that Mak whether he is a ghost or not. They throw the “rice” toward Mak and Mak
scream (actually the rice hit Mak wound so he screams in pain), they quickly run and get Nak
together and run away.
On the boat, they tell Nak that Mak is a ghost and want to bring Nak away. Nak knows the truth
and keep asking them where is Mak. Furthermore, the boat is sinking when they arguing, they
throw away the luggage to decrease the weight, but they failed. Nak ask them to throw away the
paddle and they do it, however, Mak reaches them and walk across the water to chase them, but
Mak get drown as his leg muscle cramp, they just realize that Mak is not a ghost. After that, Aey
drop out the wedding ring of Nak and they thought Aey is a ghost and kick him off the boat. As
they thrown away the paddle, they didn’t manage to get away quickly, Nak quickly give Ter a
paddle (the paddle already far from them). Ter realizes something and want to confirm that so he
look between his leg and found out Nak is a ghost. They quickly get away from the boat and run
to a master.
In the temple, they try to protect themselves from being near to Nak. However, Mak finally come
out and say that, he actually knew Nak is a ghost long time ago as he saw her between his legs.
Four of them say that non-living thing can’t live together with human, but after that Mak reveal
that he wants to continue stay with Nak because he afraid to live without her more than of her
ghostly form. After that, Shin, Puak, Aey and Ter say that they will not leave each other although
they became ghost. After that, they together help the villagers and nobody feel scare already.

3. Phobia 2 is a movie that combines five short stories by different directors. The first story is
Novice directed by Paween Purijitpanya. This story is about a boy name Pey that always like to
throw stone to the car coming. One day, he accidentally throws the stone to a car and the driver
is his father. To prevent being found, his mother brings him to a temple in a forest. He miss the
ceremony of feeding hungry ghost but the master told him the whole story. On that night, he
feels hungry and he goes out to find something to eat although the precept prohibits monks from
eating at night. He walks toward the place where the ceremony held and eats the food for the
ghost, but he get caught by his preceptor and bring him back. The next day, some of the monks
found out that there will be new ghost. Pey cannot bear the strict precepts any longer, and he also
saw the ghost. He decided to runaway. During the way, his preceptor stop him and bring him to a
cave where for people to stay calm and remorse himself. In the night, Pey cannot bear anymore,
he try to escape again but when he walking in the forest, he feels something following him and
throw rock toward the place, then the rocks being thrown back and hit his face until his face
become bloody. He tries to call his mother but fail and he became the new ghost.
The second story is ward by director Visute Poolvoralaks. Arthit, a teenager broke his leg in an
accident. He is required to stay in the hospital. He requested a single room but the nurse said the
ward he stay is just like a single person ward as the bed on his right broke and the old man on his
left almost died just wait for his family to meet him for the last time. In the night, Arthit found
something strange happened, the food for the old man gone. He unable to get help from the nurse
to move him to another room, the nurse forcibly put him to sleep through injection. When the
night almost come to the end, Arthit awakened by the old man walking on his chest and attack
him and vomits blood into his mouth. The next morning, the plug for the old man been unplug
and remove him. Arthit also being discharged by a nurse. Arthit is leaving with the accompany
of the old man’s family and students. This shows that the old man manage to transfer his soul
into the body of Arthit with the help of the hospital stuff.
The third story Backpacker by director Songyos Sugmakanan. There are two Japanese travelers
in Thailand want to find a car to pick them up. The Japanese boy waves his hand with money
toward a truck and the diver stops to pick them up. Before they get into the truck, the driver asks
for more money. The other people in the truck name Joi asks him not to pick up anyone, but the
driver ignore. During the way, a phone call comes and the driver gets annoyed after listen it. The
travelers realize something happen and straight away a noise came from the behind of the truck.
The driver drive to another way and wanted to check the truck. The driver wants to warn them
not to get out from the truck by pointing gun toward them. When the driver open the cargo, they
surprise the truck full with dead bodies and a flashback show that the two men are drug runner
and they want to transport drug by letting people swallow buns of drugs and tried to keep them
alive but fail. The Japanese boy grabs the gun from the driver and pointing toward them. The
dead bodies behind him turn alive and kill him. The driver quickly gets into the truck and
runaway, another man and the Japanese girl also run and chase the truck. The truck eventually

4. crashes down and the zombies kill the driver. A little boy looks at the Japanese girl with innocent
eyes and she tries to protect him by killing Joi. After that, she drives the car that crashed with the
little boy. During the wait for the train to cross over, the little boy turns to zombie and kills the
girl and he runs toward the village.
The forth story is Salvage directed by Parkpoom Wongpoom. This story is about Nuch a car
seller. She sells the car that crashed in accident and rebuilt them into new looking good condition
car. One night in the garage, his son, Toey is missing. She tries to look for him in the CCTV but
fail. Then, she decided to check up in the garage by herself. As she get into the garage a
continuous horror thing happen. The soul of the dead people from the car shown up and scare her.
However, she manages to get away with one car. As she driving, she heard some weird sound
from the car’s engine and the engine dies afterward. She get down from the car and want to
check the bonnet. When she opens the bonnet, she found that her son is inside the engine with
bloody look as he is being squeezed in the engine.
The last story is In The End directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun. In this story, Ter, Puak, Shin
and Aey are the movie crew for the new horror movie name “Alone” that starred by Marsha
(lead character) and Kate (as ghost) who is sick. While they want to shoot the scene where Kate
climbing out from dark, as they waiting, Kate didn’t come up. When they switch on the light,
they saw Kate laying on the floor and Aey quickly bring Kate to hospital. In the hospital, the
doctor told Aey “the patient has died”. The film team think that Kate will not be able to join so
they decided to change the ending part. However, all of the lights off in the studio and Kate back
to the studio. Ter, Puak and Shin who also want to leave the studio because they thought Kate
was a ghost, and leaving Marsha behind. When they want to go, they saw Aey standing alone on
the road and take him up. When they saw the car of Aey crashed along the road, they eventually
thought that Aey is a ghost and get off the car. Aey told them that he is still alive, the accident
happened when he left the car. Kate appears afterward. They all scared and get back to the car
again. However, Kate explains to them that there are twin doctor in the hospital, the doctor that
Aey meet is actually another doctor. After they clear with all the incident, they want to bring
Kate to hospital. Here come Marsha driving with sleepy mode and crashes all of them.
I type the storyline according to the flow from Wikipedia but with my own words and I make
some of the story shorter and some more detail. Thai horror movie mostly based on true story
just like Pee Mak (adapted from the story Nang Nak). Although Pee Mak is adapted from Nang
Nak but the story flows differently. Thai Horror movie is also having a lot of moral values. In
Phobia 2, every story is telling that what you have done, you will deserve it. The first story of
Phobia 2, the boy actually gets his pay back as he killed his father and didn’t feel sad or remorse.
The forth story in Phobia 2 – Salvage. The woman that sells the crashed car with no fear, this
show that she does not have respect toward the dead people in the accident and she deserved
with the dead of his son in the car. Most of the Thai Horror story will have related with other

5. thing, such as relationship problem, family problem, self problem. It not only wants to scare
people, the director wants to bring out the message through different way. Actually the movie
not that scary just the make-up of the actors are really strong and the facial expression of the
actors are really nice that can make audiences feel it.
Some of the Thai horror movie also bring out in a comedy way just like Pee Mak and the last
story of Phobia 2 – In The End. The same director for both of the story also shoot the movie in a
comedy way. This will make audiences feel funny more than scary and also will gain some
motivation through the movie. Banjong Pisanthanakun is a very young director and use comedy
way to make horror movie.
As a conclusion, I found that, Thai Horror movie is not that scary for some. As I watched some
very scary before, I feel like there are also some not scary. The story of Thai Horror movie is
very good and some very touching. I learned some moral values through watching Thai Horror
movie.
