7. Trust the Young Ones Those with Doctorates don’t always know best. Dr. Smith has years of “life experience” over Will – but with that generation gap – Will brought a certain naivety that allowed him to take risks and apply his knowledge of technology as he saw fit.
8. Have Just Enough Attitude If you know your stuff, you know your stuff. Just don’t be a dick. Even though Mr. Robinson and Major West are spitting images of what 1960’s “authority figures” were, they took the time to assess situations, gave praise where it needed to be given and handled conversations with “lesser folk” in a genuine way.
9. Communicate Ditch the mumbo jumbo and get to the point. Believe it or not, co-workers and clients are people too – not an object that needs to be put on a pedestal or someone who is inferior or superior to you. If the Robinsons can communicate with these guys, you can handle your own species.
10. Traditional Tools Technology may seem scary but traditional thinking need apply. Don’t fool yourself in to thinking you don’t know what’s going on. Technology just enhances current processes or provides alternative means of doing something, “traditional thinking” still applies. On that note, don’t rely on just the technology to solve your problems. It won’t. You still need people dedicated to making it efficient.
11. Be Creative You’ve had creativity in your blood since kindergarten. Being stuck in space didn’t hinder the crew of Jupiter 2’s spirit. They dealt with a huge obstacle. They were freaking lost in space. Even with this burden, they found the time to tap in to their creative side. Day-to-day tasks are time consuming and need to get done, but getting bogged down by it is totally on your shoulders. Totes on your shoulders.
